How Do You Watch Your Anime DVDs?

Postby mitsuki lover » Fri Jan 20, 2006 12:18 pm

Out of curiosity how does everyone here watch their anime DVD collections?
Do you watch one disc at a time or do you watch only those that belong to one title first before starting another one or are you like me and do you rotate watching one episode from a different disc every so often?
Also how often do you watch?
And do you watch just the dub or just the sub or do you watch one first and go back later and watch the other?

I tend to watch the things in my DVD collection after a long time has passed since the last time I saw it or if I'm showing it to a friend who hasn't seen that anime. I tend to stick to the same title for several discs or until that series is over. The first time I usually watch things in the sub version unless there are people around who prefer the dub (which happens most of the time). After seeing it in one version, I watch the other one to see if it is any better.

I watch the dubbed version first if I'm unfamiliar with the title. Then I watch the subtitled version to compare them. But usually, I'm familiar with the title, as I've not gotten up the nerve yet to spend money on something I haven't seen yet unless I know it's worth it.

I will watch a whole series at a time if I've purchased the box set or thinpak. If new individual volumes of a newer series come in while I am watching the box set I take a break and watch those.

For example:
I am currently watching the second box set of The Twelve Kingdoms and I'm about half way through it. I've received notice that Ah! My Goddess volume 3, Bottle Fairies volume 2, Shingu volume 2 and Princess Tutu volume 3 have shipped. If they arrive tomorrow or Monday then I will take a break from Twelve Kingdoms and watch those 4 volumes and then go back. When I get to the end of any given series, if I liked it enough I watch it all the way through again. I usually go back after a couple of years and watch a series again. I generally watch the dubbed format lately. Been awhile since I've watched much subtitled works.

I tend to watch a whole series at a time. I either have seen part of the series and buy the whole thing at once and watch it in order, or I buy one DVD at a time and watch the whole thing at once. When I go back and rewatch stuff I tend to watch something exclusively and finish it (or just stop watching it) before I watch something else.

I watch my DVDs on the TV. That's how.

Oh, wait, you meant sequential method. Usually whole series or boxes. Rarely do I bounce back and forth from series to series; I get in a rut typically and watch stuff all the way through.

I like a lot of variety, so I watch multiple series at once, usually one episode at a time. However, if I get really addicted to a show, then I'll marathon it and watch nothing else till I finish it. Gundam Seed, Aura Battler Dunbine, Marmalade Boy, Boys Over Flowers, Trigun, and Fushigi Yugi come to mind. But otherwise, I just give myself almost a normal TV lineup. I usually watch one Ranma episode a week, since I just can't marathon that show; same with Maison Ikkoku, Kimagure Orange Road, etc.

So, at any one time, I'm usually watching 15-20 series, but I've had most of those DVDs for over a year and I just slowly watch everything off and on.

I only have 1 dvd boxed set so far. Soooooo, on my first watch, I'll watch it from start to finish. Then, I'll usually go back through and watch it subbed. After that, I usually just skip around and watch whatever episodes I feel like watching. :D

When I get a whole set, I gobble it up, usually over a period of a week's time.

Nowadays, I buy volumes as they are released. When that happens, I watch the one disc over and over until the next volume is released, or until I get another volume from a different series. (And ad infinitum. And this is why the people at the DVD store like me.)

I watch my anime movies quite often. A Series, not so much. But when I do, not even sleep can stop me from finishing it! When borrowing multiple animes from friends, I skip alllll over the place.

I go through a whole series before moving on. I generally watch 1 DVD a day.

I watch 'em as I buy them. XD Usually I sit down and watch the entire DVD unless I don't have enough time.

Since DVD's cost so much, I usually "take in" the experience and watch an episode every other day. I also watch the sub first and go back to see how the voices sound in the dub. I rotate the series depending on my mood and how many DVD's I purchased.

I get most of my anime from netflix, so it's cheaper to watch it all at once so you can get through your queue quicker.

I watch them as I buy them. I do watch the series in sequential order until I'm finished with it. Then when I'm done I usually have a lull in anime watching/purchasing and will pick up something new later. Then I might pick up a previous series I haven't watched in a long time.
