Subsistence.....Subsistence

Have a video game or or VG review? This is the place to to discuss it! We also accept discussions of board games and the like, but SHHH! Don't tell anyone, OK?

I can hear it now. The nice f-bomb laced tirades of kids, lewd comments made by kids who can't even drive...and the questioning of my sexual orientation by a kid who is being yelled at to go to bed by mommy and daddy. No thank you. I have always hated online gaming with a passion.

Yeah, I suppose that is one of the biggest downsides to online gaming. Thats why I plan on getting in on group games with some of the more mature players from GameFAQs. But I can certainly understand why you'd stray from playing online.

Yeah, he's got a good point there...

It'd be nice if all online gaming had regulations like XBox Live's Gaming Zones. I know I can almost always hop on the family zone and play a clean game.

Whoa, I didn't meant to get off-topic there.

I can't wait to see those parody videos myself. I hear there's a lot of Raiden jokes. I can't get enough Raiden jokes, personally.

I hope I get the game today... It all comes down to whether or not my Game Crazy got the shipment. I will definately be playing online, but I've gotta beat Snake Eater first. (Yeah, it's true. I never played the original.) That being said, the limited edition copies are more deserved by pretty much everyone else lol. At least I save $10 towards another game, which makes me happy.

Question about the new camera: You can still toggle between the new and old cameras in single player, right?

Yeah, the camera is interchangable via the R3 button.

The Limited Edition is now in my posession!

I've been playing MG1 all day, great game, even for its age.

Just need to wait another 50 minutes until my roomate gets back so I can get the wireless connector from him and play online *SQUEE*

Ok, so nothing is removed (like the good camera system that I like) just stuff added... So, they're not playing the microsoft game... Or even RPG maker, for that matter... I hate when new versions of things remove features... One more reason to love my Metal Gear!

Got the limited edition, I have to agree, it's amazing how good MG1 and MG2:SS are even after all this time. I won't be able to play online until I get back home, but I'm hoping it's pretty solid too.

They lied to Ashley. Sold her the regular edition. I seriously wish companys were held to SOME kind of standard. Gamestop and EB messed a lot of people over during this whole thing. Oh well. Anyone decides they want to sell there Existence disk. (The one that made a movie of the whole thing) let me know. I would be willing to put up good cash for it.

Ouch, that's messed up. I am amazed by the lack of knowledge these people have about the stuff they're selling.

Well anways, I got the regular edition today.

The thing is, I called 6 places. Each time I asked them, "are you taking pre-orders for Metal Gear Solid 3, Special Edition?" "Yes." "You're sure it's the SPECIAL edition?" 5 of them would then say, "no, it's regular," and then I would call it off. This EB said yes, so I went down there and then asked AGAIN. Again, yes. So I put in for it, and this morning picked it up and it was the regular ol' green cover.

Clearly, there was no miscommunciation here--the people in the stores were either lying deliberately, or they didn't know the difference. Either way, I'm SEVERELY disappointed in EB and thinking about withdrawing my application for a summer job there. >_>;;

Man, that's a bummer. It reminds me of the time my friend went to EB to buy the Morrowind "Game of the Year Edition." (the GOTY edition includes 2 expansion packs that the regular version does not have) The guy working at EB kept stubbornly saying, "It's the same thing, just a different name!" So my friend left angrily. I know for a fact they are two different things, as I have owned both versions. >:(
Oh well, I guess everyplace is kinda like that. The guys at Game Crazy hardly knew much about MGS it seemed. The guy I talked to today told me it wasn't going to come out until next week anyway.

I truly hope you can get a copy of the LE, Ark. They're going for over $100 on ebay...

And wow, Ashley is really devoted. ^_^d

Well I just got off the phone with my local EB. Guy spent about the last 20 seconds of the call trying to convince me to buy a regular edition before I hung up on him.

"Thanks, I was looking for the LE. Thanks for your time, by.."

"Oh but we have plenty of the regular, if you'd like I can set a regular asi.."

Click.

I hate long goodbyes lol. Then I called Gamestop. And even though its been more then 48 hours since the release, there still all.

"We only have copies for our reserve customers"

So what is the lesson I am suposed to learn from this? If I reserve I still might not get it? Blah.

Got an email back from EBs website. They gave me a # to call. I basicly listened to apology after apology. And in the end, was told I could probably get the girl in hot water that told Ash what she did...but I would not get the game. So I am not vengeful. I will let this all go.

I think it would be best to follow through on this anyway. Not out of a sense of vengance, mind, but to try to stop them from doing this again. If this just goes unreported, the people who did this will probably continue this type of behavior and defraud others. They got away with it once, and they will probably try to get away with it again. While it may seem like vengance to pursue this type of thing, it is generally best for a number of people in the long run. I just hope they don't try to do this to me with the Oblivion collector's edition...

Thing is, from what I am reading on various message boards...hundreds of people had the same thing happen. So its quite well known what went down. Guy even admitted, "we really dropped the ball" I just wish they were actually held to a standard...rather then just kissing butts when things go wrong.

Somewhat off topic, but this is the sort of ethical dillemas I have a hard time with... "Will rocking the boat and trying to get justice for myself be selfish, or will letting them get away with it and do it to more people be selfish?"

What it comes down to with me is simple. I cannot get the LE at this point. I have come to terms with that. Its wrong what they did to me (or Ash really) But its done. At this point, the only thing that could happen is this girl at EB that Ash spoke to could lose her job. And really, getting the LE is not worth that to me. If I am gonna get the LE...I will get it somehow. I don't need to be vengeful in getting it.

Well, if nothing else, get your money back. (or Ashley's money back, for that matter.) You could always file an anonymous complaint, not specifically mentioning the employee that lied to you, if you're worried about her job.

Ebay has totally blew the market wide open on it. For a while, it was valued around 60 bucks. You can still get them on IGN for that from members on there forums. So a used copy, should be around 30 or 40 bucks. Which is what I am hoping to spend. (hence my sig here on the boards) I still hold out hope that someone will sell me one...still hope.

I got a new copy of the regular Subsistence for $30, Ark. I don't think I'd wanna buy the SE even if it wasn't as much hassle as everyone seems to be saying. It just wouldn't be as much fun for me to watch it as it is to play it (and there's enough watching involved in any MGS game, anyway). Everything I really want is in the regular version. And now that I've got all of 'em, I'm gonna play through all the MG and MGS games in chronological order, according to the storyline. Whee!

Oh hey, what if they advertised it like: "New bonus feature: 'Snake's Revenge' Special Edition!" Or if one of Snake's camo/facepaint options was the yellow-and-orange SR gear! YEEEEEAAAAAAAAHHH!!
Um... no.

Ok, just got my copy of MGS3S. I will post my review once I complete it in a few days. I already beat Snake Eater, but I feel like going through this new beefy verson. I am still hunting for that Existence disk. Trying to barter for one on the IGN boards right now.

OK I've come to this thread for motivation. (And so hopefully, you won't kill me, Ark!) I played through MGS 1&2 and loved them. I never played Snake Eater, so as soon as Subsistence arrived in stores I bought it. But then something happened--I somehow got myself gripped in Morrowind, and playing Xbox Live whenever my friends are online.

Plus, I've been killing the guards. My friend tells me that they will literally come back to haunt me later. So I might just restart my game, since I haven't gotten too far yet anyway. I've just been too lazy... I must say I feel a bit ashamed as a gamer. Heh...
