This anime looks so cool! I love the way Arucard looks! He reminds me of Dante from Devil may cry. I havn't seen any of it yet, but I hope to sometime. I'm 16 so I'll wait a couple years or so to check it out.

What do you mean by "Because God isn't in Earth, he can't see what Alucard's doing."? God sees, hears, and knows everything. How can it be a taunt? It says "Jesus Christ is in Heaven now." That seems like he's speaking of the ascension.

I doubt the creators of the series are able to put that much theology into their anime...or even know that much. when it comes to the portrayal of Christianity it is pretty confused.

i do however like vampire stories and have seen all of Hellsing. it seems like it was cut short and as such i feel the story begins to drop stuff and rush the 'absolutes' of the storyline to finish the series in 13 episodes. (and 13 was not enough).

I love Hellsing, but I do agree that it is for more mature audiences. The violence can get pretty rough.

I had a friend cosplay as Alucard. He even had the guns (gotta love what they do with plastic nowadays).

I've seen Hellsing, albiet as a gift from a friend who gave me her fansub, and the fansubbing in it was iffy... bad spelling at certain points, but I was still able to understand the story. I've gotten a deeper understanding of the story after reading the first English release manga volume, and stuff online.

I've heard that there is or will be a second season of Hellsing in Japan - which is why the Hellsing we have here cuts off so at the end. What I've read about the manga online, the story goes on from the Incognito thing... what is behind the creation of Freaks is a group called Millienium, a Nazi resurgence group that is trying to ressurect the Third Reich. They do experiments and create the Freak vampires to help them in going about their goals. The Nazi stuff didnt' appear in the anime (at least not in the first season), but is in later volumes of the manga.

Alucard, as far as I know, is NOT a Christian. Not in the least. He's evil. He's actually supposed to be Dracula (Alucard/Dracula), and he is bonded to the Hellsing family by magic and some such things, back from when Integra's ansestor, Sir Helsing (a figure of English legend) bonded Alucard to himself and the family. Alucard has been "souped up" by various things of magic and science to be the Hellsing organization's weapon. They are basically using fire to fight fire, a vampire to fight vampires. The Hellsing oraganization, however, IS supposed to be Christian (though it's a bit twisted). Integra Hellsing and her group are sworn to protect the English crown and the Protestant church. They just use an evil being (Alucard) to fight evil beings.

Hellsing has a rival organization in the Vatican's Section 13, the Iscariot organization. They're an organization that fights vampires, ghouls, and oppresses pagans and those opposed to the Catholic church. They're against Hellsing because Hellsing is Protestant. Their main "weapon" is a psychotic priest named Anderson. (Besides Integra, he's my favorite Hellsing character. He's just... so psycho!).

I was talking to a friend about what the sigils on Anderson's gloves mean and what the writing on Alucard's gloves mean... and why the heck a Catholic/Christian organization would be named Iscariot (after Judas Iscariot, the betrayer).

According the the manga... the reason for "Iscariot" is pretty cool... They are the part of the Vatican/official Catholic church that isn't supposed to exist. They are a covert organization that betrays the values of Catholocism in order to protect it - that is why they are "Iscariot", they are betrayers.

According to my friend... the "Jesus Christ is in Heaven" thing on Alucard's gun and on Anderson's glove probably means "He's in Heaven so he can't see me kicking your butt!" (A false assumption, but a lot of Japanese manga-ka are weird about using Christian symbols and themes in their work). I mean, it's even like that over on this side of the pond... you have authors, artists, and filmakers who use Christian symbols and elements of Christianity without being Christian themselves and they don't have a real understanding of context. (There are Christians in Japan, I'm just saying that most of the population isn't... much like America).

A lot of the twisted Christian symbolism in the story, I think, is like a poking fun a Christianity and religion in general. The series isn't meant to be anti-Christian, it just is a basic "holy people fighting vampires" story like in a lot of horror movies and likes to make fun of its subject material. The story is a horror story peppered with quirky humor. I rather enjoy it, but there are things about it that bother me sometimes.

It is not for eveyone, and I don't even think for most people here. For instance, if Ruroken pokes her head in this topic, I warn her FAR AWAY from this series... You cannot be easily frightened or over easily offended if you want to watch it/read it. It is HORRIBLY VIOLENT, for one thing... very, very bloody, and definitely not for the squeamish. (Personally, I enjoy this aspect a lot. I weirdly... like blood and a certain degree of goriness). When I was watching the first episodes of the series, I was all sitting in my chair, kicking my feet in delight and thinking "BLOOOOOOOOOOD!" But, I'm weird, so don't mind me...

So, yeah, not for everyone, I warn most Christians away from it (only watch it if you can put aside the twisted symbolism and the Protestants and Catholics out to kill each other while they kill ghouls and vampires), and it's definitely for mature audiences only. Don't show this one to the kiddies. There's my input.

Hellsing was to offensive for me to even finish it. Once I got past episode 8, the rest went in the recycle bin. The violence, extreme use of the F word and other swears, and the sexual innuendos were too much for me to watch it and keep a clear conscience. It strays faaaaar from what I consider to be a well thought out, good anime

Besides, the anime hadn’t really gotten that far (as far as plot is concerned) by episode 9, I really didn’t see how they would wrap it up in a reasonable, likeable, and plausible ending seeing how it only had 4 episodes to go.

The only thing good about that anime was the opening theme song, but other than that, it was worthless *to me*. When iffy animes come up like this, I usually refer to the verse, "Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy; meditate on these things." Philippians 4:8

XD it's my favorite ever!!!! super [admin snip: watch your language]villains just appeal to me, and Alucard is just that. oh and since we're debating the "slogan" on Jackal...i THINK that "Jesus Christ is in heaven now" is meant to be a slap in the face to the Catholics....in that Catholics use a lot of crucifixes, and the Protestants never show Jesus on the cross anymore, because He rose....and they don't like that about Catholicism...i dunno, i read that somewhere. slap me if i'm wrong...

I liked the series personally. It was short and definately not for the squemish or easily offended, but as a fign=ting and vampire seeries it wsa pretty awesome. Battle scenes were pretty awesome and some of the weapons in the series are just crazy. From personal experiences the manga is just as good if not better. Yet again, I restate, not for those who are squemish or easily offended, but fun for the lightweight horror fans.

Actually it can be spelled both ways due to a linguistic quirk.... R and L are interchangable translating Japanese. Same thing with Fooley Cooley (FLCL), where the name is actually pronounced Furi Kuri in the Japanese.

In certain parts of the world, if you call someone a "Dracula", you're essentially calling someone a... uh... one of the "Seven Deadly Words". I think that's what made me lose my interest in vampires (I used to be real into that stuff... not anymore.).

Alucard is very cool but my favorite character would have to be either Walter or Integra. Anyways...I also recommend young audiences not to see this or anyone for that matter that feels puleld down by this anime or they dont like blood.

Yes, I agree with Hitokiri, a very cool anime. However, if you can't handle heavy violence, blood and other various elements that are contained in a 16+ anime, do not watch. It is one of the animes that deserves the high rating. Quality-wise, it is fantastic.

I prefer werewolf stories more, but for vampire lovers (my son) this is the anime to watch. *heh*

Don't worry about it. We can be wierd together! I was lovin' my five minutes of Ghost in the Shell, which ended with the results of the car chase scene and mom turning it off. I sat there with a big grin, which cause my mom to worry about me. Oh well. That's gonna be the first anime movie I'll go out and by when I turn 16. =)

umm not quiet while i agree the series is one of my favs it is not for all ages specially with the eps with the f-bomb being used like 15 per ep and not to mention the violence (which i think i am already desenstized cuz i don't find it to bad). but anyway the mods don't like gravedigging so watch that in the future anyways have fun on the boards ! \m/ >< \m/ -Grubb

Blades, please don't capitalize each word. It burns some of our eyes and flesh. Hellsing is not for everyone though, as others have mentioned taking offense to various parts. As with anything, check the rating and look into anime before you watch it. (I am a Hellsing fan btw)

wow...this is kinda old...but since it is back up right now I'll just add in the quick note at the end: The Hellsing OVAs are out in Japanese. I watched the first one. It didn't seem quite the same to me...they actually had character changes...like you know...when the char goes from being drawn normally to a weird design due to shock or something (I can't remember what people call this)
