Custom DS Skin

Postby Felix » Mon Jul 31, 2006 6:28 pm

Well, since I'm apparently going through an artistic Advance Wars phase, I designed this skin for my DS [link], and was planning to purchase it through this website, Designerskins.com. I 'm afraid, however, that it would be considered an infringement of copyright to try and get this printed. I want a cool skin for my DS, but none of the official nintendo ones are any good. *shrugs* What do you think of it?
P.S. Sami and Eagle make a good couple XD

Considering the banner at the top of the "create your own skin" page features a Yuna XBox skin and a World of Warcraft laptop skin, I don't think the site would give you any trouble printing it for you. Now whether it's legally an infringement of copyright, I don't feel qualified to comment on that. ^.^;

Well, I'm no expert but I say contact the company and ask them. Technically, it is infringment, however, it's for your own personal use. You're not using it to profit or making it available for free to other people, so there wouldn't be a good reason for someone to come after you. The only ones who might possibly have a problem with it would be the printers themselves, so I suggest asking them.

IMPORTANT: You are purchasing the templates ONLY. By downloading, designing and uploading your custom skin you are claiming full responsibility for all content submitted. Designerskins can in no way be held liable for any copy written materials submitted. By submitting your skin you are claiming to have full rights to their legal use. This responsibility solely remains with that of the template purchaser.

so going by that, unless you use some of your own original art, pretty much anything you send to them for printing would be infringing on someone's copyright. Notice that the "Fire Warrior" skins are all Sephiroth from FF7, "Blue Fury" is Hitsugaya from Bleach, and then all the obviously labled skins in the 'Hot Games Titles' sections.
Personally, if they're willing to run such a site they should be prepared for any legal issue they may find themselves in, I wouldnt worry about purchasing just one skin.
