Gundam Seed...

Postby dreamhacker » Fri Jan 13, 2006 10:27 am

I've just downloaded the first episode of the series and watched it...But, I get the feeling there is something I should have seen before this, where you get to know how Athrun and Kira know each others...Or am I wrong?

Unless you downloaded Gundam Seed Destiny instead of the original Gundam Seed, then no...there's nothing else. The story will flesh out and you'll find out more about the characters as the show goes on. It's been a while since I saw the first one, but I'm pretty sure I remember enough to understand what you mean. Hang in there and they'll reveal more stuff.

It's the original Gundam Seed...Found out I had to see that before Destiny, as it was too confusing not knowing anything of the original :P
Anyways, you're probably right, it was just something that made me feel there was something I had missed, the way they spoke of "what will happen now that Athrun and Kira meets again in the battlefield?" or something like that at the end :)

Good choice of anime to watch. :thumb:
The point about Athrun and Kira is to show how war can separate even the best of friends.
I should add that this gets to be rather one of those shows that turns out to be a emotional roller coaster ride.A lot of good people are going to get killed before the end.
Stick with it though.
btw:As far as I know with the exeption of Seed and Destiny most of the Gundam series are totally separate and stand alone from each other.

No the original Mobile Suit Gundam, Gundam 8th MS Team, Gundam 0080, Gundam 0083, Zeta Gundam, Char's Counterattack, and Gundam F91 are all in the Univeral Century.:P Which cover like 40 years or something of time.

Yojimbo's right - most Gundam series are part of a single timeline. Things like Seed, Wing, and G Gundam are the 'weirdoes'.

Seed is basically a rehash of the original Gundam. Characters are renamed, the chara are bigger wimps. That's about it.

lol thats an understatement. that show was really really good but like you said it was a very emotional series....i think it is about the only anime that i have seen where the series is compleatly serious. i will admit i even cried on the last episode. but either way i agree. its a very good choice to watch.

Have to agree there. I saw nothing special about SEED it was pretty cookie cutter as fas as Gundam series goes. Even alot of the Gundams look the same as ones in the Universal Century but 'futurized.' Zeta Gundam, Gundam Wing, Gundam 0080, and 8th MS Team are all much better.

Finally, people who agree with me on Gundam Seed! I was beginning to think I was the only person in the world who disliked it.

Well I've posted a couple times that I think SEED is deffinetly one of the weaker series in the Gundam universe. And each time I can't get a good solid answer from SEED fans telling me why it's so good or how it's better than other Gundam series.:P I've found that *most* people who really like SEED haven't seen Wing, 8th MS Team, Zeta, 0080, etc. so it's no real suprise I guess.

I have only seen Seed and Wing:Endless Waltz I am going to see the first regular Wing episode hopefully on Sunday night with a DVD.
I like Seed because I like the characters and I also think it does a good job of portraying how war destroys lives.

Sorry to nicpick, but you did forget to list one in the UC timeline. Gundam ZZ, which takes place after Zeta Gundam and then Char's Counterattack is after that one.

If you want to go that route, you should throw Victory Gundam in there as well. Yojimbo only listed the UC titles that are available in North America.

Unlike some of the comments here it does seem that Seed has become one of the most popular of the Gundam series and has in fact become the center of it's own
franchise within a franchise. Not only do we have Seed but also Destiny and the manga series Astray, also there is a rumored third Seed series in the works in Japan,so we are not yet done with the saga of the Natural versus Coordinator War.
