I like it. If you`re a girl, you`ll feel a lot less guilty about reading it.

Whenever i go to the library to pick up a volume of the manga I try to make sure no one sees the book other than me because the overall look is girly.

It took a lot of convincing from other CAA members to get this manly man into Fruits Basket and it worked.

I like the manga at least.
The anime is nowhere as good, and it only covers the story up to Volume 6 in the manga.
The manga currently has 12 Volumes in America.

I enjoyed the anime. It is sprinkled with some mild language here and there, deals with figures of the chinese zodiac and has at least one questionable character.

I have to disagree with Tom when he says that the anime is nowhere near as good as the manga, I've read some of the manga and seen the anime and I think both are excellent, although I'm still not entirely over my embarrassment at liking Fruits Basket. You could read the review in the reviews section for more information, but this is a heavily relationship-based anime (not romance so much as social relationships) which is quite cute and fun to watch. I would highly recommend it to you if you like that type of thing.

26 episodes. I own the box set and am collecting the manga.

One peice of advice: WATCH IT AND READ IT!

Its an awesome series that has one very good quality: virtually no fanservice (if any really)

I love the story and the art. The anime is just as good as the manga as far as story and art, but the manga has more story, so I tend to lean towards the manga. That and I can reread my favorite parts a lot easier then rewatch them.

I recomend this series very very highly. Great read or watch. There is minor language as some have noted, and that one character. But definatly worth it.

BTW: I am a 21 year old guy and I could care less who sees me with Fruits Basket. ;)

I love both the anime and the manga. I don't care so much for the way the anime ends, but probably only because the manga doesn't end there. The manga gets much deeper and darker than the anime, but both are excellent.

My one piece of advice: watch the orginal Japanese with subtitles! I watched it that way first and I nearly gagged when I heard the English voices. I'm not always one to support primarily one version or the other, but the characters seemed to have totally different personalities when I watched the English version. But maybe that's just me.

BTW, there are only 4 DVD's in the entire series. They put a lot more episodes on one DVD compared to other anime out there.

Yuki sounds like a guy to me, least in the english dub.

I can't comment on the japanese version but I felt that the english dub was very well done. It fit with what I would expect reading the manga and watching the show. Hm...you have me curious now. I may have to go and watch the sub...

Well, to me, Yuki sounds like a girl (female voice actor) in the Japanse version, though a rather deep alto, while in the dub he has a male voice actor. Yuki's dub wasn't as bad as Kyo's though, he sound like he's about 10!

The DVDs have the sub and the dub, you just have to select which one you want from the setup menu. And two DVDs have 7 episodes, so it works out to 26 total episodes. Unusual of an anime to be on four discs, but is makes the cost more reasonable and I thought the video quality was still excellent.

*picks up her collection a couple feet away*
DVD I - Eps 1 - 6
DVD II - Eps 7 - 12
DVD III - Eps 13 - 19
DVD IV - Eps 20 - 26
and yes, they have both the sub and the dub

I think unless you're offended by gay and effeminate men, there should be nothing offensive here. I hate mooshy-gooshy romance, and I still love this one. It's not cheap, it's deep, and if you like Inu-Yasha, I can tell you right now it's well worth your time. It's a tad bit more realistic than Inu-Yasha though...

I haven't had the chance to read the manga (and hopefully will some time) but I was surprised by how much I enjoyed Fruits Basket. I really enjoyed the theme of how a simple heart could break through tough situations and darkness. I watched the subs (I had gotten it before it was licensed and dub'd).

The last three episodes really picked up the pace. The last two episodes made it worth while to watch the series. Hopefully they will consider doing another season and follow along the manga.

The manga is better in my opinion just because it has a longer story (and I can find story parts I like easier in the manga then the anime). I can't say much about cost (I get them at a discount) but they are definatly worth full price. Don't worry, you won't be disapointed.

I disagree on this point. To me, the final two episodes felt very rushed, as they were attempting to have an "ending" to an anime series that was not yet over in the manga. This happens commonly, leading to endings that make no sense or are resolved too quickly.

Needless to say, the final events in episode 26 do not occur in the manga, which makes for a better storyline...in fact, if there WERE to be a sequel to the Fruits Basket anime, it would probably be radically different from the manga, for a few reasons.

But I found the anime to be enjoyable up until the final episodes.

Actually I concur with your statement, I guess the thing was the emotional intensity that previously was missing. I watched the last two eps about 8 times.

Yes it was rushed, especially in the light of what a continued series this amine could offer. None the less, seeing I didn't have the manga to judge the time line of the anime, I was at more liberity to enjoy the unfolding events.

My library has a few of the manga, but only the first two anime disks, which, I am proud to say, I have checked out repeatidly! This anime is really great! The animation is the best hands's down, and the plotline and characters are perfect!

The manga is infinitely better, except perhaps for the episode where Uo and Hanajima come over. In the manga it was treated as a a sweet get-together and nothing very ridiculous occured with the Sohmas. The ANIME episode, however, was absolutely hilarious. ^.^
