Werewolves

Postby thorn1ofmany » Sun Feb 08, 2004 12:06 am

Ok, post everything you love and hate about werewolves.

I personally can't stand it when werewolves are made out like monsters. Wolves themselves are such majestic and noble creatures, why shouldn't werewolves be the same?

I used to think about werewolves in purely the Hollywood way, and then I read the book called Blood and Chocolate. That got me thinking about it, and Hollywood totally brutilizes them. Werewolves would be wolf-minded as well as human-minded so they wouldn't just go on a killing spree, don't ya think? I mean, you don't see wolf packs out there killling for the fun of it.

What I really like about werewolves is putting myself as one in a daydream and "feeling" all the power and pride of a wolf in me. Kinda weird, but that's what I think. :brow:

Gods plan is like the sun. its too big and bright to look at directly, and sometimes the rain clouds cover it, but sometimes the plan dapples through the clouds and we can see beautiful glimpses of what he has in store for us.

Ehehehe.... what a good thread this is indeed. ^_~

I personally agree with you two. In alot Hollywood movies of werewolves they make them out to be the terrible bad guys, or atleast out of control manics. :shady:
In many books and movies also, its a common theme fo the werewolf to have a kinda of sad story... like its not a good thing that they turn into a wolf every month. I think I'd be awesome... XD

Hey but wait a second, if werewolves were good then there wouldn't be any COOL werewolf horror movies around! Take American werewolf in London for instance, that ruled.

Its like vampires, as soon as vampires become good its an action movie and NOT a horror movie.

Example:

Blade2 = Action Movie
Lost Boys = Horror Movie

(Im not sayin Blade 2 is a bad movie, its one of my favourites in fact, its just its not a horror movie)

Anyway, back to werewolves. You can have a movie were the werewolf is the brutal killer AND intellegent, take Dog Soldiers for instance.

Just my two cents (oooh, I love that phrase)

I love werewolves, and I definitely like them more than vampires.

I like the fact that vampires have enhanced strength, speed, agility, etc. I also like the struggle they have with themselves. They don't want to hurt the people they love, but they have to deal with the possibility of hurting others in their transformed state.

I also like other types of lycanthropes, such as werebears, werebats, werefoxes, etc. If I had to pick one, I would say that I like werebears even more than werewolves.

I some of the legends, werewolves can change at will (that is how it was in the movie "Underworld"), which is preferrable to the full moon versions.

It does make sense that werewolves should retain their rational faculties in their transformed state, although they should also have something of a wolf nature to deal with even when they are in human form.

Saddly I can't agree with ya there cbwing, vampires are more interesting (to me) than werewolves (although werewolved DO kick some serious behind).

What I do like about werewolves more than vampires is the transformation state. If you've ever seen American Werewolf In London you'll know what I mean.

Oh, and something I didn't mention before. I prefer the werewolves that change at full moon and cant control their actions because, well hey, that is the ORIGINAL folkstory. Plus it adds terror to the story/movie and Im a sucker for a good horror...

Yeah, it does kinda add to the story that werewolves are out of control with the full moon. But sti-ill they could be the good guy and that could give them over come over the course of the story. ^_^

My opinion is that werewolves should be able to transform at will except during the full moon in which they automatically transform.

I like werewolves more then vampires too. but I prefure it when like underworld and countless other storys they can change at will when they become old enough and learn to harness their abilitys. As for them controlling their actions, thats all made up stuff , well after the original makeing up of stuff. Werewolves have always been portrayed as increadibly brutal and savage. takeing that away from them takes away from the myth. though im not one to complain when people put their own twist on old storys like those.

I prefer werewolves and other Lycanthropes over the other creatures of the night cus to me they can be used to make more realistic plots. I always had a theory on how they create through biting humans and it goes as this: werewolves can have some kind of Rabies-like virus that transmutes wolf DNA into human DNA, which in turn allows the infected person to create more through saliva or whatever.

By the way, what do you all think of Jack Nicholson as a werewolf in, well, "Wolf"?

I could be wrong with about the title. I think it was in the early 90s (scary on how that is a separate decade now). I'll google it and find out.

Actually I always found werewolves the hardest to believe mainly because it would be almost impossible to completely change shape in the space of about 5 mins and then change back later on. When animals have to adapt to a new enviroment it doesn't take a few days, it takes hundreds of years. I'm sure someone agrees with me here.

Personally I always found vampires and zombies (thanx to the plot in res.evil) easiest to believe. But there we go thats just me and my demented brain talkin' here ^=^.

I like when people portray the change that werewolves go through as painful. I mean, changing your body that drastically shouldn't be all nice and easy.

There should be a werewolf anime. :brow: That'd be so much fun.

This is the information I found (this is my second writing of this, since I copy and pasted the wrong thing and it blacked out until I hit back), thanks to rottentomatoes.com.
The deposed editor-in-chief of an old, distinguished publishing firm, recently taken over by a multi-millionaire, corporate raider, is bitten by a wolf on a lonely stretch of road in Vermont the night of a full moon. As he slowly watches himself metamorphose into something lupine, he discovers that he has been betrayed by his most promising protege, his wife of 16 years has been unfaithful, and that he has fallen in love with the raider's beautiful, headstrong daughter. What follows is a series of grisly events that reaches a bloody and horrifying climax.

Released theatrically in the USA June 17, 1994.
Then Spirit Wolf, you need to watch American Werewolf in London (is this the 3rd or 4th time I've mentioned this film?), you see the WHOLE transformation up close and can even hear the guys bones crack as he changes, its quite an old film but its absolutally amazing.

I've always thought it would be interesting if the full moon acted like a catalyst that signaled the transformation of a werewolf at puberty, in time the maturing werewolf would learn to control thier ability to change.

The Book of Enoch gives some more insight into the Nephilim (See Genesis 6:2-4). It talks about how when the Nephilim died they became evil spirits that roamed the earth a.k.a. ghosts. Of course the Book of Enoch isn't cannonized so you have to take that into consideration, but it's still interesting.

Kool, as I said I do believe in ghosts. Not quite sure what they are mind you (my last post was just a guess at what they may be, just want to make that clear). Evil spirits are mentioned from time to time in the bible, thats one reason I believe they exist. What is a 'Nephilim' by the way?

When men began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose. Then the Lord said,

"My Spirit will not contend with man forever, for he is mortal; his days will be a hundred and twenty years."

The Nephilim were on the earth in those days - and also afterward - when the sons of God went to the daughters of men and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown.

Genesis 6:1-4

It happened after the sons of men had multiplied in those, that daughters were born to them, elegant and beatiful. And when the angels, the sons of heaven, beheld them, they became enamoured of them, saying to each other,

"Come, let us select for ourselves wives from the progeny of men, and let us beget children." . . .

. . . Then they took wives, each choosing for himself; whom they began to approach, and with whom they cohabited; teaching them sorcery, incantations, and the dividing of roots and trees. And the women conceiving brought forth giants, whose stature was each three hundred cubits (450 ft.). These devoured all which the labour of men produced; until it became impossible to feed them. When they turned themselves against men, in order to devour them; and began to injure birds, beasts, reptiles, and fishes, to eat their flesh one after another, and to drink thier blood. Then the earth reproved the unrighteous. . .

. . . Now the giants, who have been born of spirit and of flesh, shall be called upon earth evil spirits, and on earth shall be their habitation. Evil spirits shall proceed from their flesh, because they were created from above; from the holy Watchers was their beginning and primary foundation. Evil spirits shall they be upon earth, and the spirits of the wicked shall they be called. The habitation of the spirits of heaven shall be heaven; but upon earth shall be the habitation of terrestrial spirits, who are are born on earth.
The spirits of the giants shall be like clouds, which shall oppress, corrupt, fall, contend, and bruise upon the earth. They shall cause lamentation. No food shall they eat; and they shall be thirsty; they shall be concealed, and shall not rise up against the sons of men, and against women; for they come forth during the days of slaughter and destruction.
And as to the death of the giants, wheresoever their spirits departed from their bodies, let their flesh, which is perishable, be without judgment. Thus shall they perish, until the day of the great consummation of the great world.
