Howl's Moving Castle gets an Oscar Nomination.
Oscar nominations have just been announced, and Howl's Moving Castle has been nominated in the "Best Animated Film" category. Speculation is that the new Wallace and Gromit film, "Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit", will take the Oscar, but I'll still be cheering for Howl. I thought you all might want to know.

Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. I'll be cheering for Wallace and Gromit. Miyazaki already has an Oscar for best animated feature while Nick Park has none although he does have two for Best Animated Short. Since two Animated Shorts = An Animated Feature I suppose that puts them on equal footing.

Wow, for the first time in a while there are actually several good options in this catagory!
I have only seen Howls. But I have heard really good things about the other two. I would like to see howl win, because I think Miyazaki could use a bit more recognition, but I really doubt that it will beat out Wallace and Gromit. Well, we shall see.

Yeah, all the experts are saying that Wallace and Gromit will take it, and the movie was definitely worthy of the notice it's recieving. Personally, I'll be happy if Howl or Wallace and Gromit take it. (But I'm partial to Howl.

First time that a Disney movie hasn't been nominated in this category. (And I'm not considering Howl to be a Disney film, since it's only distributed by them.)
Actually, before these noms, I was thinking that the only well-reviewed animated film of the year has been Wallace and Gromit. Even Howl got some bad reviews, since people either didn't like the plot or didn't like having an old lady as the heroine.

It it sort of surprising. And yet I though Chicken Little was on top of the box office for a short amount of time. Well, guess the Academy didn't recognize it. Most movie on the awards are usually ones not many (or at least me) haven't heard of and they win TONS, as do the top guys of CG that have continuing series, like LotR, HP, and maybe even now Narnia (dunno if it's been nominated for anything but it would be nice.)

I definitely didn't think that Howl was one of Miyazaki's best, and I haven't seen the other two, but I'm not a big fan of Nick Park or Tim Burton.
Like I watch the Oscars anyway...but more positive exposere for anime and Miyazaki is always cool.

I would actually like to see corpse bride win but they didn't do a very good animation job like the did on nitemare before christmas. so i supppose I'll root for Howl

Huh, no matter what wins, I'll be very happy, Corpse Bride and W&G being my favorite movies ever. Howl was wonderful, but it dragged rather often and differed far too much from the original book. Still, a wonderful movie. ^^

My bet is on Burton. Howl's was disappointing, and Curse overstayed its welcome (Park does much better when he's pressed for time).

I haven't seen any of these movies! Yay for me! >.> I so wanted to see Howl's Moving Castle though, and Corpse Bride. Rental store, here I come.

I have only seen Wallice and Gromet, I hope Howl's moving castle wins. I didn't find Curse of the Were-rabbit to be that great. And it wasn't as funny as I thought it would be.

I'm kinda torn about who I want to win. A close friend of mine is a HUGE fan of Corpse Bride, I've always loved the Wallace and Gromit movies, and I'm a HUGE HUGE Miyazaki fan....

And the result (for those who never watched).... WAS in fact Wallace and Gromit.
All I have to say is: well, claymation movies always have impressed me. I mean, just THINK about all the time and patience to make those things! Move an inch, take a picture, and so forth...
Although I have yet to see Howl... since it comes out in 2 days, looks liek it's time to soon shop around and search for the best prices^^ ...and maybe pick up Totoro eventually too (cause it's so darn cute!!) ^^

Wallace and Gromit! I knew it!
I haven't seen Howl's, but Corpse Bride made me want to sue and get my 75 minutes back, cleanse my ears of the icky songs, and throw the DVD at my friend and curse her for actually LETTING me borrow it.
I heart W&G.
Oh, and Orenji, the visuals were meant to be somewhat rough, to retain the charm of the short films. Also, just focusing on the fingerprints makes you lose a LOT of what's going on...Gromit's subtle expressions, the sets (like Tottington Hall), the cuteness of the bunnies, and even how the van shifts weight from one side to the other.
