Final Fantasy Dissidia

Have a video game or or VG review? This is the place to to discuss it! We also accept discussions of board games and the like, but SHHH! Don't tell anyone, OK?

I was browsing a gaming forum that I frequent, and found out the following:

There will be 10 main characters (FF heroes only, FF villains aren't counted)

I thin it's also safe to assume that this doesn't count unlockable characters. Some games, like SSBM have more unlockable characters than starters. I hope that is the case here.

(As with any forum information, take this with a healthy helping of skepticism. The only reason I bothered posting this here is because the information found at this forum is true more often than not)

Not really.
Aside from what Ikimasu said, Kefka also did succeed in destroying a lot of things, just not everything. He pretty much left the whole world in Ruin. Hence the name "The World of Ruin". That and Kefka is actually insane, and is a more appropriate "Megalomaniac". Kuja doesn't look like one XD Kuja looks more like a pretty-boy XD
Depending on the reviews of the game, I may actually invest in it. While it is another reason to acquire a PSP (I really only have 2 reasons for wanting it) it really depends if it's a stellar game or not.

Kuja earns points for his witty banter.

I hate Seymour SO MUCH... Gah, he's a momma's boy just like sephy, only more twisted and not so "caring", effeminate like kuja, wants to destroy all sentient life, will never die... GAH!!! I like Sephy... I like Kefka... I really don't like Seymour... He's the most annoying FF boss that I can think of at the moment.

I wonder if he'll be in there... I'd love to beat him up with Vivi...

ikimasu wrote:While I will admit it has been awhile since I played FFVI, I don't think that this is a fair comparison.
I think that Kefka achieved his original goals. From what I remember, Kefka wanted power, and obtained it. Kefka wanted to rule the world, and he did. It was only as he was on the brink of death that he decided to destroy everything.

Whereas Kuja wanted to destroy the everything from the beginning. He failed at this. So he never met his original goals.

I could be remembering incorrectly, though. If I am, that will be a good excuse to play both games again.
Regardless, I am extremely tempted to buy a PSP right now. I'd be able to play all of these games.
Both succeeded with their initial goals (Kekfa, world domination, Kuja, revenge on Garland). And in the aftermath of both of these events did both parties decide they wanted "Monument(s) to Nonexistance." Kefka didn't decide this on the brink of death, he made a declaration of his intentions to the Returners as they finally stood before him in his tower.

So both antagonists got further than pretty much every other RPG villain, by accomplishing their first goals. Their second goals were one and the same, albeit for different reasons, but therein Kuja managed to get closer to the actual destruction of the essence of life. And points for getting ahead in destruction]

The Smash Bros comparison has been made based on the screenshots alone, hasn't it? Or do we actually have something that says that's the format?

Yes, that was my thought. The scan from the magazine looks as though it could be a fighting game, but that is just speculation. It isn't necessarily any more valid than the second responding post, which claims the game will be turn-based. I haven't read much on this, so perhaps there are articles that would make all this clear. Right now, though, we don't even know if the characters will span the series.

Anyway, though I much prefer RPG titles to fighting ones, I'd still be interested in this (mostly for the characters). What I would enjoy is beating up all the bishounen protagonists with Steiner. Just for the humor value.

Could Tidus and Vaan even manage to injure each other?

I'm with Doubleshadow here. Best part of the article.

What we know about the combat is that it will be a "Progessive battle" system. In the words of Destructoid... "Whatever that means."

I HOPE this is a fighting game... I never thought it may NOT be a fighting game... I mean, to feature Final Fantasy all stars and NOT be a fighting game makes it... Well, Kingdom Hearts without the cohesiveness that made it work...

EDIT: That comment saying it was turn based was someone confusing it with Last Remnant... A lot of people have mixed the two of these up... Dissidia is a Final Fantasy spinoff, Last Remnant is a new IP... Made with Unreal 3... Which looks awful, truth be told. Made by the "bouncer" team.

Someone said it would be turnbased? Wouldn't expect that out of it. Actually, as ironic as it may be, an RPG spun off of one of the final fantasies would be the last thing I'd expect at this point.

The person who said it would be turn-based was just someone commenting on the article itself. Bobtheduck says he's getting his games confused, which would make sense.

Etoh*the*Greato wrote:What we know about the combat is that it will be a "Progessive battle" system. In the words of Destructoid... "Whatever that means."

That does imply a fighting game, actually, in that it seems to indicate fighting opponents progressively, one after another.

Definitely looks like a fighting game to me from the caps here, especially the one at the very bottom.

I was hoping that the new design would cover more.

The Zidane design is pretty awesome, too. I want to wear those pants and those boots. *_*

Also, it does look to have some RPG elements to it, as well. In the top left picture you can see that it says "EXP Get!"

I'm thinking . . . if Chaos is in this game, then there's a chance we could see, oh, I don't know . . . some VINCENT up in here?

That would make my day. I might actually have to buy a PSP someday.

I don't think Chaos in this is necessarily Chaos from FF1, either... Just the mythological god "Chaos" Chaos is also a quasi-character in Sailor Stars, but I doubt Usagi's gonna pop in here... Though I'd have such a geek out if she did, haha, or maybe Sailor Mercury... *faints*

*cough*

Nothing to see here, I was only talking about Dissidia... Um...

Yeah, I thought about it not being the Chaos associated with Vincent about .5 seconds after I posted.

However, they should still have Vincent in the game, because Vincent is the man.

Mage Mashers... Long been one of my favorite weapons on Final Fantasy... I love all status inducing weapons. Hmmm... Are there going to be status effects in this game? That would be awesome. Items? Like how far are they going to go with the RPG / Tournament fighter mix?

Horray!

Ah, more solid information. However, it still isn't completely clear where this game will fall on the fighting/turn-based continuum. The listing of commands suggests that it won't be entirely the usual fighting game. RPG elements also appear to be retained, which is a plus for me.

Destroying pillars and other objects builds up your character's "Brave" meter, which gives you access to new attacks.
