Poll: Most angst-filled anime ever!

Angst seems to be a major ingredient in many an anime. Which title do you think has the most? (Note to mods: I know NGE is a DND title, but it is relevant to this discussion because of Shinji's mental breakdown midway through the story. In light of that, I feel it should be brought up here, especially as I am only speaking in general terms.)

Eva I'd say, was probably the worst :/ Made me very annoyed through the whole thing >_<

Another one that my friend says is very angsty, is Motoko off the first Ghost in the Shell movie... I didn't think so as much as say the other titles above.

RahXephon can get very angsty toward the end.You haven't seen angst unless you've seen the episode where Asahina dies.

The End of Evangelion was the most depressing thing I've ever seen. But Akira the most angst filled anime I've seen (haven't seen the Evangelion series - don't want to).

I voted for S-Cry-Ed...though i don't know if you could confuse Angst with mindless yelling and screaming.

Not really angsty, but for just plain WHINING, Alien Nine wins.

Noir was pretty angsty though. You feel so sorry for Kira especially. A great series, but very sad.

I am definately going with RahXephon. Althoug Eva comes to a close second as far as the annoying angst will go.

s-Cry-ed and DBZ aren't in the same league as Eva. I haven't seen RahXephon and Akira, but I suspect they're well beyond that level also.

I'm going with RahXephon and Eva is a close second. Both were angst-filled, and both had confusing endings, although I enjoyed RahXephon more.

It was a toss-up, but RahXephon got my vote. And as much as I like it, FMA is pretty angst driven too ...

Eva. RahXephon just didn't have the same level of anxiety and dread, in my opinon, and seemed less desperate toward the end. And while I havn't see s-CRY-ed, Akira was more about wierd violence than angst to me.

From the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary - angst: a feeling of anxiety, apprehension, or insecurity. So an angsty anime is one that plays upon these themes really heavily.

i like angst!

mai-hime. uta-kata maybe. and perhaps AIR(the series) 'cause it was very emotional and confusion.

I thought Escaflowne was very angsty, but probably not as much as Evangelion. Shinji was an angst factory.

 Then Monster of 20th Century Boys takes the cake. Comparing with like, Eva or FMA. Both of those DEFINATELY has a LOOOOT of angst (in a good way). Like, the whole THEME is angst!

The only reason why I think that FMA is close to Eva in the angst factory is because of how much longer the series is. Anyway Eva gets my vote. It's kinda like the father of angsty anime...Well somewhat.

No, the father of angsty anime would probably be the original Gundam, at least that's as far back as my anime knowledge reaches. NGE did however truly surpass all others before it in angst.
