CA's Art

Postby CreatureArt » Tue Jan 18, 2005 2:08 am

Due to excessive prodding (grins at That Dude) I have created a thread for my art.

At the mo it's mostly linework from my new sketchbook. Usually my style's a lot more sketchy and way less clean than this - I'm experimenting with some excellent calligraphy pens I was given.

I'll try to add some of my old sig banners (sentimentality's sake) and the Surrealist paintings when I get them back (part of last year's art exam).

So... here we go. Bear with me. I've uploaded the smallest and linked to the others. (click the name for the link)

Gazza
My cartoon character, Gazza. Anthro griffin.

Tcalix
Another character, Tcalix. (there's a kind of weird interesting story for how I got the name...)

Cover Sketch
Cover image for my sketchbook. Too afraid to colour ;)

Lastly there's a racoon sketch

I'm glad you were prodded into sharing your work! ß-) Nicely done! I like the different attitudes of Gazza and Tcalix - I think Gazza is my fav. The racoon is mucho nice, especially the way the fur is drawn. Keep it up!

I really like what you've posted so far! I find it very inspiring. Your characters have a very cool, yet humorous look to them. Also, your racoon sketch is very nicely done. I would love to see more *prods*

Ahh... all right, you know I can't resist the prods ;) .

Thanks, everyone!

The two characters I created a long while back (I'll try to post some of the original pictures sometime so you can laugh at them with me  - they're a whole heap different now, but the faces have stayed very similar. I don't know if it's clear - but I've also put a cross around Tcal's neck and the fish around Gazza's. I guess the reason for this is because my friends, etc. often glance through my sketch book and it would be neat to have a conversation starter and to kind of subtly involve Christ in my pictures.

Thanks, Anonymous - I love cartoons. My earliest influences were pok'emon fan art (*shivers*) which I'd do a refill sheet of in order to sell to little kids on the bus (fee= a 5c lolly or two). Feel free to snicker with me ;) . Otherwise, I've recently been inspired by a comic compilation I found in the library called 'Hero Bear and the Kid.' It's a whole lot better than it sounds, the guy has excellent drawing skills and conveys emotion amazingly. He's also a Christian :) .

Yep, I'm hoping to make some sort of a comic with the characters, though I'm not sure what or when yet. I could do some three-panels for practice, though - I might try to start off on that. Thanks, Talame!

Thanks, Jazz! Yeah I love cute stuff. Probably one of my fav pics so far is the one of Tcal hugging the electric guitar.

And thanks to you again Syreth. I will submit to the prod. ;)

Heh. So you finally gave in to the darkside. Mwahaha!! Thanks for posting some of your stuff. The Racoon is excellent. I like the crying chibi of Tcalix. "Prods" paintings as soon as available! I'd love to see more of your realistic stuff.

Thanks, Esoteric! *Joins him and Talame in sitting down* ... I'll try and draw some more tonight to post. :) . I love cuteness, too. I'm not so good at realistic people or buildings, though. Some backgrounds I am all right at (sky, sea, sunsets, stars) but I find it difficult to do more detailed trees, etc. One thing I always find difficult is aeroplanes and cars -_-' . I am a technology challenged artist.

Yes, you should flee from the NZ wrath, Talame! Do you know how difficult sheep are to draw? All those curls... ;) . Wel, maybe there'll be a sheep someday...

 yes, I feel strange being impatient for school to start... but it's simply because of getting those paintings back. It's crazy how much time I spent into them, because I'm not that used to paint. One of them is possibly over 6 hours all up, just in blending and such. The rest are probably all more than 4 hours each, especially the big ones. Kind of blows my mind. @_@ . Luckily I didn't do them in one sitting.

Thanks again for all your kind comments!

I'M YOUR SISTER! I'm supposed to know these things! Image ;)

Image Sic 'em, Sheepy!
Heh heh, with my own personal guard sheep *the sheep woofs* to keep a watch out for NZ based insults, NO ONE WILL HASSLE THE NZ MUTTON INDUSTRY!!!!! ;) (insert evil laughter and lightning here).
*pets sheep* *sheep's red eyes slide menacingly over to glare at Photoshoph*
Eek! No! I didn't say anything about mutton! I said muttin' at all! (ba-da-boom, ching!)
*flees from crazy guard sheep*

*falls over* erm... I think I'm off topic. Ah well..... nice work sis! Keep up the excellent drawing!

Cat fight!!!
There are heaps of sheep in Australia too, so I don't see the big deal.
There are also lots of cows. Do you get ibis in New Zealand? They're pretty cool birds.
Awesome art CreatureArt! Very original!

Talame, do you remember the Grug books from early primary school? They were so addictive and uniquely Australian (after all he was a sphinifex grass come to life!!)

Here's a pic (for some reason CreatureArt's art sometimes reminds me of him)

Of course I remember grug! Who wouldn't?! I had his book about the rainbow ;)

Lol, that's the beauty of it. In reality, we have more sheep per person than NZ does, but its because NZ is such a small country (hence the sheep are everywhere ;) ) that we rip them off about it ;) :P

Actually, I've heard we have more cows than sheep. :wow!:

I looked at the cover of Grug and I'm.. confused. :?:

Hai! - We're twins. *points to avatar caption* . But.. she draws better sheep. Among other things

Thanks. I'll try to get some up - but it looks like I have a busy next couple of days (barely managed to get on CAA today) and then school starts. Still, I will try. :) It'll be so fun to do a comic. I've already drafted a couple of rough thumbnails... :)

Thanks again, and God bless you all.

 - no worries about abducting the thread, Warrior. It's a good way to stall while I try to find the time to do a couple more drawings. (*Working on some manga-ish style people and colouring some linework*) .

I love the little lion gif on your signature, Soph. It's so kawaii!

Ooo... alliteration. The eyes are left blank both because I'm afraid to add detail with an ink pen (it's a small A5 page..) and because I find it easier to computer colour them that way. :) . I think I got better as I went along...

Hopefully if I finish tonight I'll put up another picture - the coloured version of chibi Tcalix with guitar in the opening post. :thumb:

Thanks for all your encouragement, everyone!
