hmm...well, i'm pretty sure the last thread about this was awhile back. If not, the mods can take their modtastic wrath out on my thread. Meantime though, i'm going ahead as planned.
Anyways, who else is fond of the anime Honey & Clover. I'm watching the fansub right now & am strangely impressed. I couldn't figure out why I see the series getting such high ratings when it seems like another typical anime. however, watching it i'm starting to understand. The show is SO funny at times. And so sad. And sweet. And cute. And very very odd(the opening credits are psychotic, imo).
and yes..i'm thinking disjointedly because of H&C awesomeness(plus lack of sleep). I'm only 10 episodes in thus far, but hopefully finishing this week.
SO....favourite moments, lines, characters? Or if you just want to add an opinion on the show or gush over Hana, feel free.

I haven't gotten very far in this series yet, but I loved what I had seen! Morita-san is my favorite so far, though. XDD I seriously need to finish watching this series.

These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.
Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.
But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. I haven't finished H&C -- I tend to lock up my viewing toward the end of series, and don't always finish them. I realize this seems kinda dumb, but I almost always do. Last episode I saw was ... I think 20.
Morita is my favorite character by a long shot.
I hated the first OP, but the new animation in the second OP is great.

Special L and Special F are what you're looking for, the trivia page has this about them:
The last 2 episodes of Honey and Clover are unrelated to the main plot and do not continue the story. The first special episode, released on H&C Region 2 DVD Vol. 5 as Chapter L, covers the story of Lohmeyer/Romaiya-sempai aka Ham-Guy, who appeared early in the manga, but was not featured in the main anime. The second special episode, Chapter F, which will be released on DVD Vol. 7, features Fujiwara Design, the company where Takumi Mayama formerly works at.
and just a reminder, Honey & Clover II starts on the 29th.

Concerning the show itself, I was slightly disappointed by some changes in character design and atmosphere. This season, from an animation stand point, has more of a Paradise Kiss feel to me than a Honey and Clover feel. I'm sure I'll get used to it, but it still makes me sad. I know a lot of people are recieving the new elements very warmly, saying that the show is more realistic now (One site I read mentioned that Yamada looks much more Asian now and less like a California Girl than she did last season.)

I heard about Honey and Clover 2 and a live action of the first one but I haven't seen any of the new episodes.
If he's there in HC2 I would love to see more of Nomiya-san. He is one of the more interesting characters. I'm still not sure about him.

I laughed for like 5 minutes straight after that scene. Then I had to go and watch it several more times while I continued to laugh. Those unicorns are incredibly hilarious, although wow do they swear a lot. o_o And yes I wouldn't mind having my own fleet of unicorns too!

Really, Paradise Kiss? Hummm... can you name a particular scene? Personally I didn't think the animtion was all that different (well I can see how the ending song is very Paradise Kiss-like).
I don't think Yamada can possibly be very Asian looking with blue eyes and red/orange hair. I don't know what those people are talking about.

You know I am a HUGE Nomiya+Yamada fan but after watching episode 2 of this new season I couldn't help but think that Morita and Yamada would make a good couple. I don't think they are interested in each other that way, but Morita understands Yamada so well and he's always watching out for her, even in the first season. Well I don't think it would ever happen (and I don't want it to happen because I like Nomiya) but it's an interesting possibility.
Oh and muskrat in case you didn't guess from the above post, yes Nomiya is in this new season (episode 3). He's my favorite character so I'm really happy he's in there, and he has a ton more lines then they first season.

Keep in mind that I couldn't stomache more than three or four episodes of ParaKiss due to the sexuality issues the show had. However, the scene in H&C that caused me to make this comparison was the one in the second episode where hagu is running from Nomiya. The cartoony background and distored path looked a lot like something you'd see in ParaKiss. Overall, I just finished the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, and I think I'm just a little spoiled right now. XD

Ok now that you say that I think I know what you are talking about. You're right they have changed the style a bit (to be more abstract and Paradise Kiss like). Although H&C 1 did have some moments of wierd animation. Ex: "Mayma you look like a Shoujo character!" XD That was in... episode L I think.
I agree with you about Paradise Kiss. That show had the potential to be interesting but then they totally ruined it with all the sex scenes. They better not make the animation more like Paradise Kiss. I was NOT a fan of that style.

Yup, I love Nomiya. He was so cute in episode 3! Based on the preview I don't think he will be in episode 4 though. Well I can't wait to see how Yamada has recovered. XD That was hilarious when she was on the train and was freaking out with that little "Please wait" sign by her head.

Ahh I think you meant Morita not Nomiya.
They would make for an interesting couple. I think Yamada is one of the few people Morita actually shows his serious/deep side to. And Yamada seems to really value his opinion and value him as a friend. That probably is partly because they have known each other for for a few years, and they both like someone they can't be with so they can relate. So unfortunatley I think I think the probability of them ending up together is like 1 in 1000000000. Well that's ok I guess. If Yamada ends up with Mayma though I'm going to be ticked off!

Oh you'll like episode 3 trust me. It is hilarious! I didn't really like the C1 anime sub version as much as the Solar one though. They translated what the unicorns said very differently and those guys are like the best part *pouts*
The animation in the second season is definately different from the first one though. I rewatched parts of episodes L and F last night and I finally noticed the difference.
This second season seems to have a lot of scenes where the characters become very cartoon looking, then after that scene is over, they go back to the normal look that is what the first season was like. I wonder why they decided to do that.

1) They do have a different director this time around. I think actually he MIGHT be the guy who directed ParaKiss. That could explain somethings.
2) They might have a smaller budget this time around. From what I understand, the first season had a pretty large budget because the station was really trying to get its new "noitamina" block, aimed at adult woman, established.

XD Oh gosh I loved the third ep! Nomiya and Yamada is one of my favorite pairings so I was very happy. I'm really only echoing everyone else here, but... Ha, the unicorns were great! And at the very end when Yamada is shoveling all the rice into her mouth! XDD
I watched c1anime's version for the first season and the specials, and I'm one of those people that likes to stay with the same group for the whole thing... was Solar's version really better though? I'll have to check that out.

I love C1 too! Really the only difference between their version and Solar is that Solar kept in all the swearing the unicorns do... okay maybe that isn't a good reason to prefer their version. XD There were a few other things that Solar did (like how they translated the dog, Leader's, thoughts and that sort of thing. Really you're probably better off staying with C1.
I have to admit I'm curious to see what happens with Mayma and ... that lady... what's her face... yeah her. And I am VERY curious to find out what Morita and his brother were talking about. What do they need all this money for? What are they planning? Is there Father some famous artist?

I really hope Morita ends up with Hagu. I don't like Takemoto that much.. just something about his character is annoying to me.

Really? I'd agree that I really don't like Takemoto that much either. He's too prone to suddenly ramble off into monologues that are incredibly boring and pointless. I don't know if Morita would be good for Hagu though. I think she would die from an early age from the stress. I just downloaded it, and I haven't watched it yet. But last week's trailer was enough to give me a BIG suspicion on what was going to happen. Let me just guess [spoiler]Rika and Mayama end up in bed together. That little sicko.[/spoiler]
And yes, let me just chime in and say that I, too, am not that fond of Takemoto. Admittedly, he's a better character now than he was at the beginnning of last season, but I still don't really want him to end up with Hagu. Personally, I'm either a HaguxMorita or YamadaxMorita person. I think geniuses like Hagu, Morita, and Yamada all have this certain element of themselves that only other genius' can understand. I say this because I have a few artist friends who just. . . confuzzle me. Morita and Hagu-chan need eachother, IMHO.

[spoiler= Episode four of season II of Honey and Clover. Don't read UNLESS you've seen episode four.] atleast the sex was dealt with tastefully. Yes, we know it happened, but it was one shot that was non-explicite in nature.
Also, I find Mayama's stalkerishness. . . disturbing. I understand that he is very worried for her, and, obviously, with good cause, but the child has no business snooping around in that woman's private documents. And he put an alarm on her purse? Where does he get off doing that!? BAKA! Argh. Of course, I basically figured it would come to this in his relationship with Rika. Comments he's made in the past concerning her made it clear he's was capable of seducing her in that way.
But I'm still mad. Urgh.

Oh yes, Mayama = stalker. Actually... doesn't one of the other characters say that in one of the extra episodes??? He would so qualify for a restraining order!
Well after all those episodes about "finding himself" I secretly hoping that Takemoto would die or at least leave the series. But he's not nearly as annoying in this season. I'm not sure who should end up with Hagu. I think Morita made the decision to pick money over Hagu in the first series, although that doesn't seem to stop him from talking to her, so things could get interesting!
Actually I think it's amazing how Hagu has matured! She can speak in complete sentences now (when she doesn't have the hicups).
I'm still excited about next week's episode with Nomiya. I think he's a bit of a artist genius too, since he's one of the head people in his company and he's still really young.

I forgot about that part!
That actually wasn't even the scene I was thinking of. It was in the Special F episode when Hanamato Sensei was playing Shogi with Mayama and he thinks: "Since he's working with Rika again, the energy and time he used for stalking her has been devoted to Shogi now." When I looked it up to get the quote I noticed he actually says "stalking" in English!
