I allways thought....

That Avatars should be something more like "your own"...

That means, use your creativity and make one yourself.

Of course, they are all very nice at the page given by Keiya.
but I prefer self made ;)

But, you can also use one you have not made, and it still can show something of "you" because you liked it and choose it...

Anyway... God bless :thumb:

Sadly many people aren't up to the challenge of making their own.

I used to use Ein from Cowboy Beebop till I hacked together Phil from Ubersoft into an Avatar to use (Phil is a programmer for Ubersoft, found it kind of fitting since programming is what I want to switch to, and he kinda looks like me, but skinnier, and cooler ;) )

As I get time and whatnot I want to keep doodling some here and ther, maybe take a few drawing/art courses... I'm hoping to get to the point where I'm happy enough with my abilities to do a Manga/Anime version of myself (maybe even Chibi)... but till then "Phil" will do for now.

Since I lack both good photo editing software and the skill to use it, I have to stick with pre-made avatars.

My favorite site for avatars is: http://www.egs-avatars.com/home.php

They have a ton of avatars, including video game, anime, fantasy, and movie avatars.

I got mine from http://www.animegifs.org

Great site, but I checked out that site you said, and I loved the 8 bit theater version of Dead Ale wives Dungeons and Dragons.

I like making my own avatars. I rarely use my own artwork for them, though... I ought to make more of "my own art" avatars...

I like making avatars out of anime and manga pictures, some which I find online, most which I scan from DVD and tape covers, magazine articles, merchandise, ect. For this board I've been using images taken from official Haibane Renmei sources... I have... rotating Haibane going on! (I am "Haibane Shadsie", so the most appropriate images for me to use are of Haibane!)

My first avatar was Rakka... scanned her from the mini-poster that came in the first HR DVD... Stuck her in Photoshop to resize her and add her name in a fun font.

My second avatar was Reki, which was from an image I found online of one of the original manga/doujinshi covers. Same thing...

And my current is Kuu, scanned from the poster in the second HR DVD, modified in Photoshop.

I have Photoshop 5.5 and an Associate-level graphic design education... might as well use them.
