What's the Longest Period of Time You've Lived Without Playing Video Games?

Postby Radical Dreamer » Mon Sep 18, 2006 4:03 pm

As the title says. XD For me, it's probably something like several months. I'll get really busy, and I won't be able to play games for a while. Most recently, I've gone about...3 months without playing. XD; Of course, that's mostly due to one of two factors: I don't have the time, or I don't have the money with which to buy new games (as I've played the ones I already own many times). I'm sure I'll get back into the swing of things once I get a job and am finally able to purchase my very own copy of KH2. *cries at the time she spent following the release of that game, only to be flat broke by its release*

Anyways, yeah, what's the longest period of time you've gone without gaming?

EDIT: Uh, just to clarify, from the time you were born to the time you got your hands on your first system doesn't count. XD

I went for about 4 months not playing during this last year of school, between Christmas and Summer. I was busy with school and getting my drivers license, and I was really into reading and getting to sleep early for some reason. :P

- Abraham Kuyper

"God the great Creator of all things doth uphold, direct, dispose, and govern all creatures, actions, and things, from the greatest even to the least, by His most wise and holy providence, according to His infallible foreknowledge and the free and immutable counsel of His own will, to the praise of the glory of His wisdom, power, justice, goodness, and mercy."

"All of Christian life is ceaseless worship of God the Father, through the mediatorship of God the Son, by the indwelling power of God the Spirit, doing what God commands in Scripture, not doing what God forbids in Scripture, in culturally contextualized ways, for the furtherance of the Gospel, when both gathered for adoration, and scattered for action, in joyous response to God's glorious grace."
- Mark Driscoll

"Believers do not pray with the view of informing God about things unknown to Him, or of exciting Him to do His duty, or of urging Him as though He were reluctant. On the contrary, they pray in order that they may arouse themselves to seek Him, that they may exercise their faith in meditating on His promises, that they may relieve themselves from their anxieties by pouring them into His bosom; in a word, that they may declare that from Him alone they hope and expect, both for themselves and for others, all good things."
- Martin Luther

"I have to tell you first that I am ready to die. I have put my affairs in order. Your supreme weapon is killing. My supreme weapon is dying, because when you kill me, people all over Romania will read my books and believe on the God that I preach - even more than they do now."
- Dr. Joseph Ton, the exiled Romanian pastor (quoted by James Montgomery Boice)

I'd say a year or two. I used to not like video games besides sports which I never played that often until I was introduced to a genre known as "R P G"s.

Let's see... After my parents bought me one of the first Atari consoles, I think I've gone maybe 4 weeks (once - my parents took us on a road trip around the US). Other than that, uh, I spent two weeks on my honeymoon without playing video games. That only happened once too.

I haven't played any games in quite a while due to studies. When I am as particularily busy as I am now, I can go for quite a while.

Uh, I'm not too sure, really. When I was about 4~9, we didn't even own a console (except an Atari, but we only played it one day and our dad didn't want us to anymore for some reason o.O ).

After that, we got our uncle's NES, and I started playing those games to death (I had played them way back when I was 3, actually, and it was at the age that I decided what I wanted to do with my life. =D ).

The 3 years from when I was born to when I got my Atari. Heh...

After that, probably 4 months... I don't think I played any video games the entire time I was in mexico...

I have gone through my phases where I don't care about games, but I don't think that has ever lasted more than a month or two.

I got a PS1 when I was 13 (I know a late and terrible start) and since then probably two or three days at most. If you include PC and Console and Handheld...

Between 1962 and 1975 there was a bit of a lull...

Hm, that's not likely to be topped soon...

As for myself, I'm not immediately sure. Definitely in the area of months, though probably not more than six. I tend to rent games, play them seriously for about a week, then go months without playing much of anything. The exception is sporadic playing for random enjoyment, sometimes including games that are social phenomena, like Halo.
