Let's all give pocky to Brok3n Rhythm for a great Bleach review!

Mod note: This review seemed very complete, and the writer obviously went to great lengths to detail this review. However, I could find very few sources who talked much about content issues in Bleach, and therefore I couldn't do as much double checking as I generally like. All the threads on CAA which talked about Bleach objectionable content seemed to line up with the reivew, and, for this reason, I believe this review to be complete and thorough. However if those of you who've seen the show feel something should be added, please PM me!
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

Just to make this thread seem more conclusive, I'll chime in to say that I've seen the entire Bleach anime so far and that the review addresses it pretty well. However, I do have some issues.

First, I don't think the Violence rating deserves a nine. It is nowhere near as violent or gruesome as a great many anime I have seen. There is only a great deal of blood, no gore or lost limbs.

Second, the issue of sexual content / nudity doesn't mention Isshin's issue with his daughters and should probably mention Yoruichi after she transforms back into a human.

Lastly (and most importantly) the Religious Material section contains a huge spoiler that would ruin the greatest plot moment of the series for a viewer. It is the mention of a specific character's name.

Also, I would like to clarify about his line. It probably isn't the best translation to say "God" as he uses "kami" and there is further context to consider (some of which hasn't appeared in the anime yet). What the character means is that there is no one powerful enough to rule over everyone.

But all of this aside, decent review. I'd like to hear from the review author first, but then I'll remove the spoiler quickly.

I placed a large "SPOILER!" warning before what I believe is the spoiler UC is referring to.

I too agree that 9 is way too high. There are only cuts on the shoulders, arms, hands, legs, the occasional torso. And some blood splatter. I would put it around a 7.

Quick note: I think the nudity section should probably mention that in episode 17 ichigo is portaryed (wow butchered spelling) Completly nude but with not details what so ever.

EDIT: Ok so in the Fansubb i watched the f-word just poped up so that might need a mention and plus i think it might need more than a 2 on language anyways (IMHO)

Grubb, sometimes the fansubs are a bit "colorful" with the language. For example, the fansubbed version of Azumanga Daioh had an F-Bomb in the first episode. But the "official" version ADV did uses nicer words.

yeah. well, i believe that it would be good if the author simply stated that the language really depends on the fan subs. the ones who subbed my episodes kept the language quite on the clean side.

one of the more popular subs Dattebayo does use some f***s (it seems to be more frequent now) and many episodes have s***. i think the sexual content needs at least a 3.

You can see her back, and when shes talking you can see what you would see if someone was wearing a tube top. There is no frontal nudity or below the lower back. There's no more then three times that there is implied nudity, it might even be twice, it doesn't happen often.

Does Bleach really deserve a 15+ rating? I'd put at least 14, maybe even 13. Please PM me on this subject if you don't aggree with me, because I am at an early stage of the series. Thanks. :thumb:

Just to clarify: are you asking the rating in the review to be lowered, or asking if the series is alright for you? How early in the series are you? If you're at the point of your avatar, you've already seen pretty much everything it has to offer in the way of offensive content.

I'm up to vol. 7 of the manga. Also, I am asking for the rating to be lowered, if it's possible.

I ended up reading that later the same evening, actually. At volume 7 there are some elements that haven't been introduced that are going to change things, but there are only a few things to come that could be potentially offensive (more so than what you've already seen, I mean).

As for the rating being lowered, that is indeed possible. If the review author will agree or at least give their rationale, the change can be made. We don't make changes at random, but I think this one is arguable and it takes little effort to actually do it.

Is it just me or does the Grave Fisher remind you of a deep sea angler?

it would be best to PM the author of the review if you want the age to be changed. and you shouldn't really...demand these kinds of things. if your dad won't let you watch it, then respect his decision.
