So what did people think of Steamboy?

Did anyone watch it? I just saw it off Starz and was considerably underwhelmed. Some parts seemed to go on foreeeeeever (although I was watching the DX version, so maybe that had something to do with it), and it was just generally unimpressive. I had gotten sort of stoked over it since Sunrise was doing the animation - which was indeed very good - but as a movie it lacked any spark of excitement or draw for me.

What are y'all's thoughts?

I watched it for the first time this past Wednesday night. I had heard so many negative things about it that I had let it set for a long time. However, I really enjoyed it. I'll admit it was slow paced at times, but overall I found it to be an very entertaining title in an H. G. Wells kind of way. I think most of the backlash came from the fact that it comes from the creators of Akira and therefore should have been on par with that. Personally, I didn't care for Akira and liked Steamboy a lot more.

I liked Steamboy a lot, actually. It just had all the elements of a whimsical adventure that I liked. I'm also a big fan of Metropolis, and minus the robots it reminded me a lot of it. To me it seemed like Metropolis crossed with The Rocketeer, and to me that just made it plain fun.

I have to say though, as always I think it was the Japanese dub that made a lot of the characters, however Alfred Molina did a FANTASTIC job as Eddie Steam.

It was well done, but didn't really draw me in much. So I rate it somewhere between "meh" and "good" ;)

Very true. Actually, Steamboy is in someways just a very tone-down version of Akira.

I was generally unimpressed with the story, but the action was good. I guess it's a good movie if you don't want to think to much, but I prefer deeper story lines.

I was plesantly suprised by Steam Boy. After all the negative reviews, I thought it was pretty good. Yes, the plot is pretty simplistic and none of the characters are especially memorable, but overall I found the movie to be quite enjoyable.

Why aren't there more Metropolis fans? That's way better than Akira.
