Write a really short story!

Postby Warrior 4 Jesus » Tue Feb 28, 2006 3:40 am

I found this idea on a Narnia writing forum. Apparently you try to write a short story "a drabble" no longer than 100 words, using the words: "night," "wicked," "stars," "island" (in any order).
Have a go, its good fun. Here's my 5 minute attempt:

Stars in the sky pulse faintly like a heart monitor before flatlining. Without warning they wink from existence and are consumed in the encroaching darkness. Isolation sets in. Am I alone in this world? Why does my soul feel like an island no one can cross unscathed? Why? What have I done to deserve this? I must be cursed, blemished by some past sin. But I feel no remorse. No wicked deceit clouds my thoughts. Am I beyond redemption? Will I survive this night?
But then dawn approaches and I realise this is not home. There is hope.

The Island laid before us, the strange, curling mountain rising like a tower against the setting sun. It cast its shadow like a twisted, knotted finger pointing towards the approaching night. Our ship floated into this shadow, robbing us of the last warmth of the sun. I could feel the wicked eyes from the island burn into my skin, but only the stars knew what these were. We saw no structure or port, but I felt that there was no way we could escape what fate had in store for us.

Slightly on the morbid side.

Leaning on the hilt of my sword I pushed with the last of my strength. The enblazoned steel caught, then sank deep between the great wyrm's scales. Steam hissed from the wound and I glimpsed the stars momentarily as a black filthy oil spewed in my face. I stumbled away and it rolled onto its back, dying. Those wicked claws which once tore both man and beast asunder, weakly groped at the night sky as it lay like an island in a dark bubbling sea.

That night the wicked stars went to the island. ;)

my more exerted effort (more of a poem, but oh well)

Stars.
Bright, shining within the darkness of night.
Though wicked people and fell deeds plague the world,
Though storms destroy and age deprives,
Still they stand, islands of light,
Shining in the midst of our darkness.

"Good night," said the wicked stars to the Island.

They were all dead.

This is really short. I may come up with something with more effort later.

Every night, I stare up at the stars, wishing someone would find me. But alas, I am alone on this island, stranded forever. The sea gives a wicked laugh, knowing it has beaten me. I have no escape.

Here is a story idea I have and this has given me and any intursted can PM me.

Off the coast of Italy is the Island of Cyprus. There, a wicked secret society that is plotting to keep the rest of Italy and Greece under its iniquitous grasp. But one night one stood up to them. Taunting them by the cover of night he is known as Dark Angel. By moonlight brings justice. Maidens hear of his exploits with stars in their eyes.

Ooh! Here's my attempt. Which is kind of weird now that I look back on it...Oh well...

[I]It was unusually cool that night for Star Island. The area usually didn’t experience bouts of cold weather until Novemberish or so.

Teri shivered and held on to the dog’s leash tighter as the brisk sea breeze swept past her. It was Friday the thirteenth. Normally, Teri was quite sensible and didn’t believe in that superstitious junk but something just seemed…off…

Night brings with it stars
Island spring with wicked rain
Write haiku at dusk
The cake used to be a lie like you, but then it took a portal to the deception core.
