]Stick Monkey Chronicles

Art. When you think of it, what comes to mind? Is it Music? Drawing? Painting? Well those are all fine examples of art, but for me, art is so much, more.

When I think of art, I think of, "Passion." That drive that just keeps me going as I draw. I don't think of art as work, because the passion that I feel for art is enough. The satisfaction of a project completed, and completed brilliantly just makes my heart pound faster.

I am Brendan Thomas and I am an artist. This story is about--Wow, your smart. Yes, it is about Art. About something extraordinary that happened to me, that completely inspired me to strive on! To never lose the "Heart of the Artist" beating within me.

I caution you that wierdness is present and accounted for throughout this entire narration. Be prepared something so wierd and strange has happened in the past few hours that I can not even begin to describe to anyone unless I use words. And as I write this funny tiny monkey is watching my every move. But it isn't an ordinary monkey. It unlike anything I have ever seen before... The only way I can describe this is to call it a, "Stick Monkey." Hey, I told you this was wierd, now let me tell you how this happened...
This is the TRUE Account of: The Stick Monkey Chronicles.

Entry One: The Pieces Come Together

It all began a couple of days ago, I had just come home from a totally awesome day at High School. On the way home I found a pencil on the ground. It was of a very unique build, and one that I couldn't wait to try out! So, I was happy to sit down and get to work on a character I had been thinking of drawing for weeks! I drew the head first, A monkey head. Then I drew it's body and it looked like a stick man, only with a monkey head and a tail. I smiled the pencil worked really well! Never before had I seen such a clear sketch.

I quickly titled the paper with the words, "Stick Monkey." and put the pencil away and laid down on my bed to take a short nap. I had been up so late the night before that I desperately needed it!

The next minute I knew, my alarm was blaring and I jumped awake. The clock said Seven O'Clock. I sighed, I hadn't meant to sleep THAT much. I walked over to my desk to draw some more when I found that the paper I had used was blank! BLANK I had just drawn on it a few hours ago. I thought it might have been a dream, until my pencil holder was knocked over.

My eyes widend and I rubbed them many times. For, right in front of me was the tiny monkey I had drawn. It was looking right at me with the same eyes that I had drawn on him. I jumped back.

"What are you?!" I asked it. To my stupor, it began laughing hard.

"Stick Monkey is Stick Monkey!" He replied and jumped on my shoulder. I froze and stared at it as it looked at me.

"W-Where did you come from, little dude?" I asked, not believeing that this was real. "You have to be a dream!"

"Nope! Stick Monkey is not a dream!" It replied and jumped down on me desk and mock bowed. "I came from you! PAPA!"

"PAPA?!" Boy, was I surprised! I wasn't even dating anyone and this thing was calling me, "Papa." This thing wasn't even human! IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ON A PIECE OF PAPER!

"Ok, I drew you..but why are you like..moving?" I asked.

To my dismay, the stick monkey shrugged, "Stick Monkey doesn't know that answer!" It said as it took out a piece of paper and began folding it into a tiny hat. I sighed and sat down on my bed and watched it.

"So why are you here?" I asked it.

The stick monkey looked up at me and shrugged and placed the hat on it's head. I fell back on my bed.

"This is going to be interesting. How am I going to explain this to dad?" I asked myself. Suddenly the stick monkey jumped on my stomach.

"HAHA! Don't tell your dad then!" It said as it started to dance. "Stick Monkey small! He won't see Stick Monkey!" I sat up and stared at the Monkey who was dancing on my stomach, and then I picked him up and stared at him.

"I can't believe this is real. I mean, that is a lot to admit. I am usually one to believe things like this." I told it as I set him down and looked up at the Cieling and closed my eyes, "This has to be a dream." I said to myself as I tried to go back to sleep.

The next thing I know, my eyelids are being pulled on, "WAKEY WAKE!" Stick Monkey calls out.

"OW!" I cry out in pain as I sit up and look at the monkey who is just smiling at me.

"STICK MONKEY IS NOT A DREAM!" It screams at me and then flips in the air and crosses it's arms.

I cover my ears, for a creature without any lungs this guy could shout pretty loud. "OKAY! I get it!" I call out. "You're real but what am I going to do with you?"

To my amazement, the Stick monkey grabbed a pillow and laid down and placed his arms behind his head and crossed his legs. "HI ROOMIE!" it said to me and closed his eyes.

I fall back and stare at the sleeping monkey, "What have I gotten myself into? How did this happen?" I ask myself. Little did I know, that these answers will soon be revealed.

Flight from the lives we once faced

ANNNNNNNNNNNNNNND AFTER MONTHS...AND Months..AND MORE MONTHS!! STICK MONKEY RETURNS FOR THE HIGHLY (well maybe medium) ANTICIPATED...THE STICK MONKEY CHRONICLES..SECOND CHAPTER!!! HEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRE WE GOOOOOOOOOO!!!)

Chapter DEUX!

After a few minutes of Staring up at my painting Ceiling tiles. I sat up with an idea.

"I Know how I can get rid of you!" I thought a loud with excitement. Unfortunately, The Stick Monkey heard. I figured if I could find the pencil I drew him with, and erased it, my problems would be solved!

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN...'GET RID OF Stick Monkey?" He shouted as he jumped to his feet. "Stick Monkey HERE TO STAY!" He growled and crossed his thin arms.

I sighed. "Look, little guy, you are cute and all, but... I don't have time for you right now, I mean I got all these comics to draw, paintings to paint. The life of an artist isn't easy, and I don't need distractions."

I then turned to the table and looked for that stupid pencil that I had picked up. No wonder it was so strange looking! As I remembered drawing the stick monkey, the lead did look slightly strange...

As I reached the table, I found, to my horror, that the pencil had disappeared. I frantically tried to push aside my pencil holder and look through it. Slamming it down, I turned to Stick Monkey ready to yell at him to give it back.

But what I saw stopped me in my tracks. Before me was this small creature, whose eyes were as big as saucers. NO JOKE! His eyes were huge...and so were the tears pouring, that's right POURING, not dripping...out of his eyes.

"Hey..hey! What's wrong..stop crying little guy!" He begged as I tried to sit on my bed but jumped up in surprise as I sat in a puddle of tears.

"You..don't...like...MEEEEEEEEE" Stick Monkey whimpered.

I gulped. "Well, it's not like I hate you or anything..."

"PAPA HATES HIS SONNN!" He continued clearly, not hearing a word I said.

"I never said that....stop crying, Stick Monkey. Please? You can stay..just please...stop crying." I wondered what sort of Pandora's box I was opening now, but I felt sorry for this creature.

Then, to my utter amazement...the crying stopped...and all was quiet..It was like he had disappeared.

"PAPA CALLED STICK MONKEY 'STICK MONKEY!' YOU KNOW ME NOW!!!" He said happily.

A force that I wasn't expecting from this little guy suddenly knocked me over and I landed against my wall with an "oompf." The Stick Monkey was hugging me! VERY tightly!

"I knew you loved me!" Stick Monkey said happily. "Stick Monkey have a home now!" he giggled and smiled at me.

I smiled back and sat up as I held the crazy creature. "I dunno why I changed my mind, and I hope you don't do anything that makes me go insane..."I began. "But...I figure you would be an awesome model for my comic series...whatdya say?"

Stick Monkey's eyes lit up and once again his eyes were as big as saucers. He lunged forward and hugged me again, I chocked and coughed but he didn't seem to mind.

"YEAH! STICK MONKEY LOVE TO BE IN PAPA'S COMICS!" He said with a giggle. "WE gonna have fun, won't we papa?" He asked.

I smiled, "Yeah...lotsa fun..."

At the time, I didn't know how complicated things would be getting....

CHAPTER THREE! WHEE!

As the night wore on, I found myself fascinated with my new creation. But it wasn't because he was here, and real. It was because his appetite was ginormous! Never before had I seen anything that small eat so much fruit.

"buurb" Stick Monkey exclaimed and covered his mouth and looked around. "Full." he said as he fell back and curled up on my pillow.

"Where do you keep it all little dude?" I mumbled as I laid down next to him. To my amazement he was already snoring. I too closed my eyes and concentrated on going to sleep.

It was about 3 hours later when I realized there was no way I could sleep that night. My mind was drowning in ideas that just wouldn't stop flowing! What was I gonna do with a small creature that could get lost. Or worse! I have a cat! Don't cats love small tiny things? I looked over at Stick Monkey who was still fast asleep. He looked so peaceful and innocent. Could I really leave him to be eaten by a furry feline?

A mental picture entered my head with Stick Monkey's tail hanging out of Peoni's mouth. I shivered and placed my head in my hand.

Suddenly, I had an idea! What if I took the little dude to school? He was small and if I asked him too I am sure he could look like a simply keychain or something. A smile spread across my face. I could see all the cute girls swarming me and telling me how cute I was for having such an adorable keychain.

A clatter awoke me from my ridiculous daydream and I jumped. Stick Monkey jumped too and sat up and rubbed his eyes. "Mmm...what happened, Papa?" He asked.

I turned and faced him. "I have no clue Stick Monkey..." I said as I turned and tucked a blanket around him. "I'll go check it out...you stay here, alright?" I asked.

"Okie, papa." He said as he turned over and closed his eyes.

I smiled. No doubt this would be chick magnet for sure! Girls loved cute things! I laughed to myself as I existed my room and peaked out.

"Mew." said Peony softly. I looked down and she looked innocently up at me. But it was clear she had knocked something off the night stand.

I sighed stumbled in the dark and picked it up. As I did a lump welled in my throat. It was a picture of my family and I. A mom, a sister and of course my dad. My mom and sister left us a few years ago. My dad hasn't been the same.

I wiped a single tear from my eye. And set the memory filled photo on the nightstand, fed Peony a small amount of food, since she seemed apologetic, and returned to my room.

Finally, sleep and I met again and I was lost in my own dreams.

CHAPTER FOUR!

That night I hardly dreamed. But I knew that I needed the sleep, sleep that was interupted by a small voice screaming, "PAPA PAPA PAPAA!!" in my ear.

I remember sitting up with a start and looking down and seeing the small Stick Monkey smiling happy at me.

"Good Morn--"

"AHHHH!!" I exclaimed as jumped out of bed. "Who...What...?" I stopped myself from yelling anymore, the memories were quickly returning to me. That, and the small little creature was now hiding under the small blanket I had placed upon him, and shivering.

"So..sorry.." He said sadly. "I am really..really sorry!" He said as he whimpered.

I sighed. "That's ok, little dude. I just, forgot about yesterday. That's all.." I smiled weakly.

Stick Monkey looked up with a smile. "OK!" he said as he glomped me and squeezed me like he did last time. When I started coughing he let me go.

"So...what are we gonna do today?" He asked. "I can't wait do something with you, Pa-PA!"

My heart melted at his cuteness. (YES! I am a guy! I can like some cute things! That's allowed! Geez...)

"Today, Stick Monkey..." I said as I pulled my night shirt over my head and put on a shirt that I had designed myself, a black and white shirt with varied zippers and buttons everywhere, on. "We are going to school." I said as I finished getting dressed.

"OOHWAH! What's school?" He asked.

I smiled at him. "You'll see, now can you put this over your head?" I asked as I held out a keychain hook that I had taken off my bag.

"OOH! What's that?" He asked excitedly.

"Its...a medallion! All the cool guys like me wear it." I answered with a smile.

He took it from me and put it on. His arms hung out of the circle. And there was no way his huge head could get back over the hole without a struggle.

He jumped off the bed and onto my desk. "Does Stick Monkey look cold?" He asked as he turned around for me.

I laughed and scooped him up and carried him to the bathroom. "See for yourself, little dude!"

His eyes widened. "WOW! I am COLD!" He said happily. "Thanks, Papa!"

"You are cool, Stick Monkey. But...that name you have for me...it's not." I said as he called me papa again. "My name is Brendan...call me that."

"Berend...Brend..Brendy!" He said happily. "is that better?"

I sighed and ran my fingers through my blue and blonde hair. "Um...I guess that's better than papa...we'll work on my name later. Right now...we NEED to get to school."

I took him over to my shoulder bag with a random cartoon character I had painted on it, and stuck him on it. He looked up at me curiously but didn't seem to mind.

In fact, he had a ball on the way to school. He swung himself up and down, and all around while hanging on the keychain. He even made up a little song.

"La, La La. Stick Monkey is coool, just like Brendy! La, La, La. Stick Monkey go school, just like Brendy!"

I laughed at his antics. He was incredably cute. I had so many ideas for my comic idea now.

When I reached the building I looked down at Stick Monkey. "Listen, Stick Monkey. These guys at school. They aren't as cool as you and me. So we can't let them know you can talk. Alright?"

"Hmm..OK!" Stick Monkey replied happily as he raised his arm.

That was easy...I thought as I entered the building.

It was easy... a little TOO easy.

interesting story very odd and charming yet so very original.

kinda makes me think about that book were humans protected 2 dimension while we were protected as the 3 dimension by a 4d denizin.

if u want to believe in it that monkey could be from 2d world lol.

Ohhh I am actually updating!! Don't know how long it will be, as I only have an idea as to how this chapter will go...
Chapter Five PT1

I sighed as I took my seat in my first hour class, which just happened to be journalism. Yesterday, when I left I wasn't in the greatest of spirits. You see, my last few comics have been...welll....let's just say, I have been in an art slump and the last few months haven't shown my best abilities as a cartoonist.

In fact, my teacher has been getting complaints that my strips were too confusing and hard to understand. As she told me this news yesterday I couldn't help but get depressed. I work hard on my work...and I have never heard such negative feedback. She even showed me all the "letters to the editor" about my stuff.

But, as I looked at Stick Monkey I knew things were going to change! Already, I havd an idea that I thought would make my teacher, my staff mates, and the entier student body regain their confidence in me. I will be a great cartoonist!

Suddenly, I heard giggling behind me. A smile spread across my face. Stick Monkey was doing exactly what I thought he would do. Attract Girls! Which really wasn't the priority here...my priority was making sure he wasn't eaten, and not letting anyone see that he was alive!

"Aww Brendan! He is soo cute!" A girl with brown hair named Kaity cooed. "But...what is it exactly?"

"Yeah! He looks like that one game that we played when we were kids...what was it...oh yeah! Hangman! Her red-haired friend Ali added.

I simply laughed. "Girls, this is my newest character, and comic concept, Stick Monkey...cool, huh? I guess I liked him somuch I decided to take him with me....

"Really?" Ali asked as she took her seat across the aisle from me; Kaity took her seat right in front of her. Both of them seemed intrigued.

I took a deep breath. It was obvious that they wanted to know more. Did I mention that they were both co-editors to our paper, the Blue Post? Well, they are!

Soon class began and while my staff mates laid down the necassary components of our paper, I began to sketch out a six panel comic strip.

"It will be called..."The Adventures of Stick Monkey" I said to myself as wrote the title down and began to sketch the little guy walking in the school hallway with his backpack on his slim little shoulders.

Suddenly, I felt a tap on my shoulder and I jumped. Stick Monkey was sitting on my shoulder looking rather uncomfortable...

"Stick Monkey..." I whispered. "WHAT are you doing on my shoulder, little guy?"

He seemed to whimper as he fidgeted anxiously.

"Stick Monkey...." He whispered back and looked around. "Stick Monkey has to go!"

"Go?" I asked a bit clueless...suddenly it dawned on me... he had eaten quite a few bananas.. "OH! GO!" I whispered loudly... loud enough for my classmates to hear me...

They looked up and stared...they knew I was a bit 'out there' with my excitement for the arts...but to suddenly shout out loudly like that for no reason...it's no wonder they gave me looks as though I were possessed or something.

My teacher, Mrs. Hughes took her glasses off her head and placed them over her eyes and then pulled them down and gave me, "the look." You know, when a teacher is getting annoyed and they want you to knock off whatever antics you just happen to be doing... yeah... THAT look!

I cleared my throat nervously and looked around trying to save myself from getting attention, or worse... "Go...GO Fellow Staff mates!! The paper looks great!!" He continued with a laugh and took my seat quickly. Luckily they seemed to understand and they even smiled at me as they got back to work.

It seems I forgot about Stick Monkey, as I rested my head on the desk and seemed to bang it up down lightly; because suddenly, I felt a rather hard tap on my shoulder.
"Brendy!" he whsipered. "I reaaaally gotta go!" I looked up and nodded. "One sec."

I stood up and walked over to Mrs. Hughes' desk and cleared my throat. I asked her if I could go. she looked at me plainly and the nodded. "Go... but hurry, you've got a cartoon to finish."

I nodded and grabbed Stick Monkey on my way out. When we reached the restroom I set him down on the edge of one of the tiolets..

"Okay..so..um.." He looked around. "Don't fall in! okay?"

Stick Monkey gulped and looked down. "Waah...it's so deep!!" He whimpered.

He cleared my throat. "It...is?" I asked nervously. "Well...just do you best!"

Stick Monkey bit his lip and looked up at me. "Mmkay..." U closed the stall and walked to the sink to wash my hands when suddenly. I heard a "KERPLUNK and a SPLASH..." I sighed as those sounds were followed by a "Waah!! Brendy?"

I shook my head with a chuckle and walked over and pushed the door open. "You fell in, huh?" I asked trying not to laugh at the site of the small monkey trying his best to climb out of the toilet but suddenly fell back in.

"Umm.. yeah..." He said sadly as he looked up at me with pleading eyes.

I took a step back and ran my fingers through my hair. "Alright...hang on.." I walked back to the sink and grabbed some paper towels. Thankfully, there were no other people in here...but I had to work fast, someone might decide to come any second..

I quickly plucked Stick Monkey from his water prison and took him to the sink where I turned some warm water on.

"Are you alright?" I asked as I held him and waited for the sink to fill up.

Stick Monkey nodded with a sniff, "Y-Yeah...Brendy?"

"Yeah?"

"I don't have to go anymore..." He said with a relieved voice. I stared at him with a shocked expression..."O-Okay.." I said uncomfortably.

when I saw that the water was high enough I set him inside it and proceeded to pile on the hand soap on his tiny body. It was a strange feeling, but was this what dads had to go through with their own kids? Was Stick Monkey really a Home Ec class gone awry? I had to laugh at this thought, and also because Stick Monkey was splashing the water and pretending that he was an old man with the soap suds.

"Careful, 'old man." I said with a chuckle. "You might break something.."

Stick Monkey looked up at me and smiled. "Naah.. I won't!" Suddenly he got a mischievious grin on his face and duck himself underwater. Without a moment to think, he suddenly sprang back up with full cheeks.

"No..Stick Monkey..don't..." I pleaded. Suddenly with a "PFFT!" My shirt and face were drenched with soapy water.

"Ugh..." I said as I stepped back and grabbed a paper towel. "Alright out of the tub..." I said as I hit the drain knob while wiping my face.

Suddenly, I heard an "AAAH" sound and I looked up. Stick Monkey was halfway in the drain pipe with only his head and one arm hanging out. "BRENDY SAVE ME!!" He cried.

What was this thing? A walking accident?
I sighed and pulled him out. "There, there it's alright! Nothing can harm you know little guy." I said with a smile as I grabbed a paper towel and dried him off.

I poked his teeny nose and smiled. "See, all better, right?"

"MMhMM!!" Stick Monkey cried out happily.

Suddenly, I heard the doors bang open. This was my cue to grab Stick Monkey and run.

When I got back to class my teacher glared at me. "Did you fall in?" She asked annoyed. I winced and shrugged.

"You...could say that." I answered.

"Get to work, Brendan..." She said and went to help a student with a page..

"Yes, Ma'am..." I said and sat down to work on my comic.

"I am going to be a cartoonist.. I am going to be great." I told myself.

Entry Six: Which Way Did he Go?

As the day wore on, I continued my routine: After Journalism, I had algebra. This is a class that I am utterly horrible at. I guess I will chalk it up to the fact that the right side of my brain is the pilot, while the co-pilot left side is asleep at the wheel. I guess I can’t be the best at everything after all. I saw an empty desk at the back of the room and took it. It was probably better this way, incase Stick Monkey sneezed or something. I set the bag on the floor and looked around.
“Papa!…bag is heavy!â€
