Just got this from Toon Zone, which is quite reliable.

Kinda saw this one coming. According to "Anime Explosion", it's considered as one of the best children's movies ever. I would have to agree with that assessment! I'm just suprised that they waited so long to bring it on the air.

It'll be interesting to see how Toonami handles the family bathing scene in the early part of the movie. Now we really get to see how picky the censors really are.

April 13 is a Thursday, so this won't be on Toonami.

Correct, unless it ends up being a cut for time restrictions.

After the "Warriors of the Wind" fiasco a few years back, he stated nobody doing a dub version of his movies can edit them.

However, time cuts are an exception.

More like tick off about what happen with Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind then brilliance!

Nausicaa english dub was released in North America by New World Video in

New World Video thought it wouldn't properly marketed in the United States as it was. They cut big amount of the film and re-wrote the story was released under the name "Warriors of the Wind" and was distributed on VHS by Orion Home Video for several years.

Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli were so horified by the changes made to the movie that Miyazaki to take a hard line on future licenses, requiring that a "no edit" clause be included in all contracts. When Disney was preparing Mononoke for release in North America, Miyazaki sent them an authentic Samurai Sword with a short and simple message "No Cuts."

Don't know if this is true or not, but I've read from a reliable source that One Piece's mangaka is a fan of 4Kids' version, actually.

given this is about Totoro, can anyone tell me if the DVD has a different dub from the original Fox video version and if the subtitles are accurate (the Japanese version had the old dub and dubtitled subs.

and regarding editing I strongly suspect the "time constraints" will require removing some footage that "just coincidentally" will include the bath scene ;)

The DVD as far as I know is the new Disney dub, since it's distributed by Buena Vista. Don't know about the subtitles since I don't have it.

Maybe, but we won't know for sure until it airs.

Lol. I hope that is true just because it paints the current 4Kids discussion in a very different light.

Disney re-translated and dubbed the movie. As a matter of fact, Dakota Fanning plays the older sister in the new dub and the younger sister is played by Dakota's real life younger sister. The first dub by Fox didn't include the original language version but the Disney version does. I imagine that means a more literal translation for the subs, but I really can't speak to that since I don't speak much Japanese.

Guess I'll take a chance on it then... I had the genuine Ghibli DVD (from Kinokuniya, not eBay) but it was dubtitled. Must have been an old one.

Heaven forbid they should continue to play animated movies. I was the least bit shocked or dismayed when I saw Ace Ventura playing.

If you ask me, the only live-action movie they should ever play is Who Framed Roger Rabbit, since that actually has some animation. I'd also say Mary Poppins or Bedknobs and Broomsticks, but let's be realistic. There's no way those'd ever wind up on CN.

I think I might have figured out why Ace Venture and Dumb and Dumber aired/are airing on the channel: simply because there used to be a cartoon based on both of them. Doubt they air it on CN, but it's my best guess.

Both movies have cartoony elements in them, but as much as I like 'em, they shouldn't be on the network.

Actually, only Ace Ventura was turned into a cartoon.
