Box Set

Postby KBMaster » Fri Feb 10, 2006 12:55 pm

In the not-so-distant future, I'm going to recieve an amount of money, and like the crazy otaku I am, I'm gonna buy ANIME!!! I know I want a box set, but I don't know which ones, so I'd like some recommendations.
Some series I like are: Full Metal Alchemist, Inuyasha, Bleach, Fruits Basket, Full Moon, Azumanga Daioh, Rurouni Kenshin, and Shaman King.(Roughly in that order)
I want a boxset with not too much swearing, no nudity, verrrrrrrry little fanservice if possible, no sexual content, and not a lot of blood and gore. A little blood is fine. Basically, something I can watch with my 10 and 11 year old brothers.
I *prefer* shonen anime, but I can stomach some shoujo. I like fast paced anime, but I can handle IY and bleach. :thumb: I also love anime with good morals and character develpment. And swords. I don't dig guns and robots.
I know it's a long list, but it's flexible! Lol. Any websites(that won't give me a virus since the last time I tried to find info on scrapped princess, I got one) on these series would be AWESOME.
Thanks!

Hmmm well there's the Haibane Renmei boxset that just came out and is a REALLY good one... .hack//SIGN maybe too?

(and if you want a website on info, there are links above on this site for reviews on story and content and stuff for most of the popular series).

If you want a good shojo series, there's the Pretear thinpack. Very clean series. Also there's a Rurouni Kenshin season 1 boxset I've seen too.

Maybe a boxset to look forward to would be Samurai 7.

This is a totally fantastic series that fits all of your requirments. The little side-OVA (a parody of the series) has some fanservice, but there's really no need to watch it.

Well, if it weren't for the "swords, not guns" requirement, I would say "Noir".

Instead, I think I'm looking for a series that would fit all these requirements, myself.
May the Lord bless you and keep you.
May He cause His face to shine upon you.
May He lift up His countenance and grant you peace.

Maokun: Ninjas or Pirates? (Vikings are not a valid answer, sorry)

EricTheFred: Vikings are always a valid answer.

Largo: "Well Ed, good to see ya. Guess I gotta beat the crap out of you now."

Jamie Hyneman: "It's just another lovely day at the bomb range. Birds are singing, rabbits are hopping about, and soon there's going to be a big explosion."

Just a tip to help you stretch your buck a bit... ADV is running a sale right now on their website, going through Feb. 19. They actually run these sales fairly often. Of course it's only ADV-licensed stuff, but you can get some AWESOME prices.

Of course as far as content, you'll still probably want to check the reviews or run a search here at CAA before you buy.
Theme Scripture: Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. (Galatians 5:1)

And a verse for all us single folks: Do we have no right to take along a believing wife, as do also the other apostles, the brothers of the Lord, and Cephas? (1 Corinthians 9:5)

 Looking for a GOOD music mix? Check out these stations:
Grey FM Heartland -- a mix of Country and Contemporary Christian music (Listen Now!)
Grey FM Downtown -- a mix of mainstream and Christian pop and rock music (Listen Now!)

More real stuff...

Box set tip #1: search on google and hit the froogle button for the lowest prices on legitimate merchandise on the net.

Box set tip #2: Companies like to rip you off by putting as little on each DVD as possible to inflate the price (Trigun has only three episodes on some discs). Look for shows that fit the entire series on 4 discs for the best buys (from your list, Fruits Basket and Azumanga Daioh (I think) fit onto four discs).

Box set tip #3: Box sets can take up a lot of shelf space (another reason to look for less discs). Sometimes companies put out alternatively packaged sets (like Rurouni Kenshin and the Last Exile: Range Murata Edition) that take up significantly less space, so don't buy the first one you see.

Box set tip #4: Make sure you like the show before hand. That's a lot of money and hours of watching to put into a show you might not like.

That was some great prices, too bad they don't sell outside the U.S :'(

.hack//SIGN is the best series ever, though I'm not sure if it's as fast-paced as you want :P Else I would suggest Get Backers :D
