my parents don't really like it.

My parents were really annoyed at first (they saw them as just cartoons) then i showed my mom Steamboy and she really liked it. my sister is the only one in my family how actually though it was evil (she only though anime was like hentai and full of "actual" demons) but she somewhat liked princess nine XD

My parents aren't interested in it, but they trust me enough to not think it's all evil. When I bought my first two anime DVD's (which was basically when my mom found out that I enjoyed anime), she thought it was all a bunch of cartoons, but I've explained the whole "anime isn't just for kids" thing, and now she doesn't mind so much. XD

My Dad...well. XD He doesn't think they're evil or anything, but generally he'll make fun of them when I'm watching them. (This is coming from the guy who likes to watch Lindsey Lohan movies! Geez!) I've gotten to where I watch anime on my laptop just so he won't make fun of it. XD
My Mom says she does worry because she thinks that there's "a lot of pronography mixed up in it" (which isn't without reason, unfortunantely...I once got a magazine from Right Stuff that appearantly advertised Hentai in it, and my Mom saw it before I came home. >> Sheesh. I've gotten to where I never go to that site anymore because of it.), but she understands it's not ALL like that, so, she's OK with it as long as I'm careful. She doesn't like watching TV or movies much at all, though, so she'll never get addicted.
...I bet you anything I can get my Dad to like an anime one of these days, though. >>

Initially they really didn't have really the slightest idea as to what it was exactly, other than anime is Japanese animation/cartoons. When I went to my first con a couple years ago, and by then I'd been into anime a good 4 or 5 years, I decided to use that as a good opportunity to give them a more established idea of what anime is, and more specifically why I like it. When I have something I really believe in or enjoy as say a hobby, I seem to have this natural inclination to want to share to some extent my enjoyment and/or appreciation of the thing in question. Initially I just explained some stuff in depth about anime, the good and the bad, and why I love it as an intriguing medium for storytelling. I actually wasn't until some time after the con that I decided to show them some shows. My parents are really awesome in that they like to be happy for me in the things I do and are willing to hear what I have to say about the stuff I love. Since then I've shown them Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Voices of a Distant Star, and The Place Promised in Our Early Days. My mom especially has loved Miyazaki's stuff so far, and my dad seemed to enjoy Place Promised. My older "sister" Kathy can handle a bit more in terms of content than my mom, so I've shown her the Samurai X OVAs and Princess Mononoke, both of which she really liked. I've shown my sister Howl's, Spirited Away, and we got to the tail end of Laputa, all three of which she did enjoy to varying degrees. I've also been old enough for a while that my parents trust my discernment regarding my entertainment choices, and whenever we happen to discuss something of that nature in conversation, I have no problem being honest with them about stuff I've turned down, as well as stuff that I've enjoyed thoroughly as well :-) Regarding anime specifically, I'd say I'm in a very fortunate and blessed position; my apologies and sympathy to any that this is something difficult they deal with with their folks. If it's something that you to any significant degree still desire for them to gain a better, more open-minded understanding, and possibly even enjoy with you to some extent, honestly I'd say pray about it, for the right timing and words to talk about it! Again, I think wanting to have others be some part of the things we enjoy is great, and can sometimes be an unexpected blessing!

My parents mostly think its goofy, and they know there is bad stuff in a lot of anime but they also know there are clean anime/manga. I mostly just have to put up with my dad teasing me, (which i can hardly blame him from the few anime he has seen..they weren't to great)

...EVERYONE teases Naruto by saying "Believe It!" XD They used the catch phrase a biiiiit too much in the dub.

My mom just isn't big on cartoons in general, whether they are anime or not. And it doesn't matter what kind of audience they are directed at either. However, she understands that different people have different tastes, so she is perfectly fine buying me anime for my birthday or whatnot.
My dad wasn't really into anime, but I kept trying to convince him that if I found a show in the right genre, he would like it. Sure enough, I've got him at least relatively interested in a sci-fi/mecha show now. I hope to continue to find some stuff that he will like so we can watch it together.

The first time my mom actually watched anime, she thought it was terrible. My brother and I were watching the "Jupiter Jazz" episodes of Cowboy Bebop for the first time on DVD, and we didn't know about Gren's... anatomical abnormalities, I suppose you could say. Mom's okay with anime now, though. She likes Miyazaki's films a lot. Dad, on the other hand, watched the finale of Cowboy Bebop with us, claiming to enjoy it, but he still thinks most anime and manga are weird.

though my parents aren't really against me reading manga and watching anime, they aren't very happy with it either. they think of it as another one of those "fads" i'm going through. i showed my dad Spirited Away one time and he, didn't really think it was all that great. there was another time when my brother and sister were REALLY into dragon ball z and we were watching some episodes (vegeta's fight against perfect cell) and my dad was watching a little bit too. however, i'm not really jumping at the idea of getting my parents (mainly my mom) into anime, because i get the feeling that they might not like it. also i mean, it's pretty embarrassing (and rather irritating) when my mom flips through the manga i'm buying right in front of the cashier and in front of all the people waiting in line behind us.

My parents trust me with most things, including anime. They just remind me to be very cautious in any media, esp. since most things out there are secular, and made by people whose goal is not to glorify God. They aren't personally fans of it, but I don't watch all that much anyway.

My dad pretty much treats it like any other media form, which is cool. My mom, on the other hand . . . is doing better. She used to be somewhat antagonistic to it in general, despite her near-complete ignorance concerning anime. Right now, I think she's closer to my dad's stance now, but I don't think she's quite there.

I know my mom's cool with it because of former students she had drawing her pictures in anime style and talking about it etc.
My dad would probably just keep a respectful distance like he does with video games (even board games he doesn't like)

My cousin thinks Pokemon is demonic...go figure that one. 
ANYWAY...my stepfather doesn't really care, but my mom is cool with it. I gave my nephew a Digimon: The Movie DVD, and she really didn't seem to mind. She trusts my nephew's judgement when it comes to cartoons. When it comes donw to me, she just thinks I'm a really big kid watching cartoons!

My parents don't care. They're like "oh its anime"
My dad sat with me and watched some Bleach and Advent Children a while back. I think he enjoyed some of it.
They're korean, so I assume they would react differently than the other parents mentioned in this topic.

Don't really care. As long as it's not henta (and even then, it's my decision if I wanna watch it...which I won't...cause it's disgusting), I get free reign on everything I watch. My parents do like anime though. My mother likes Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Grave of the Fireflies, and Rurouni Kenshin. My dad likes Cowboy Bebop, Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal, Princess Mononoke, and Grave of the Fireflies. I am trying to get him hooked on Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex but so far no good.
They only watch it when I am with them however my mom wanted me to go with her to see Howl's Flying Castle haha. We never did though.

Recently I convinced my parents to watch Grave of the Fireflies. They thought it was beautiful and terribly sad. Now they don't write off all anime, but they haven't watched anything else. I want them to try My Neighbor Totoro. Good contrast there.

Mom is slightly interested in it. Being 54 and needing some inspiration for sewing, I told her of a couple of titles and told her to find the anime club on the college campus.
Soon enough, she was sewing a Belldandy costume for one of the club kids. Although she doesn't watch all that much, she's cool with it.
Dad...he doesn't get it. But that's okay, as I wouldn't expect him to.
