This really won't affect 95% of us much. It'll probably make coverage better for journalists and easier for devs and publishers to get their product noticed. What with less floorspace and hecticness that is so common at E3.

As the comments on Joystiq so eloquently put it...

Now it's going to be the Electronics Entertainment Expo Expo?

These stupid people and their redundant acronyms. *kills idiots who came up with the name*

Man, that name change is completely below stupid. Other than that, it sounds like a logical move. Anyone here been in the Nintendo Wii line or seen a video of it? Totally insane.

O'yeah.... I find it amusing how forums across the internets are screaming bloody murder over this. :)

Well, if wii were to really think about it, stupid name changes were all the rage at last E3... *cough*

I'm still not sure what the signifigance of this is...

Hahahaha

EDIT: No game demos? Death to E3, or rather, BRING IT BACK!

Oh, and if you actually payed attention to the writeup, it's not a name change to E3expo, that's what they're (the publicist, not Joystiq) saying it's always been called... Reminds me of ITT tech... What the heck does ITT shand for? I can't think of what the two ts stand for unless one of them is technology...

So, there's going to be no Space World either this year.

I honestly think this is good for the industry. E3 turned into the battle of the "Big 3". Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo. Also, the booths where getting so large and extravagant that the cost of E3 was simply crippling to any Indie developer that wanted thier product to be seen.

Also, from someone who has worked in the industry, this is a huge relief of pressure on developers. It is not uncommon for an entire month of development time being spent on JUST the E3 demo. That is a whole lot of dev time spent on just one or two levels. 1month + Millions of dollars wasted at the booth = lower quality game that took more time and money to develop.

Plus, now we as gamers have two events that we will get good gaming news from .E3 for the press and devs; and PAX for the gamers. Not a bad deal if you ask me.

Although we shall see if these changes really effect anything... Remember the "booth babes" thing? I was there last year, there where plenty who where wearing.... less than decent clothing.

If anything, I hope that the indie developer can get noticed at E3 now.

I agree this is good too. In fact, in a press release, they stated that the reason they were able to do this is because the industry has gotten so strong, that they no longer needed to make it a huge event. This will also cut down on the number of fanboys who get tickets and impede the progress of those who work for a living, trying to write news reports or the like.

And like you said, for giant events for fanboys, there's always PAX. So everyone wins in this instance.
