How was the R.Kenshin DUB?

Ok, the TV series is done by Media Blasters and when I download billingual eps some of the voices are ones I'm not too fond of^^ ADV though does both OVAs and the movie... my friend said she watched the movie of the dub and it was HORRIBLE (according to my friend who's the biggest RuroKen fan I know of). Made Sanosuke sound like a cowboy and different things like that, so I remember...

The TV series voices are very tolerable. I typically only watch subs, but I was watching this series with my brother-in-law and he hates reading the words, so I had to watch it dubbed. It didn't make me want to stab myself with q-tips, if that's what you're asking.

I didn't watch the OVAs dubbed.

I don't care for the dubs or the dub voices, but I have a friend who hates reading subtitles and she lives by the dubs.

I guess it's all a matter of preference.

From a purely objective standpoint, I would say that the Media Blasters dub of the TV series is not bad, and even gets better as the series goes on. By the time the Kyoto arc rolls around, the actors are all fairly comfortable in their roles and it doesn't feel as unnatural as it does in season one.

As for the ADV dub...I'd say that it's very well done for the OVA, despite a couple of mispronounciations on some of the names. However, the dub for the motion picture is terrible. Yahiko sounds much too old for a 10 year old boy, Kaoru's voice doesn't work too well, and...well, it was just kind of a train wreck as far as a dub goes.

Then again, that entire movie was kind of a train wreck. At least the flashback scene where Kenshin and that guy duel in the woods was kind of cool, since we had to sit through it about five hundred times.

I have the DVD of the Fire Requiem part of the Kyoto Arc.It's really good.The special features include outtakes from the Voice Actors.Overall it's a lot more mature in outlook than what was shown on Cartoon Network.

It was ok. The minor characters were a bit flawed but the main characters were pretty solid. I mean - you have Richard Hayworth for Kenshin, Dorothy Meleandrez for Kaoru, Lex Lang for Sanosuke, Wendee Lee for Yahiko Steven Jay Blum for Shishio, and Sparky Thorton for Saitou. All very good and very well-known voice actors.

It was one of the better dubs I have seen. Though, I miss "ororororororororo" and "Jo-chan" in the subbed ^_^

It's been so long since I've actuallywatched Kenshin that I am unsure whether it was good or not. I remember it being good on CN. Whatever it was has kinda been replaced by what I make up when I read the manga.

I really enjoy the Kenshin dub (for the series). There are a few voices that I can't stand, but most are minor characters, and are tolerable for the short time they're around (Senkaku, anyone? SENKAKU SAYS EVERYTHING IN A REALLY LOUD VOICE, NO MATTER WHAT HE'S SAYING!! IT'S ALMOST REDICULOUS!! HA HA HA!!). There was only one main character voice that I didn't like, and that was Misao. My gosh, I wanted to mute her. XD Other than that, though, I loved the dub, and I actually prefer the dub over the sub. Richard Hayworth = drool, anyways.

As for the OVAs, I've only seen the first one: Trust and Betrayal. I must say, the dub was quite good. Even though Richard Hayworth wasn't the voice of Kenshin, the VA that they did use did a good job. I didn't like Tomoe's voice at all, but that's a different story entirely. XD

At any rate, the Kenshin dub is done very well, and I would definitely reccommend it.

It gets a little tiring when every thread becomes a "Bash 4Kids" thread, especially when it's 1. Not about 4Kids or 2. The dub isn't even done by 4Kids. We know about the general distaste for this company by many around here. We certainly don't need to be reminded of it continually.

The dub got better as it went along. At first it was a little grimace-inducing, but it all got pretty powerful by the end. AVOID "SAMURAI X: THE MOVIE" ENGLISH DUB AT ALL COSTS!!!! *gasp wheeze* It's truly awful, and you'll regret it if you do.

I suppose that I should mention, about the music...It's all the same as the sub, save for the first OP and ED. Though they're the same tune, the lyrics have been translated in the English version of both "Sobakasu/Freckles" and "Tactics." In spite of this; however, the Japanese version of "Sobakasu" and the rest of the songs (save Tactics) are heard in the dub once the Kyoto Arc begins.

The only thing I hated about Rurouni Kenshin was that opening theme. It seemed somewhat out of place. Maybe if this was a romantic comedy, it would've worked.

My word I haven't seen RK in forever... kinda sad. It was my first real anime ^^ I watched it religiously on Toonami every afternoon, but when they started over at the beginning (leaving the biggest freaking cliffhanger ever right before the Shishio arc) I found out how to download it online. Before I watched it in Japanese I didn't notice anything back about the rk dub, but once I'd heard and gotten used to the Japanese it was hard to go back to the dub. Kenshin's original Jap voice took some getting used to, but once I watched the dub again Kenshin's voice sounded like an annoying newscaster, or super hero or something. It was just too... big for him. I dunno. Plus I missed the oro's and the gozaru

Well, technically the full title of Kenshin (at least the manga) is like "Tales of the Romantic Swordsman" or something along those lines^^ And truthfully, romance does play a somwhat big role in the series... and well, the show does contain quite a bit of comedy in it too^^

You want to know a series that doesn't have a fitting op/end song?! Watch Black cat and then watch the ending video/song of it @_@... so out of place!
