Free manga on the net?

Postby teen4truth » Sat Jan 21, 2006 10:45 am

I have never read a manga (I've read some Pokemon stuff but I am not sure if it was actual manga or not), and I don't really have a store near me that sells lots of manga, so I was wondering, is there like a web site on the net that you can get free manga from? I was just at this one place that looked like it but I was afraid to upload any of the files cuz I don't want me com to get hurt.

Generally no. There are scanlations around. But pretty much like anime being liscened or not. If the manga is available in the United States, then generally it would be illegal to download that manga scanlation somewhere

Now if this is like a manga title that is not out in the US and you cannot buy not (Nor if it is even liscensed by the company) then it would be somewhat okay to download that title.

i personally like mave's webmanga, http://www.kcome.net

megatokyo is also fun, they sell the books in the stores but you can also view the comics on the official website free (and legally) at http://www.megatokyo.com

There are very minor amounts of company-sponsored manga on the web, if that's what you're interested in. Tokyopop's website (http://www.tokyopop.com) has a short preview of almost all of their manga if you browse their titles. They also have a fair amount of manga online at http://www.tokyopop.com/mangaonline/ but those are typically not Japanese-made series.

Thankx guys, the links are much apreciated. Yall rock my face off.

Update: I am looking at Mave's Kindgom Come thing right now, and I am really excited! It looks awesome! Though I am surprised that there is swearing...though things like gangsterism and whatnot I do not mind if it is being looked at through a Christian percpective.

It's a little off-topic since it's not free, but you can sometimes find manga on ebay and half.com. I don't know if you like ordering things from online (I know I don't. I prefer to buy locally unless I just can't find it locally), but I just thought I'd offer the suggestion.
