Hm, that's a hard one. I have lots of anime characters I consider heroes in different respects. I automatically think of Fai, because of the extreme childhood trauma he went through and sacrifices he made for his comrades. I feel like his overcoming the hurdles he did was heroic, although he was basically a coward.
Then there's Kirito, who's basically the picture of heroism in his show, even though he started out selfish and solitary. I loved his determination and willpower.
And Natsu, who although he's dense and out of control, has that intense protective nature and an awesome attitude of emulation.
There's more, but I won't bore you. I think I'd have to go with Fai, because I feel like I can relate to his attitude, and I love seeing him hurdle his own personal issues.
He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God? -Micah 6:8 KJV
They have shewed thee, O teen, what is good; and what doth the world require of thee, but to fit in, be wealthy, have good looks, and be rebellious? -Peer Pressure 1:1
"I hate milk; it's like drinking vomit." -Edward Elric and me.
