I heard many bloggers of the gaming community (and not just regular joes who went to E3, but famous members of the community) say that this was exceptionally detrimental to their enjoyment of the Wii. There was just such a huge demand for it that people were cranky, irritated, and were told by the people running the booth to hurry up so other people could play.

I know this has absolutely nothing to do with the merits of the system, but I think it's interesting that the fact the line was so long decreased from the enjoyment of the system.

Fortunately, there will be no lines (10 minute or otherwise) to play it in my house. :D

One thing I'm having trouble finding out - when the Wii first comes on in Japan I'm going to snatch one up. Problem is... I want the ability to download the backcatalog of Japanese language games. I need to know if using an import Wii in America would force me to download Region 1 back catalog games only, or is the Wii going to be region free and give anyone anywhere the ability to download games from either language?

The main reason why I want to see if I can pre-order the Wii is because, to my knowledge, Nintendo hasn't ever had a recall on any of their products. This translates to me not having to send anything back to the manufacturer because of some crap like overheating or DREs.

Am I overstating on this or has Nintendo really never had a buggy launch? I'd like to know.

If it's region free, Nintendo is officially the world's freakin' greatest company ever.

I don't recall anything like that, though I'm no expert on the history of this stuff. Hm...

A quick search reveals no problems with the official Nintendo Gamecube power adapter. However, there WAS a third party power adapter developed by Intec for the Gamecube, intended as a replacement if the original was broken/damaged. This adapter had problems, since it had different power specs. The official Nintendo adapter provided 3.25 amps]The GameCube has some hidden tricks included in its startup sequence: holding the "Z" Button while the system boots will replace the normal xylophone musical sequence with squeaks, followed at the end by a child laughing. If you have four controllers plugged in and hold the "Z" button on all of them, you will hear sounds of a Japanese-style drum sequence ending with a traditional Japanese gong.
I know for a fact that the first alternate startup sequence is true. Me and my bro have done that before. I'll have to check and see if the other is true when I get home. :) I like little useless tidbits like that.

Yeah, I've done the Z button trick all the time.
Third party malfunctions? Makes sense. I got a Madcat controller for my birthday or something. A couple months in the darned A button quit working. >_>

Just so we know when we can get our own (I hope). >_>

EDIT: Looks like "Super Paper Mario" is skipping GC and going straight to Wii.

Guess there's no more GC games for me to get (except RE4, which I'll get later), so now I can jump straight into the Wii. =D

Price, launch date, and a few other details have been revealed:

IGN wrote:September 13, 2006 - According to an article at the Seattle PI that is reporting on an article in the New York Times, Nintendo plans to announce the Wii will debut in North and South America on November 19 for $250.

Thursday's announcement should also reveal that Nintendo plans to provide gamers with more than 25 new titles for the Wii this year.

The NYT reports that every Wii will include Wii Sports. Additional games for the Wii are reportedly priced at $50 each. About 30 classic downloadable Virtual Console games should be available this year and will cost about $5-$10 each.

The Wii will also include a "Photo Channel" which will allow users to use their Wii to share digital photos via their television. In addition there will be news and weather channels.

The question is, how many of those will make it to America?

And oh boy, Wii Sports is included! It'll make a great coaster since I will never ever play it.

Hey it'll be something to play until I can save up enough for Zelda (all my current funds will be depleted by the system itself.)
I was hoping for 200 bucks, but 250 really isn't bad at all, so I'm not complaining ^^;

Looking at the DS, I'd say a good many.

Well, if they sold it seperately, I doubt many people would buy it. At least, this is the only way I would ever play the game. So it makes sense, however, they should've also thrown in an extra controller.... you know, because of that whole ad campaign they have had that it's not about just "me" or "you", but "Wii". *shrugs*

Oh, a good many to be sure, but I doubt we're going to see say, the Crayon Shin-Chan game. All I know is, as long as One Piece gets over here, even with the dub voice acting (which I can't talk about >.>), I will be happy.

I really wonder what Nintendo thinks they are gaining by releasing it in the US two weeks before Japan?

Americas: Nov. 19

Japan: Dec. 2

I suppose that it's not like Japan won't be devoured by Wii sales, but it just seems odd that they keep on releasing consoles in the US before Japan.

Also, did anyone notice that buying an extra controller is gonna cost 60$? And I thought that paying 50$ for an xbox 360 controller was expensive.... :(

*Edit*

According to Perrin Kaplan, Wii is region free!

http://blog.wired.com/games/index.blog?entry_id=1556591

"While there may be a region lock that third-party publishers can choose to turn on, Nintendo seems to be setting the standard by making its own first-party games region free."
"It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things."

Yeah, sad that there's only one controller (or is there...?). Though each controller should mean Wiimote + Nunchuck, right? Does make the $60 price tag make a bit more sense.

Dude, Region free. No need to wait for the One Piece one to come, I'm gonna freakin' import it now. XD

Yeah, $60 is for both. $40 for the Wii-mote and $20 for the nunchuck.

I'm interested in knowing just how much Wii Sports has on it (seeing as it's coming with the systems). I'm thinking I'll be nabbing Zelda wheneven I manage to get mine.

Five games on WiiSports: Tennis, baseball, golf, boxing and bowling. I was kind of hoping that they'd go ahead and include the airplane and orchestra games that they had shown off earlier, but no such luck.

Ah well. Still, seems like enough for at least some good multiplayer bouts (you can bet I'll probably play the tennis and boxing ones to death; whenever I'm not playing Zelda, of course XD ).

I so want to hook one of these up to the projector at our church, get four controllers, and have everyone stand on stage to play. That would rock.
