Games you can't believe they made

Postby rocklobster » Fri Sep 29, 2006 11:20 am

What games are you surprised really existed?
One game that certainly comes to mind is that fabled "Custer's Revenge" game. I don't even want to tell you what it's about. Just enter it in Wikipedia yourself. :?:

Yeah, I saw Custer's Revenge when I did my research report on video games and their effects on children for school. Nasty.

A lotta games nowadays shock me, such as the Playboy game. And GTA. There's a lotta bad games out there that I'm surprised they made.

Deffeneately "Universal Studios: Theme Park Adventure"... That was one of, if no THE crappiest game I ever played... It was a bunch of games losely based on Universal rides but the mini games sucked and the number 1 way to get points was picking up trash and throwing it in the trash cans around the park... so stupid. The only thing remotely good on there was a trivia thingy, but the answers were either insanely easy or insanely hard....

DDR series

seriously.

Edit: Ok, maybe DDR wasn't a bad idea, but do we really need 10^84 versions of it in every arcade?

Oh, people who haven't played it much.

It gets boring playing the same songs over and over and over. Hence the need for all those different versions.

Um, I can think of quite a few hurtful games... especially ones based on kids TV shows. I think "That's So Raven" would be the worst.

Are you talking about the one where you have to go around and gather up the animals into the ark? It was one of the 3 games on the Bible Adventure NES cartridge? That one I actually enjoyed. ^_^

Anything Disney based. Playboy the Mansion, and BMX XXX (Why would they make a game about that. So bad)

Tom wrote: Final Fantasy X-2.

You give that game WAY to hard of a time. Its gameplay was solid and I liked the gameplay, Story was also decent, sure the clothing was why the crap would the do that. It was solid. Oh well just a matter of oppions.

I can't believe they made Bible Adventures for the NES. Noah had super strength? And you can even finish the baby Moses level after you've killed Moses by drowning him in a river. And if that happens, know what the game says? "Good job! But you forgot baby Moses!" So even though you killed him, you can still feel good about yourself, and I think that's what Moses would've wanted.

(Paraphrased from Seanbaby's "Worst Video Games Ever Made" page)
BMX XXX (Why would they make a game about that.

Penny Arcade had a comic that I think pretty much accurately portrays how BMX XXX got made.

Hehe, I know it was an awful game. But I still had fun running around getting the animals and food for the ark. I really hated though how he had to take inventory at the end of each stage. MAN that was annoying.
Noah's Ark was the only part of the game that I liked.

Dude, I loved those games. Noah's ark, the wise man one, and Bible-buffet. They were bad games, yeah, but I still loved them.

I guess the title asks about games you can't believe they made, not whether you like them or not, so yeah... I can't believe they made those.

Custer's Revenge really doesn't surprise me, though it was ahead of its siblings, erotic games have become a common thing in today's world, even ones featuring rape.

Without a doubt Jet Set Radio (an excellent game and personal favorite of mine to be sure), I mean roller blading graffiti spraying evading riot squads + tanks + insane assasin antics? Who could have anticipated it?

Yes we need that many versions. If you play as much as like gypsy, kkun, or I. You know what songs are associated with which mixes. Thus people go "oh thats my favorite mix". Plus different versions have different settings and extras. For example. 7th mix was the birth of "beginners mode". Speed modifications appeared in 6th mix. Etc etc etc.

My personal favorite is DDR Extreme (note: Not the US releases) for many reasons.

And now, click the link below for the most BORING game ever invented. The only reason I know this game exists is because I have it on Namco Museum V. 3. Namco, what were you thinking?
Phozon

Bah! Phozon was freaking amazing. It's really the only game I play for any substantial amount of time on Namco Museum V. 3. In fact, if not for Phozon, I probably would've traded the game back in... XD

Actually, since the topic is games we can't believe they made, not games that suck, I'll have to say I can't believe they made Kingdom Hearts. I mean, seriously, who was sitting in a conference room and said "I'll make a game mixing Disney and...FINAL FANTASY!"

And in the same vein, how about Paperboy? How can running a paper route be exciting?

You could actually examine quite a few popular games and think "what the heck?"

Like plumber brothers beating up on mushrooms and turtles.... how did that hit it off? o.O

Regardless of what you thought of the gameplay, how can you be surprised? I'm more surprised executives never gave into the urge to make cash-cow sequels to any FF title earlier.

Actually, I can't think of any games I can't believe they made, given my rather cynical opinion of modern American society. Or really humankind in general.

But if I had to pick one, I would have to say Katamari Damashii/Damacy. Now, before you get excited, I want very much to get this game. But seriously. A game about rolling random stuff up into a ball, with graphics that look like the designers were under the influence of consciousness-altering substances. And it sold well enough for a sequel. I can't believe it, but I'm glad they pulled it off.

The gameplay of FFX-2 was the only good quality.
They brought back the Job System and the battle system was wicked fast-paced and well executed.
I just can't believe how they ruined FFX like that.

Bratz: Forever Diamondz.
Come now. I actually had to sell that game to a little girl. It hurt my heart.

Harvest Moon. I don't care what the fanatics say. If someone has convinced you that a farming-based sim is cool you have been seriously wronged.
