*looking over some of the challenges I still have to meet* Phew, some of these are gonna be impossible. >.<

Hmm, I wonder if playing 300% brawls counts towards the KO challenge? I would think so, but I don't wanna waste all that time if it doesn't. :/

I've been playing around with Olimar more lately, and he's actually a really cool character, but he's difficult as heck to get the hang of. You really have to know which pikmin is next in your line, because the purple ones do more damage, and are better to use with his smash attacks, and the yellow or white ones fly farther and are more effective with his side B.

Yeah, some of the challenges are rough. Gold hammers are your friend. XD

The only ones I think are really going to be difficult to do are of course the Boss Battles on the higher difficulties, and beating 100-Man Melee with all characters isn't going to be easy either. Some of the timed target smash challenges are probably going to be a pain too. Beating All-Star/Classic with all characters isn't hard, just time-consuming. Beating All-Star and Classic on Insane difficulty isn't hard either (because you can use continues).

Anyway I have all of the music tracks except one...the "Brawl for 50 hours" one. I know I have them all because I was using the CD Factory stage last night and nabbed three CDs in it, but only got one song after I finished.

Is there any way to get golden hammers other than the 3 you start out with? I haven't used any yet since I'm saving them for the challenges that I really can't complete.

On a side note, it's easy to spend way too much time playing the coin launcher. There's something insanely satisfying about blasting trophies to add them to your collection. :3

Speaking of which, while browsing through my trophy gallery, I really noticed how much of an improvement the graphics are in this game compared to Melee. I've heard people say that it doesn't look much better than Melee, and when you're brawling it is less noticeable, true, but some of those trophies... man, they're freakin' detailed. Of course some of them can't be too detailed because whatever they're based off of is low res, but there's some trophies, like the halberd, that really impressed me. Also, if you find the lump of clay (I think that's what it was called) trophy from Magical Starsign, you should really take a close look at that one. For being a lump of clay it's incredibly good-looking. When you move the angle around you can even see that weird reflected light shine that only clay has. Very cool.

You start out with three hammers? Gulp. My sister got to the challenge screen before I did, and used all of the starting hammers. I thought it was just one, though. To answer your question, you earn more hammers by completing specific challenges. I am not sure which ones, but I have gotten two so far.

On a brighter note, I just beat all of the break the target time challenges. Here are my times with Falco (Falco = King of BTT).

Level 1: 8.63 seconds
Level 2: 12.66 seconds
Level 3: 19.15 seconds
Level 4: 31.26 seconds (31.20 seconds with pit)
Level 5: 25.65 seconds

I must say, level 5 was the hardest, but most rewarding by far. Anybody else beat these challenges? What were your times/characters?

I finished all those as well. I did most of mine with Sonic, but I did Level 1 with Pit. I really should've done it with another character though.

I also finished BTT Levels 1-4 with all characters, and after I finish Level 5, I'll be done with the BTT challenges.

I'm almost totally finished with the challenge board. I've got to beat Boss Battles on Intense and finish it with all characters, kill 10 characters in Cruel Brawl (so close! I managed to get 8 kills with Kirby), some of the Brawl-time ones, and just a few others.

BTW, I think I've gotten every CD except for the one you unlock with the 50 hours requirement. The music in this game is awesome. I've actually got the entire soundtrack downloaded on my computer.

You don't start out with three hammers. You earn hammers from completing specific challenges. Challenges that earn you a gold hammer are:

Beat Classic on Normal (also gets you the Ice Climbers Melee CD)
Have Ike join you in SSE (also gets you Ike's Theme CD)
Play 30 hours of Brawls (also gets you the Timer trophy)
Beat SSE (also gets you the Ancient Minister trophy)
Score 500 total KOs in Brawls (also gets you the Party Ball trophy)

Now, speaking of Golden Hammers, the makers of Brawl are MEAN. You can't use Golden Hammers on the Boss Battles challenges. BOOOO.

So knowing that, I'm probably going to use a Golden Hammer on the "Beat 100 Man Melee with every character" square. That's just too time-consuming. :\ Maybe on the "Get all stickers" one too.

OH! I finally earned Isaac as an assist trophy, which is awesome. For those who don't know you have to play 200 brawls to get Isaac. You have to play 300 to get the Advance Wars assist trophy...ugh, 100 more to go I guess. XD I'm interested to know what Isaac's voice sounds like, but I can't figure it out from going through the sound test...

Also. Freaking Calling to the Night. I'm very tempted to turn off every other song on Shadow Moses Island so that this one will always play. XD It's so slow and beautiful yet somehow it just works perfectly for beating the crap out of people.

EDITS LOL
I've heard people say that it doesn't look much better than Melee, and when you're brawling it is less noticeable, true

Gamespy said this stupid crap too (of course Gamespy says Donkey Kong Country is one of the most overrated games of all time, so they're automatically morons...)

Oh and before I get misunderstood, I know YOU'RE not saying the graphics don't look better than Melee's, Felix. XD I was referring to the people that say that.

Image

WOW THEY'RE RIGHT I CAN'T TELL THE DIFFERENCE THE GRAPHICS ARE THE SAME AS MELEE'S.

I love sarcasm.
kill 10 characters in Cruel Brawl (so close! I managed to get 8 kills with Kirby)

I tried doing the Kirby trick but I just couldn't get the timing right. However, I tried the Jigglypuff method and succeeded in killing 10 of them. *links to the Jigglypuff method*

http://youtube.com/watch?v=ZPTo_e5Un2M

And finally, for those who don't know. The same rule as Melee applies to the time requirements for Brawls. In other words, the more human characters you have playing, the shorter the time requirements are for the challenges. So if you have four human characters brawling, to get the 100 hour challenge, you would need only 25 hours. If you have two, you would need 50 hours. For just one, yeah, the full 100.

So just set Final Destination, no items, four human people, stock match, and leave it on overnight every night for a week. XD Also, no, brawls played online do NOT count toward challenges, in case anyone was wondering.

Seriously... who cares about graphics if the game play is amazing?

I hate it when games are rated by how good they look. Are you playing the game or watching it?

I have a copy of Brawl. It is awesome. All my old favorites are still awesome. All the new characters are awesome. King Dedede is especially awesome. My friend code is in my sig. There is nothing more to say.

1) I don't think Nate's point was that graphics are most important. What's your point?

2) This whole "graphics vs. gameplay" issue is a false dichotomy. Games can have both, you know, and each improves the other. It's a combined experience.

3) Everyone who plays a video game, unless they're blind, both plays and watches. This is also a false dichotomy.

4) OK, here's an idea. We'll take . . . Heavenly Sword, for example, and switch all the character models for lazily animated cylinder-and-sphere stick figures. No facial expressions, no shading, nothing. A screenshot from this version could easily be faked in MS Paint, because the graphics are that rudimentary and bad. You still want to play it? Let's do the same thing with Brawl. Stick figures and boxes. You want to shell out fifty bucks for it now?

.rai//

I'll agree that gameplay is the most important part of a game. However, it is not the ONLY important part.

Well said, old boy. I agree, a pretty game with no gameplay value might be nice to watch but just doesn't cut it as a fun game. Likewise, the original Smash Brothers is still an incredibly fun game even though the graphics are horribly outdated, yet Brawl is also more enjoyable to play because of the nice visual upgrade. They're both important. ^^

Has anyone else noticed how gorgeous the background of final destination is?

I remember the N64 version of Super Smash Brothers. At first I was just renting it because I thought it might be good. But then once I played it, it was awesome. So Ive been with SSB for some years now.

Hey I still remember the first stage of SSB on 64, it was The Legend of Zelda. My favorite items from that game were ofcourse the sword and the hammer. And my favorite character has always been Pikachu. Can't get over the classics!

The original Super Smash Bros. is the best because Kirby was a god in it.

Then they nerfed him in Melee. Brawl made him better but they need to bring him back to his glory days.

Now that I think about it, Meta-Knight and King Dedede are pretty terrible too. HAL freaking made the game and they made their own characters suck. I don't get it.

ALSO. I want to kill whoever put wall-jumping in for all characters. I was trying to do the target challenge 3 today in under 20 seconds with Sonic and every time I tried to fall down one of the gaps he'd freaking leap off the wall back up to where I just came from. IDIOT.

Oddly though, I think King Dedede's recovery attack is pretty good being that he's pretty big. But he can only go up, meaning you can't control the direction he goes when you press B+^.

But yeah Kirby does rule. I use him very often. He has amazing recovery. And I've also liked his mallet and sword attack. Plus just get kirby to go up really high over the enemy then turn into a brick or other weighty items. He is just awesome.

Finally finished the 10 kills in Cruel Brawl challenge. Finished with Kirby, as I just couldn't get the hang of the other methods. You get a freaking STICKER?!

I used my last hammer on the 15-Minute Brawl. They made them harder to beat this time around and the DK trick doesn't work as well as it used too.

This leaves me to finish Boss Mode challenges, the 50 and 100 hours of Brawls challenges, and the "Collect All The _____" challenges.

Hey, wait a second....

I probably should've used my last hammer on the "Collect All Trophies" challenge.

Heh. Heh heh.

STUPIDSTUPIDSTUPIDSTUPID!!!

Well, this is wonderful. At least they're a LITTLE easier to get this time around....

Gamer handbook page 86 section 3: "A character is only as terrible as the player behind it."
u_u It's in the book.

But anyway, I don't really care about getting all the challenges. I only really wanna get every character, stage and song, and then I wanna have fun playing it with my friends. It's nice to have challenges in there to work on and try to get, but I don't freak out if I don't get them :/

Too bad the book is wrong, especially when it comes to Smash Bros.

Come on man, as a big tourney player you should know all about tiers and stuff. You know as well as I do in Melee an expert Bowser player isn't ever going to beat an expert Fox player because Fox is in a higher tier. By the way, I used Melee as an example because Brawl is relatively new, and the tiers haven't been determined yet.
I probably should've used my last hammer on the "Collect All Trophies" challenge.

There is no collect ALL trophies challenge. XD There is, however, a collect 500 different trophies challenge, which is still pretty rough. I think I have like 396 right now.

Speaking of which how the heck are you supposed to get boss trophies, like Rayquaza and stuff? They say you're supposed to use the Trophy Stand thing on them too but I wasted like ten minutes in the Rayquaza battle waiting for a freaking trophy stand and never got one. -.-

Yeah I feel sorry for completionists. How the crap are they going to get trophies for EVERY single enemy in SSE?

*looks*

Woah, coulda' sworn I saw the earlier.

You get em' by getting trophy stands, which actually isn't to terribly difficult. The higher you have the difficulty set, the higher the chances they are to appear. Strap on some "Trophy Drops +#" stickers, and they'll probably be pretty abundant (by probably, I mean I haven't really tried that yet)

I'm a completionists, and I can tell right now that this won't be fun. :P

Heh I know, I was joking. And your statement was about Meta-knight and Dedede, who haven't really been played with enough to be tiered. Just because you have a hard time playing good with them does not necessarily mean that they're terrible characters.
Then again, they might just be terrible characters.
