Well, I haven't seen most of the others, so I can't really comment on those either...
Though I do wonder when anime went from being "entertainment" to... whatever "otaku" consider it... *shrugs*

I watched the first episode yesterday, expecting this really funny comedy. I watched the intro thinking "This is... interesting..."
Through the whole episode, I laughed...
Once. That was it. I actually even predicted alot of the jokes before they happened.
The parts with Chiyo-chan were kinda acute, but overall I wasn't that impressed.

With some of these titles I'm seeing on the Underrated list... the older ones, you might not hear a lot of them NOW, but at the time they were new, they hyped the crap out of them: Kare Kano, Spriggan, Voices of a Distant Star, X/1999, Full Metal Panic... these were all very hyped by the anime magazines long before they came out, and continued to be hyped when they were first being released. If they no longer are hyped it's the hype wore out.

You know, given how many times Inuyasha has appeared in the "Overrated" category in this thread, I am beginning to wonder if by that virtue it loses that distinction. How can it be overrated if it is receiving criticism this widely?

Because those of us who find it overrated are but a small percentage of everyone who has ever watched the show. There are plenty of people who think that the show is absolutely amazing, the best anime ever, etc. It may be receiving wide criticism from the few who have posted in this thread, but compared to the rest of the anime watching population, that's a pretty small number. *nodnod*

<shrug> To be honest, I see people trash the show all the time on this and other forums.
I suppose that maybe I am just missing the legions of fans somehow. It does seem popular.

What determines "Overrated" and "underrated" except one's personal taste? To diverge into criticism because someone might list a title one likes (or doesn't like) or a title gets listed a bunch of times, well is weak. Expected, but weak none the less.
Just because this site might like Fruit Baskets instead of Elfen Lied doesn’t mean Fruit Baskets is over rated (now manga verses anime have a debate on the rating with FB for sure).
To me Ai Yori Aoshi was underrated. But it won’t be back in anime, so the rating it got went straight to the pocket book.
It’s almost too easy to say anything that winds up licensed and broadcast in the US is overrated and any unlicenced anime that can only be obtained through a FanSub is underrated.
I’ve revised my earlier list to reflect that thought:

I'd say that Hamtaro is terribly underrated. Then again, that seems to happen with anything that is sweet and cute and innocent -- so I really shouldn't be surprised. ;__; (Of course, the evidence I have is that I'm the only one that's mentioned it on this thread thus far.)

I would agree that Wolf's Rain and S-cry-ed are under-rated and would include
Witch Hunter Robin with them.The problem is that with the exeption of S-cry-ed
AS isn't showing these shows as much as others and so they're not getting the
audience they deserve.
