Is there any news if the manga, how close to an end is it?

If Takahashi-san writes up to the five hundred chapters limit she placed on the manga, there are about fifty-four chapters left to go. Since each chapter is usually written in one week, Inuyasha will end next year around the end of march. I wonder what story the author will begin writting next, and if it will be as good as Inuyasha.

I liked episode 12 as well since it showed how far Kagome would go to help another person wheter living or dead.
