Final Fantasy 8 Gaiden: Hoax or Not?

Have a video game or or VG review? This is the place to to discuss it! We also accept discussions of board games and the like, but SHHH! Don't tell anyone, OK?

Yes, which is why i stated my opinion and said it leave that statement alone.
What do I need to back up?
I just don`t like it as much as the others.

Want a reason? I don`t like Tactic RPGs AS MUCH as normal RPGs. The gameplay is less fun for me then your average FF battle system.

I think FFT is overrated by people on CAA, not in general. The FF7 snowboarding game is fun, BTW, and so is using the new FF7 toothbrushes and floss. Sephimint.....refreshing.

And BTW, RD, you said all the plot holes were covered in Advent Children. AC was a sequel.

If you got an opinion, you should beable to back it up or else you're just making a statement for the heck of saying it.

I don't find Tactics overrated by people on CAA. I myself think it is a decent game. Never got to into it. Make a poll and see who on CAA likes which Final Fantasy the most. Seven will most likely get the most number of votes. You never backed it up, you stated why you didn't like it. Not why it was overrated

I want a FFT sequel. Forget more FF7 related games. That ending just screams 'SEQUEL' to me. Plus, a sequel would allow them to do more with Alma. She got so little play time in the game that it's sad.

Mr. SmartyPants wrote:Then tell me. WHY on earth did you even bring this up? It's like you purposefully try to get on peoples nerves. If ya got an opinon, state it in a more proper place. (Like make a new thread about it) AND Be sure to back up your claim

I wouldn't count on that. Those two sold pretty dismally and got subpar reviews. And with good reason too they had "lame console port" slapped all over them.

Tactics over rated? Thats pretty funny. Last I knew, fans of Tactics have not spent the last like umteen years crying for a sequal to somthing that does not need a sequal. (FF7) As far as gameplay? Yes, Tactics is far more strategy based then other FF's. Now as far as characters go, Tactics buries the PS1 FFs. Ramza was a more indepth character then Cloud, Squall, Zidane, and Tidus combined. Thats not blind loyalty from me because I loved the PS1 FF's. But because you don't like Tactics, don't say its overrated. When you can show me 500 website shrines dedicated to Ramza...then I will say its overrated.

Hear, hear. Besides, for proof that Tactics is not overrated...when Tactics was rereleased for PS1 under the "Greatest Hits" line, it actually did not meet the requirements for being given that title. In order to be a Greatest Hits title, the game must have sold at least one million copies. Tactics did not sell one million copies. It was rereleased only at the request of fans. Compare this to the other PS1 Final Fantasy games which sold one million units and beyond.

Moombas are summonable through an item you can only acquire through the Chocobo World which is only accessable through Pocket Playstation. PocketStations are only available for Japanese PSXs. They're quite powerful, Moombas, but if you have Squall's Lionheart and Eden, I don't think there's a need to take that extra long step.

I already have a PocketStation. What item could you get that allowed you to summon Moombas? I beat Chocobo World, like, twice, and I don't remember getting anything really unique like that except for Mog's Amulet, or whatever that was called. I may already have Eden and Lionheart, but I STILL MUST KNOW!

On a side note, go Ark! Go Kaemmerite! Preach the FFTness!

Alright, I am finally going to come out and say it.

I don`t think the mainstream overrates FFT, but rather underrates it.
However, if you make a topic on any FF fansite or even here, a huge amount of people are going to say FFT pwns all.

I think FF7 is underrated.
Why?
Because people just seem to not like it for the sole fact they THINK it`s overrated.
And having numerous sequels and products has nothing to do with a video game being overrated. It has to do with Square wanting to make a lot of money and since FF7 just happened to sell the best and Seph was a pop culture icon for video game baddies, they went with that one.

So I ask again...Why would you want them to make yet another sequel of it? I would prefer that Square actually do something useful with their gobs of money and put it towards a new project that keeps the old gameplay values, instead of ruining them like FFXII probably will. But whatever, that's just me.

I will answer again.

I thought FF7 had numerous plot holes which was the only reason I thought a sequel would be neccessary.

I hardly think FF7 is underrated. The reasons why I think FF7 is inferior to 8 and Tactics:
The story was pretty weak, a majority of the characters were forgettable, and the Materia system was too broken at times.

Compared to 8 and Tactics: 8 and FFT had better stories that were much more thought out and considerably deeper than 7. Especially FFT.

I won't say that 8 and FFT didn't have their own forgettable characters. I never liked Quistis or Irvine, and I wasn't too particularly fond of Rinoa, but she was still a decent character. And FFT had Meliadoul who was, IMO, one of the most useless of the special characters in the game. And Rafa and Malak, who I also found to be quite useless.

At the same time, 8 and FFT have their own forms of brokenness. In 8, Zell could chug out hundreds of thousands of damage at a time if you use Duel properly, Rinoa could be a beefy character as well, if you stock her magic properly for Angel Wing. Boost that Magic stat, and make her only attack magic Meteor. She'll be putting out neighborhood 50K every turn. And I'm not even going to talk about how Calculators own FFT. But the fact is that to be broken (or even remotely broken) in either of these games requires more work than it did in 7.

Meliadoul COULD have been useful if you got her earlier in the game. The problem is by the time you get her, you already have T.G. Cid who has all her abilities and uses them faster and does more damage with 'em.

Malak is completely worthless, but Rafa is actually pretty good if you train her as a mage.

Crap, I totally forgot about T.G. Cid. I had to work on not using Orlandu because he's so beefy ^_^ Meliadoul did have some potential, I guess, but she does come way too late game. But at least you get the free Save The Queen. I guess Rafa isn't completely useless. She got me the good Javelin and the good Escutcheon. I never thought about using her as a mage though, because I usually have my party leveled and trained to the point I want it at by the time I get her.

I honestly think that just making ONE sequel with Advent children`s story would`ve been fine. I never said that all these sequels were a good thing. Just one was useful. I do think Dirge of Cerebus looks like a good game and Square`s desperate attempt to make a DMC carbon copy.

IMO, Square should`ve just made FF7-2 and gone on with bigger, better things.

Okay, then you completely misunderstood. I said I think making a sequel to FF7 would be a better idea than one for X-2 as in a game that carries the story of FF7 in an RPG format, not a freakin movie and cellphone game.

Regardless of what I said before, I am saying this now:

ONE FF7 SEQUEL THAT WAS A PS2 RPG WOULD HAVE BEEN FINE!

But I can admit, DoC does look fun.
