Whoa there, hey... It is not pure fanservice. I love the show. I'm going to finish my review for CAA soon. It has a decent amount of fanservice, and I will discuss that in my review, but the show is not without redeeming qualities. I realize that Tech wrote that a long time ago, but even if he has seen the show entirely back then, I still think this show has redeeming qualities to it. The sequal, however...
Though this alone isn't saying much, it CERTAINLY has more redeeming qualities than "Love Hina." Shutting down to forget, the impact of premarital sex (not in a Christian light, but not as though it were "no big deal" either), forgiveness, and a good look at the sort of issues people go through in relationships.
I am rather disturbed that Tech said something like this, in fact. If he'd seen the whole thing and it wasn't to his tastes, then he has a right to not like it, but "complete drek" is just nonsense. With the exception of the OVA at the end, and the second series which should not even be compared to this, this show has many redeeming values to it and isn't as loaded with fanservice as you may think... It's middle of the road as far as that goes, but there is no nudity in the show except for the OVA, and the show isn't just about some fantasy. It has very interesting characters and several somewhat complex subplots. I won't get into it here, I'll save that for my review, but compete drek?
