Cool. I’ve been reading/watching a bit of the Sky Piea arc, and I’m totally lost. Can anyone give me a heads-up on the basic gist of it? How did the gang get there anyway?

I've read most of it in the Shonen Jump. I didn't really like it at first, but now I like it as much as I like Naruto. I don't really mind the art style at all....although Usopp's nose is quite long. :)

It grows on you, art style, characters, and all. I used to find Usopp incredibly annoying, but he's really quite amusing once you get to know him.

You mean Kuina? I love that character! She was sooooo cool. She should have gotten more screen/manga time.

We already have a thread about both these anime/manga, actually. But ah well, I'll let it go.

I've got a question about the translated version. In the American Shonen Jump, during the Buggy Arc, the dog was called Chou Chou, ne? Well, the manga I got in Japan (untranslated) said its name was Shu Shu; chouchou is the word for "mayor." And I know my katakana well enough not to have misread it. Does anyone know what's up with that? I even emailed Shonen Jump to ask, but they seemed to have ignored my query.

yeah, well you'll also notice the tragedy that is Gum Gum. And whatever happened to Buggy's Bara Bara! Oh well... I would have been happy with them leaving Luffy's move prefixes at Gomu Gomu. Frankly Gum gum makes him sound like a bubble gum man instead of a Rubber one.

If you pronounce Chu correctly.... because CH can sound like SH, it works but normally.. no. Also Django instead of Jango.

Help me you: which was the original? He's Django in the American Shonen Jump...

As for "Gum Gum" I really don't care that much. The artist stated his battles weren't meant to be that high key, and the phrase adds to that well enough.

I wasn't too peeved by the "Gum Gum" though it did take a little getting used to. I understood the "Bara Bara" change too -- not many people would really get the Japanese meaning. The manga just isn't quite as funny in the English as it is in the Japanese, though. *sigh* Oni-giri...that rocks. ^_^ I love Zoro.

About Jango, the katakana in the original is Ja-n-go, so I guess you could spell it Django, but the "d" is not said. I don't know why they added it; so many more people mispronounce it now.

Yeah, Ren_sama, how long have you had my video now? -_-

Ooh, can anyone explain the basic plotline behind the Alabasta arc for me, either? Between the bits and snippets I've had access to, it's been very confusing. (Either PM me or spoilerize it, though, to spare the others, please.)

I LOVE the manga. How can you not like the style? I think it's original and refreshing to see something different. Not to mention hilariously funny in some parts. Luffy just cracks me up, especially his nonchalance in many cases. I've never seen the anime, but I'd love too. The problem is where I live there are no stores that sell anime, and at movie rentals they only have titles like Hellsing, Vampire Hunters, you get the idea.

It's really quite easy to not like the style. Actually, I didn't have a problem with the lesser quality (I'm hardly an art person) for quite a while. Most of the time art styles grow on me, but this one is annoying me more every issue I read. I'll keep reading for sake of plot and Zoro.

By the by, what is your avatar, Ren_sama? I see Kakashi, but I can't tell what he's doing before/after looking up with the Sharingan.

Ah. With a Mac I can pause the animation at will, and I see it now. I'm glad to see that the anime version of that scene looks just as cool.

Meanwhile, let's not get off topic. Hmm... what to say... how about favorite characters? And your favorite crew member, if such is different. You already know my favorite crew member, and Captain Kuro is my favorite villain (got to love the weapon...).

Heh. My favorite crew member is Roronoa Zoro(Cool swords) and my favorite villian would have to be Captain Kuro as well, at least so far.

Kuro is cooler than the previous villians anyway although Buggy had an interesting power. I did think that acrobat had some pretty cool techniques.

True, Cabaji did have some interesting skills. Too much of a jerk for him to be my favorite character, though.

And I think you'll like Kuro even better once you see him fight, MasterDias. I'm waiting for that as well.
