Try the PSone game. It's one of the best.

The PS2 "Save the Homeland" Harvest Moon I didn't like that much. They cut out some of the best parts of the HM series. It was easily the most lacking of the bunch.

I own HM64 and I love that game. All the stuff you can do is just great! I also own HM:AWL, but I didn't think it lived up to the 64 version.

Holy crap! Yes, I've been a HM fan since.... ummm.... well, since it came out on SNES so many years ago. I try to buy most of them, and though I am a hardcore HM fan, most of the more recent ones have been crap (STH, AWL). But I recently got MFoMT (yes, I am a guy, for those who might ask) and I've been playing it almost non-stop.

If I had to rate the HM games though, it'd be:

1. FoMT/MFoMT (only because it's portable)
2. BTN (would have been 1, but isn't quite as portable)
3. 64

Also, to Azier:
If you're looking for a good one, I would have to recommend the two in my number one slot. Both are just about that same, but I *MIGHT* go with MFoMT because if you want to get the DS version coming out sometime next year, I'd go with MFoMT because it's the only one able to connect with HM DS. If you REALLY want PS2, then I'd wait 'till Oh! Wonderful Life comes out.

BTW, am I the only one totally hyped for Poem/Song of Happiness!?

Awesome another obbsesed fan like me. Anyway . FoMT and MFomT are the way to go. I hated Save the Homeland. A Wonderfull Life wasnt completly bad ,but still wasnt as good as the other besides STH it was better then that one. :thumb: Poem/Song of Happiness Just in case yall didnt understand they havent completly deside on the name is the reason we typed it like that. But i cant wait. I also want a DS and Nintendogs. Yes im a guy and i love animals. So get over it. :shake:

You may want to wait a little bit for Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life Special Edition to come out. It's the PS2 version of the Gamecube game, but with some gameplay enhancements. It also has a fourth possible wife (Lumina, for those of you who've played the GC version), and the kid you have can be either a boy or a girl. You can also continue your farm after you "beat" the game. I'm probably going to trade in the GC version to get this one. It should be coming out in just 18 days(the 27th).

I love the entire series. N64 was the best in my opinion, but BTN was good too. AWL has its own charm, but it's not quite as good as the older ones. Song of Happiness looks like pure ownage, though. So does HMDS.

Yeah. It's hard to say that the older versions were bad. I still like the old SNES and GB versions, but I also like some of the more recent titles.

It is great to see some more HM fans, though, since I'm about the only one in Georgia that I know of (it gets tiring hearing people saying 'What's so great about a *farming* game!?' and the looks the people at GameStop give me aren't all that pleasing, either).

Also, can't wait for Poem/Song to come out. I mean, look at all the people that you can marry: http://www.hmotaku.net/?m=g&g=poh&p=partners

Not to mention all of the other characters: http://www.hmotaku.net/?m=g&g=poh&p=chara

It just seems like this is going to be the uber HM game, with characters from a good bit of the previous games included. This is DEFINITELY one worth waiting for!

I played three versions of the game. The SNES, which I absolutely loved, the first GB one, which blew planet sized cookie chunks, and the PS2 one, which didn't catch my interest.

Both the other games I played just seemed to have lost what made the first game so great... I may have to give some of the other ones a try...

Yeah, the PS2 and the first GB version lacked the marriage part of the game, which is probably why they weren't great. I still enjoyed the GB version, though, even without the marriage feature.

I forgot we had a thread on this; otherwise I would have posted earlier this year when I tried the series for the first time. ^_^

I've played Friends of Mineral Town and More Friends of Mineral Town just a little bit, but A Wonderful Life Special Edition is the one that I've been keeping busy with. (I married Lumina and had a son named Melody. )

I loved and still love HM BTN but my PS1 kinda died and my GameCube aint bilingual so I'm stuck without my Harvest Moon fix right now. I just can't wait for Harvest Moon: Magical Melody. Its the last GameCube game I want to by before (hopefully) upgrading to the Wii. Its looks a lot more in depth than previous titles and even lets you decide what industry to do into.
I also had one of the GBA ports once upon a time but its long gone and I can't remember which one it was...
Will insert something intelligent here later... maybe

BTN FTW! I love the BTN world, which is also in FOMT and MFOMT (I have all of them). It is indeed the perfect HM game, IMO. I'm yet to play the newer on on GC, mainly becasue I know I don't have a few weeks of my life to dedicate to a new addiction =P

Yeah, the new GC one (Magical Melody, was it?) Looks pretty good. I've been meaning to give it a try for a while now. Has anyone hre played it? <.< >.>
Well anyway, I've hardly played a HM game, sadly, so I haven't had the chance to become a hardcore fan. I've really liked what I've played of them before, though.

If you have a GBA/DS, I strongly recommend Friends of Mineral Town or More Friends of Mineral Town. Both are great games! The difference between the two is that More Friends of Mineral Town is one of the For Girls games. In MFOMT, you play as a female character and marry a guy, rather than playing as a guy and marrying a girl. Both games are fun, and despite some issues with MFOMT, I believe it's the better of the two, as it has more feature and other fun things than FOMT does (different outfits, among other things). Plus, my file on MFOMT is much more developed than my FOMT one is.

*nods* They did that with the older Gamecube one as well - made a version of it for girls.
Okay thanks, I'll look into those two. Is there any one in particular that you'd suggest as a first? Like the N64 one or something?

Well, it's really a matter of opinion. I think the BTN world is a good one; it doesn't make you do as much work as the others, but you can up your workload to rival that of the newer ones.

Basically, FOMT and MFOMT are simple enough to teach you the HM basics, but offer you the ability to make it more in-depth and strategic. As far as which of the two to pick... it's all a matter of opinion.

I personally like MFOMT (HM for girls) better due to an update in the interface between the two games. Most of the updates are simply little nuances here and there that just make it neater. For instance, you are typically limited to one outfit in HM - the blue overalls. But in MFOMT, you can change it to pink, red, orange, blue, green, or white. I usually ended up changing it every couple of days (in-game days) just so I didn't end up getting bored with the same-old same-old.

Um, when you get married, it offers you the same 'nicknames' as always for your husband/wife to call you - Honey, Dear, Darling, or simply by your character's name (Alex, in my FOMT game's case, and Yuki in my MFOMT game). In MFOMT, if you dont' like any of those, you can actually input one yourself. In my MFOMT, Gray (Yuki's husband) calls her Yuki-chan =P But it can be anything you want... even if you want him to call you Stupid face or something.

I believe there are others, but I can't really remember what they were. It's been awhile since I played XD I gotta find my GBA charger.... now!

Given, those are minute details, but they're enough to make me like it more ^^ Good luck finding one, though. You might have to ebay it. I traded in my FOMT game one time. Worst mistake I ever made. I re-bought it... I got the last copy in my town (amongst all new and used copies - no used ones anywhere, and no stores had it, save for Gamestop). This was a year after it came out, and it still cost me $25.

EDIT: I need to comment on HM64! I forgot to ><

Of all of the HM games, this is my 3rd favorite (second being the original). The interface is kinda clunky, since the camera is at a 3/4 perspective. It's rather simple to play through, as well. The characters themselves (names and appearances) are the same, except their personalities, jobs, and relationships amongst one another are all different. The game isn't difficult at all, and doesn't really offer the same in-depth content that you can get out of FOMT.

By far though, my favorite thing about this game is... that you can actually *date* a girl before you marry her. It's not literal dating... but it's more like the two of you become boyfriend/girlfriend before you actually get married. This is carried out in a makeshift sort of cutscene, where the girl approaches you. She talks about how you've made it quite apparent that you like her, and asks you why you haven't propsed to her. I personally think this is the best thing in any HM game to date. I'll admit - I'm a romantic. I play these games partially for the strategy, but primarily for the romance and the pseudo-drama (I think a T-rated HM game would probably let them be more dramatic, but I do commend Natsume for sticking with an E rating). So seeing a girl I've been giving stuff to ask me why I'm not marrying her is kinda neat (especially since I can't get a girlfriend for beans IRL)^^;; After the little cutscene, her dialogue towards you changes, and she generally seems more like she actually cares about you, rather than the normal reaction from most games, where the girl seems to be merely friends with you right up until you propose.

All in all... on HM 64, I can't say I'd recommend it as a first. DEFINITELY a good game, but not so much of a good introduction.

And yes. I COULD talk about HM forever. I know at least one of you is thinking that XD

XD wow, that's a long post. It was very informative though. Thanks ^^/ What system was the original for again? SNES?
Anyway, that's neat about the relationship thing. That's one of the reasons I wanna play it XD I always thought that would be fun, and heck, farming's a ton of fun too :D
We'll I'll look into the games and see which one I wanna try out. Thanks :D

Yep, the original was first on SNES, and it spawned a spinoff, portable version, known as Harvest Moon: GB. I own it, and it's my second favorite portable HM game, behind the ones I mentioned earlier. It doesn't feature the relationship systems that the others do, though. I'd be willing to bet that finding a copy of HM: GB anywhere other than ebay would be tough now, though.

FoMT is my favorite GBA game. Not that it's saying much, as I have played a total of three, but it is a most awesome game.
