Prince of Tennis and MAR to come to Toonami tv

Postby rocklobster » Sun Dec 10, 2006 5:26 am

Those of you who can't watch the Jetstream can stop whining! Prince of Tennis and MAR are going to start airing on Dec 23 on Toonami! Sorry, Hikaru no Go fans, but you're gonna have to sit this one out. (No surprise, I didn't think that show would make it to our TVs anyway. I'm not saying I don't like it, but it just doesn't seem Toonami material. Not enough action.)

(Eh, I wouldn't want them to show the HikaGo dub anyways - bad impression on the series.)

(And Tom, have you watched Tenis no Ouji-sama? Very action-packed, just not in a conventional way (though I would consider tennis balls in people's faces rather action-y ;) ).)

Mar is a decent although pretty unexceptional tournament fighting series.
Although the episode that I watched had flashbacks I don't remember from the manga...

Prince of Tennis is...well it has more "action" then one might think from a show about tennis.

I've seen Prince of Tennis and yes, I agree for a tennis-show it has a lot of action (I'm on Episode 20), but keywords:

FOR_A_TENNIS_SHOW

Hikaru No Go has a lot of action for a show about a board game. Regardless, Prince of Tennis has a lot more action.

Forget I used PoT as an example.

Ahem..

Retry: Because Hamtaro was so action-packed...0_o

Since no one seems to know anything about MAR I'll chime in.

Basic story (few spoilers): A young Japanese boy is transported to another land/dimension, only to realize it's the same place he's been having dreams about for a long time. He makes friends with all kinds of people and they all join together to fight the great evil that is trying to take over the whole world. Of course he has a super rare wepon that is powerful and has a personality.

The animation style is much more cartoon-like then most current animes, and the battle scenes get old after awhile. Most of the characters do have some dimension to their stories though so that keeps it interesting. It kind of reminds me of a RPG actually. Other then the fight scenes there really isn't much questionable content, so I would suggest you check it out and decide for yourself if you like it or not.

Most of the characters do have some dimension to their stories though so that keeps it interesting. It kind of reminds me of a RPG actually. Other then the fight scenes there really isn't much questionable content, so I would suggest you check it out and decide for yourself if you like it or not.

It reminded me of a RPG too... I found the manga decently entertaining, although Anzai basically reused some of his ideas from FoR.

I imagine they removed the decapitations and certain other things from the anime...

I find Flame of Recca far superior.

Is it just me or does the dubbed Ginta sound like the dubbed Usopp?

The humor in MAR I just find sad compared to FoR. Also, the whole plot is a lot more corny and predictable.
Boss is Ginta's father, I'm assuming. A lot of things in FoR were unpredictable.
But according to Ginta:
"It's about to get REAL GOOD!"
