ArrrghPG's...

I was just thinking to myself today that, as far as I am aware, no-one has yet tried to create an RPG, MMO or otherwise, based upon a pirate theme. It just occurred to me that such might prove a successful idea with the only problem I could think of being the lack of an otherworldly bestiary, and otherwordly characters. Still, what with the high soceity, low society, pirates, navies, privateers, jungles, forts, cities, treasures, and whatever else you can think of, I think it could work.

The only other thought which came to me, was a Monkey Island RPG. :)

Any other ideas?

I haven't played it, but didn't Skies of Arcadia have a theme of piracy to it? I might be totally mistaken, but...

Oh, and there are actually 3 MMORPG games based on this theme currently in development.

Skies of Arcadia does have a heavy pirate theme to it. Granted, they are air pirates....but pirates nontheless.
That's one RPG that really deserves a sequel. Ship-on-ship battles were fun and you even get to recruit a crew.

Uncharted Waters Online is the one I'm most interested in (as a fan of the Uncharted Waters games)

Pirates of the Burning Sea has a beta, and seems to be closest to actual completion.

Pirates of the Carribean Online will probably be a disaster.

I remember seeing a pirate-based MMO somewhere... *searches...*

Lol, nevermind. I don't think this is what you had in mind, but you can still check out Puzzle Pirates.
