I wouldn't read too much into it. It's hard to say what the typical Japanese read would infer from the hat. Cloths with English on them are popular in Japan, regardless of what they say.
Akamatsu may like the band, but it is doubtful he'd understand the lyrics. I don't know if that would influence him in either way, though.
WASP may also, as GhostOnTheNet pointed out, may be there as a hint to Sarah's personality and role in the anime.
It could also be a reference to WASP meaning White Anglo-Saxon Protestant - indicating Sarah's American heritage.
All of those, I think are reasonable, but I don’t know which, if any, are true.
