Question About Naruto

Postby Calypsa » Sat Aug 26, 2006 2:09 pm

Okay, I've heard lots of good things about this series, and I've decided to give it a go. However, I have a question about how I should go about watching it.

I'm thinking about getting an uncut sub version out for sale, but it only has 13 episodes in it. Now, I think that a lot of people here have seen more than 13 episodes -- Someone mentioned 90 on some thread. Where can I get this many of them? Or are you talking about watching the americanized dubbed version, instead of the sub? Do you watch the DVDs or on television?

NOTE: I have a feeling that the sub/dub debate is pretty hot, so I just want to say I don't want that. I'm just wondering how I can go about getting/watching the series, as there appears to be several options...

Thanks a lot ahead of time!!

Most people here watched the fansubs before the series was licensed in America, and some people watch the current episodes in fansubs. By the way, there's a LOT more than 90 episodes, according to Anime News Network, it is at least 202.

The uncut sub version in the US will only have 13 episodes per set, and I think they will be released every six months or yearly, I can't remember. Either way, that's a long way to go.

If you want to "get" them, your only option is either raw DVDs from Japan, which you probably don't know Japanese so they wouldn't be helpful, or bootleg DVDs which are illegal and poor quality. Fansubs are also illegal, though there are unscrupulous groups out there who have all the episodes available for torrent, whereas most decent fansubbers have removed all torrents for the older episodes.

So you're either gonna have to buy the DVDs, or watch the dub on TV.

Or you could possibly get Fansubs to stay ahead (there's probably some place that still has them), then get the Uncut sets as they come out? Or maybe just try the Edited DVDs for now (since they're really not that far off, for once).

Of course, I'm not sure this is the kind of series I'd really want to put that much money into. Sure, the first arcs (Zabuza and Chuunin exam) were pretty nice, but it really goes downhill from there (a couple of lackluster arcs followed by filler in the anime, and pretty dull current chapters in the manga).

yeah. what he said. (about the anime going downhill after the first couple of arcs.) anyways, unless you're REALLY set on watching this series, then i suggest that you simply watch it on cartoon network (or adult swim or whatever) because i don't think the anime's all that great. IMO.

Ok, gotcha. Thanks everyone! I've set the tv to just record it on toonami...I might just leave it at that and invest my money into something else, then. While I'm here, I'll just say that my other ones I'm considering are Rurouni Kenshin, Haibane Remei, Bleach, and Inuyasha. Maybe Tsubasa. Anyone have some advise on which to choose? My favorite kinds of anime are along the lines of Escaflowne, Lodoss Wars, Spirited Away, Howls' Moving Castle, Twelve Kingdoms, etc... I really like fantasy stuff -- a bit of romance doesn't hurt either. I know that's off topic; if it's too much so, I'll just be quiet now and go order my anime. *grin*

Thanks again!

I'll be blunt. This is NOT a series to invest your time and money in. It's excellent for the first few story arcs. But around episode 100 or so, it starts to seriously decline. There is filler everywhere. And it is incredibly annoying. Too many episodes.

I definately recommend Bleach, Haibane Renmei and Kenshin. They are better titles worth investing.

Okay! Really won't be buying Naruto, then. I had no idea it got so lame after the first couple of arcs...Ah well. I'll look into those suggestions -- thank you for your bluntness. ;)

As usual, I'd suggest checking out One Piece. It's much better than you might think (don't judge by the English version, please). Unfortunately, it can be a bit... difficult to get a hold of here. Xp

Ooh, ooh, I'm definitely going to suggest you watch Haibane Renmei. VERY good series! Rurouni Kenshin is also a great series (my second favorite, Haibane is my third), but I'd steer clear from buying InuYasha right off the bat if I were you. XD; It's kind of like Naruto/DBZ, in that it's far too long and drags things out on and on. It's not the worst series ever created or anything, but I'd rent it first (or catch it on TV) if I were you, and then buy just the DVDs that have the episodes you liked best on them. Buying the entire series would be waaay too expensive, expecially considering the amount of mediocre episodes. :thumb:
