Cartoon Network to air Spirited Away this Friday

For those interested and couldn't view it on Turner Classic Movies earlier this month (or just want to watch it again, I guess), Cartoon Network will air Spirited Away during it's Cartoon Cartoon Fridays line up this week.

This is one of Miyazaki's most aclaimed movies. Worth watching. Two thumps up. Four stars. Insert must see rating here.

(Are they playing the dub or the sub? I taped it on TCM, and it was the sub, and I'm interested to see the dub. I probably *could* just buy it, since everyone in my family likes it and its not that expensive, but it'd be nice to just watch it on CN.)

I'm assuming the dub. I doubt theyâ€™d play the sub. It may also be edited to fit time constraints whereas TCM played the whole thing without commercial interruption.

since it is on the early fri. lineup i doubt they would put it w/ the subtitles cause there will be kids watching that may not be able to read or cant read it in time b/f it goes to the next sentence. course i dont know either way. thats jsut what i figured they will do

They really should've waited til Halloween. It would've been more appropriate, since it's horror.

Halloween's on a Tuesday this year.Though I doubt that had anything to do with it.
They're probably doing it now since they have the rights to show all the Studio Ghibli movies that ran on TCM last month.

i finally got to see it and so far out of the movies that i have watched by myazaki i have to say that it was one of my favorites.

Myazaki rocks my socks as always! He tells a great story with great characters! WAY better than ANYTHING in the box office at the time or currently!

It isn't really much of a horror film. Not by the standards I generally use, anyway.

In any case, I did make a successful effort to see this. To be honest, I was slightly disappointed. Good animation, good directing, generally good world-building. But the plot was a bit loose and I couldn't take Haku being cured seriously - they actually said "the power of love."

I presume you're asking how the movie is spiritually disturbing in terms of Christian morality and cosmology. I would say that it isn't. It is a conglomeration of Japanese mythology and some original material that becomes a fairly tame fantasy world with no real relation to religion. Basically the only people I fell it would be unsuitable for are small children, who I don't think should be watching television in the first place.

You mean, you want to know "how spiritually disturbing" it is?

It sorta depends on the person, but...it CAN be disturbing to some people. The entire plot revolves around a bathhouse where Japanese gods, mythilogical creatures and spirts go to relax. There's river spirits, magic, dragons, a shadowy spirit that in one scene actually eats people...it can be very disturbing sometimes. It's all treated like a fairy tale, but...

That being said, I love Miyazaki's movies, so I also love Spirited Away (although I prefer Castle in the Sky and Princess Mononoke).

The concept strikes me as odd.
