Differences Between AU & AS Fans?

Postby mitsuki lover » Tue Jan 31, 2006 2:07 pm

I'm curious(and since I watch anime on both AS and AU)do you think there is any difference in the type of fan that watches the anime on AU as opposed to those that generally just watch AS?

AS/AU?
Arsenic/Gold?
American Samoa/Australia?

Adult Swim and Anime Unleashed.

I don't know, but from my understanding, AS probably skews more mainstream than AU does.

Or, in other words, more "casual fans" probably tune in to Adult Swim than Anime Unleashed.

That's about right. I'm an [as] fan myself, it's where I was introduced to anime. It reels in a lot of people who would be otherwise adverse to giving it a shot.

Some people don't get the chance to watch AU as often. XD I was able to watch Last Exile on AU once, but it didn't really interest me. Maybe I just came in too late? XD

AS is my personal favorite, even though I don't like most of what they show there (other than anime and Samurai Champloo XD). Anyways, AS is much more convenient for me, since I can record episodes that come on really late (I have a tv in my room, and the VCR where the cable box TV is *in the living room* doesn't work well), and it also carries the shows that I enjoy the most.

To each his own, I guess. XD

One of the reasons I ask is that I got hooked on anime from watching Anime Unleashed back in the day when it was still after Thunderbirds.I didn't even start watching Adult Swim until about a year or so after.
One of the questions that I think could be asked here is this:Do you think AU fans are geekier or nerdier than AS fans just because AU is on G4?

Not necessarily geekier. G4 isn't really a 'nerd' or a 'geek' channel anymore, by the common definition of the words. They cater to all sorts of people now, with all of the Whip Set and The Man Show now airing, the station isn't about games and technology anymore, and I don't like that. I personally miss TechTV, which was actually a really good channel (Why did they axe The Screensavers!?). I never got G4 when the two were still separate, so I can't really comment on G4 prior to the merger. But is just seems to me like G4 has gone down the same path as MTV. Like how MTV isn't just about music anymore, G4 isn't just about games and technology anymore.

Anyway, moving back on topic... I miss the old AU, it's where I learned about Dual!, Soul Taker, Gad Guard and Betterman, all of which I really like (and you really like Dual!, too. I can tell ^_^). Of course, now AU is crap, with Cromartie High and Rahxephon (sp?), neither of which especially interest me. G4 should get rid of Barbed Wire Biscuit and go back to the way things were. If AU gets better anime and if they start playing it daily again it might be better than AS once again.

You forgot about colorful dude. Wow that show is stupid. I still need to watch betterman lol after like 10 other series. For AS, it sucks outside of anime, big o, gigantor, family guy, and perfect hair.

I like AU because it seems more daring. After all, I doubt anyone else would've played Serial Experiments Lain or Boogiepop Phantom. And I love them for that.

That's why I used to like AU, but it's gone downhill since it became a part of Barbed Wire Biscuit.

Well they did add RahXephon.I agree though with rocklobster that they tend to show series that you might not ordinarily get to see, especially on AS.Though I did like it better when they were on at 10 every Mon.-Fr. and Midnight every Sun.

I think AU is more tilted toward the serious Sci Fi fan,ar at least it was with shows like Crest of the Stars,Banner of the Stars,Geneshaft and now RahXephon.Truth to be told probably the only two shows that really don't fit the pattern are Colorful and Cromartie High.

Well, let's see...AS made me first realize that anime existed and had a name (along with Pokemon...). AS also shows FMA. AS is good.

But AU shows Cromartie High....AU is good...

...I like both, really. Although neither show shojou-ish anime, which is the type of stuff I REALLY like...XD

I think I'm glad I started out with AU as I'm more into Sci Fi.
