It was that special day. That day when Escaflowne the movie was out in America! I have seen some espoides of Vision of Escaflowne but had never seen the movie. I had missed out on the theater release. So, I bought it on DVD at a local Best Buy. The movie was around an hour and a half long. I found this moive to be an outstanding one. The story was great, a good vs. evil. Romance was just perfect in it too. They went heavy on the blood and killing this time, but it all came together great. If you are familar with the TV series I need to warn you. It has nothing to do with it! This movie was meant to be showed around the world. And if people diden't see the series, they can just watch the movie. Alot of things are diffrent from the series and movie. But, if you ignore that you will love this movie. Now, the music in this movie don't let me get started. I was amazed. I never heard a anime soundtrack being this outstanding. A very good score with chantings of; 'Esca-flowne, Esca-flowne' & more. I would buy the movie only for the music! But really, this movie has everything in it. You shouldn't miss out on this movie.

The Pros: The soundtrack/score is amazing! The best I heard in a anime movie ever. Also, The story was great, character design was good too. A movie everyone can watch and enjoy.

The Cons: They did not focus on all of the characters. They had to many to do that.

Additional Comments: Great film for guys and girls!

Music: The best music in a anime movie yet I have came past.

Sub/Dub: Perfect subed. English dub sounds like a soupoprea done bad!

To be honest I didnt like Escaflowne the Movie and I can honestly say its a vast opinion that it is mediocre at best. The Vision of Escaflowne the TV series is by far the most complete embodiement of anime available, it has absolutelty everything good and its all done well. The movie however is an alternate universe on this and seems a bit lame. Hitomi has gone from a bright spark to a manic depressive wanting to comit suicide, Alan is now a lank haired sad sack, and Van is now an agressive, foul mouthed guy who has no problems with spilling alot of blood.

The other possible cons of this are that there is really NO mecha action, the Escaflowne gets one battle and thats all, and its a night battle which means its hard to see. On the bright side just like the TV series the score is brilliant, though in many places borrowed from the series (like dance of curse), and a plus side is that Merle is more of a fighter and not as annoying.

Honestly, most people would agree this was kinda disapointing, if theyd continues the end of the vision of Escaflowne it could have been good, but it needs more mecha and more romance. Its ok on its own right, but when compared to The Vision of Escaflowne tv series, IMHO its not even close.

I rented this last month, I kinda liked it... not sure if I liked it enough to buy a copy, but it was a good flick. However I should say I've never seen any Escaflowne stuff before this, so I've got nothing to compare it to. Then again, as I've said before, I'm an easy sell for the most part.

Yes, this is actually something I made a note of on the main review in the database (sorry Kenchii). I did point out that there was magic involved at a few different points.

I did like this movie quite a lot. The animation was excellent, and the music even better. However, I've never seen the series, so I couldn't really base it on anything.

It's a good film, but much darker in intent than the original series. I think the producers made it work fairly well as a film, however the contrast between it and the series is jarring. I actually was kind of intrigued by their interpretation of Hitomi's character, and how she changed over the course of the movie.

Actually, it's one of the few anime movies i've taken time to watch....

I watched this movie four years ago from a friend. The details are now blurred to my head.

But I can say that it's one of the best! But for those esca fanatics who watched the TV series it's quite a disappointment to see the characters in a different attitude. Much of those who suffered in characterization is Folken. Tsk. Tsk.

Anyway, what shock me when I first see it was Van's ....um.... savageness?
