Wolf's Rain Lyrics

Postby Fade » Mon Apr 03, 2006 6:16 pm

Alright so I just got my second wolf's rain CD in the mail from Amazon, and I'm looking at the lyrics of "Stray" and "Heaven's Not Enough" and I'm sitting there trying to figure out what the heck they're about.

Meh. I just wondered if any of you would know.
Thanks for your time.

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear. I know the lyrics (I have the CD's) but I was wondering about the respective meanings of the songs. Not the words themselves.

Eh? Umm... they're basically about the wolves' journey?

They're about the wolves. :P

For example, Stray is about Kiba.

Alright that makes sense, stray is kiba's theme song I guess then, you could say?

What about the line itself "Heaven's Not Enough" or "Heaven goodbye" is that referring to the false paradise kiba went to the first time he died, or something else?

I don't think so...parts of Heaven's Not Enough make it sound like it's about Hige and Blue. I'm not sure.

In my opinion, Heaven's Not Enough is about the fact that the Paradise they're all seeking isn't as perfect as they think. For example, according to the latter parts of the series, Blue won't make it to Paradise, and neither will Hubb, Cher, or Quent, since only wolves are allowed in. (I know Blue's a wolf, but she's not pure blood.) Also, I think some of the song is referring to the journey to Paradise, and how it's a long and weary road that they must travel to reach it. So, I suppose I don't think it's from any specific character's point of view. That's just my opinion. (Heaven's Not Enough is my favorite Wolf's Rain song, btw!! :) )

The simplest way that I can understand therapy is that we're born a certain way, we're taught to be something different, and we spend our whole lives trying to unravel it and ultimately align ourselves with who we really are. Life, experiences, traumas -- whatever -- they all add up to make you some altered version of what you are. So there's this battle that goes on between what you are and what you become, and it's been very important for me to unravel what I was taught to be or what I became. and to draw a direct parallel to music -- the closer I get back to being who I really am, the stronger the music gets..." --Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins frontman)

I was under the assumption Wolf's Rain has some Biblical connotation to the search for paradise. (I heard something about the episodes after Moonlight Crucible?)

Obviously I could be wrong about that. Though if I'm not mistaken, then I've been trying to construe the implications of this song (Heaven's not Enough) to be something other than... something to the effect of "The journey to Heaven isn't worth the trouble and sacrifice. This world is better."

Obviously it would be nice to be able to put something other than that into my worldview, if it indeed reflects reality. That's why I was interested in your opinons, seeing as how many *cough* christian anime organizations there are. Despite that, I'd rather figure it out realistically then believe it for emotionally pleasing reasons.

I appreciate any insight. You'll pardon me, I'm incessantly logical. Terrible habit.

No no no no no. Heaven's Not Enough isn't about "The journey to Heaven isn't worth the trouble and sacrifice. This world is better" at all. It's just a sad, depressing song because the wolves are searching for a paradise that they don't know much about, and they're losing so much trying to reach it. "Heaven's not enough IF when you get there, it's just another blue."

It's also about trying to find a paradise besides THE paradise...hence "You think you found it and it loses you". Because several times, the wolves thought they might have found paradise, but it turns out they were wrong.

Did that make any sense?

Yeah, I'm not clear on all the lines meanings yet but that made more sense than the ways I was interpreting it. The "fly away to a higher plane" would seem to fit that also.

Any idea what ep/scene "Heaven's not Enough" is used in in Wolf's Rain? I seem to remember hearing the classical intro to it in a couple places, but not offhand.

In the first episode, and in one of the last episodes when they're close to reaching Paradise.

The only one with lyrics that annoyed me is "Could You Bite The Hand?"; it's not so much that I don't like the lyrics... it's just that they seem out of place, like they belong more in Gungrave than in Wolf's Rain.
"People who sin say this, 'That they had to, to survive.' People who sin say this, 'That it is too late to stop.' That shadow called sin dogs them steadily. Without a word, remorse and agony are repeated, to finally end up at despair. But sinners don't know that if they turn around there is a light, a light that keeps shining on them ever so warmly, a light that will never fade."

I like that song, actually. It's not really about wolves, but I liked it. It was quite a bit like Wolf's Rain, though. It was kinda how the wolves see humans.

OFF-TOPIC KIND OF: I just bought the Wolf's Rain collection with the first CD. I'm on episode 19 and I'm loving it so far. Sadly, I accidently spoiled myself of the last episode on TV quite a while ago... I like Blue and Toboe the best.

NOW ON-TOPIC: I didn't like "could you bite the hand" that much either. It was okay. But everything else on the first CD is awesome. The full versions of "stray" and "Gravity" are great. Now, what else is on the second CD besides "Heaven's Not Enough"? Just curious. :)

Don't get me wrong, it's an awesome piece of music. It's just that it sounds like it belongs in Gungrave. I thought it described Harry's ambition and lust for power almost perfectly.
