yeah it seemed very real up until the creator admitted it, they slowed the game down and did multiple recordings then spliced together at frames that were near identical.

and for this some of the jump techniques are questionable, obviously its not pure legit as he uses the rabbit to jump through several doors.

Actually, if you've played the game, you'd know that the rabbit glitch IS possible.

I'm not saying it was definitely true. I was just saying that the rabbit glitch doesn't make it false.

Yeah some of those jumps on the Bowser levels were too out there to be real. No possible way a pro could do that straight either without dying. Deffinetly some saved states in an emulator used.

Please note that the creator actually calls this a "time attack." That means he isn't claiming to have actually sat down and done it, merely that he has created an incredibly fast play-through of the game. "Time trial" is the term for a real gamer using unassisted skills. The only thing that counts as cheating is modifying the game or splicing together video (that is, doing something that really is impossible).

Sync wrote:yeah it seemed very real up until the creator admitted it, they slowed the game down and did multiple recordings then spliced together at frames that were near identical.

The same applies. It could theoretically be done. In any case, it was moderately amusing, if you have the time on your hands.

...for all these comments, I haven't actually watched the video. I'll have to wait until I have the time, which could be a while.

browsing around the site that this movie is a part of (linked on side of video), it appears they think of their videos more as art to be admired than only "do it as fast as you can", which is how they justify the use of tools to rerecord sections they make mistakes on

This was my favorite mario game. After beating it, a friend and I would challenge (as well as talking with people online) each other to unusual solutions to getting stars or just general challenges that weren't intended by the game makers. We never got into speed challenges, though. Very cool video to watch :).

Yeah, this is by far my favorite game of all time, just because of stuff like that. I've went for 120 stars at least 4 times and have constantly discovered new ways to explore that beautifully glitchy game world. If only all games were this much fun to run around in.

But yeah, this video is awesome, regardless of its truth. For any true Mario 64 fan, it simply reminds you why you appreciate the game so much already.

I wonder if there are more videos like these? They're fun to watch.

well yes that site has quite a few, don't see any others for Mario 64 unfortunately, but covers some great classic games :)

Their recommended videos are here
can follow links at the bottom of the page for more.

This site is known for its collections of 'real' speed runs unassisted by emulator tools as this one was.

Can find more links from wikipedia's entry on speed runs.

These quickie games make me wanna sit back and watch the whole game being done without me havign to lift a finger^^ Hey, if they didn't have anything better to do but have ALOT of time on their hands and play the game, why not take advantage and watch their skills? ...even if some are fake :/

*ish watchign Super Mario Bros 2 in 12 mins now* Now THIS one's possible cause the guy's actually got hit a couple times by mistake. But his timed jumpign is amazing!

Super Mario World in 12 mins is amusing too. Heh, use the cape to fly across the levels... use keys... yeah it's possible.

Is this the glitched run of Mario64 that was posted on forums.ebaumsworld.com a week and a half ago?

OT: The mario3 run wasn't totally fake... in theory, it's possible, it's just that they savestated every 10 seconds or so.

Why Miyamoto put in such an annoying sound effect for the *jump* sound in a *platformer* still puts a question mark above my head.

The Mario 3 run is very possible, even the 10:30 one. There are some real gamers who can get close to that time, though not to the style.

Speaking of other videos, the first Megaman one is ridiculous to watch, simply due to how much glitching is exploited. He had a bot running for some parts, but it doesn't really show. Anyone who has ever struggled on that game will be a bit sad watching it slaughtered.

Having now seen the video for Mario 64, I can say that it was a worthwhile use of my time. His acrobatics are rather clever at some points, and I enjoyed seeing how he got most of the stars so quickly.

Yeah, the Super Mario World in 10:36 is the same way. I mean, tool-assisted is one thing, but that was just...I dunno. Bleh.

Yep, that was my only reason for getting a DS when it launched. But it certainly isn't as good as the original, due to the difficulty in controlling the characters using the thumb strap. Mario 64 can only be played with an analog stick.
