Full Metal Alchemist: Anime or Manga?

Postby Tommy » Tue Jan 03, 2006 1:54 pm

For those of you that don`t know FMA`s manga and anime have seperate arcs and different characters but the storyline in all is the same. Do you like the anime or manga better?

EDIT: This might be a little hard since the manga isn`t done, but try to guess from what you`ve seen.

Presuming the manga doesn't make a drastic change that I dislike, the manga rather easily. It feels much better written to me, and the plot is overall deeper and more involving.

To illustrate, the issue with Greed is handled in a very different manner in the anime than in the manga. In the manga, it is one tightly-knit event that contains many important elements and a few interesting fight sequences. The anime spreads this out over time, including some awkward plot shifts to make everything work, and then removes a few of the good parts (though at least it adds a fight between Ed and Greed).

Yeah, I noticed that, they should of involved more plot with Greed, the anime seemed lacking in that regard.

The manga is awsome! I watched only a few episodes of the anime. I'd like to see more. But I heard that Ling wasn't in the anime. and Ling is a pretty intresting charachter.

In that Greed's death seemed pretty pointless in the anime, it shouldn't be hard to handle his character better in the manga, but since I haven't read it I don't know.

I definitely feel it was handled better (not wonderfully, but at least it was used well). It was all the events surrounding it that entire incident struck me as superior.

Especially given the recent development with Father (my apologies if you are unaware of this). I honestly have little idea where the author is going to take it. And yes, he isn't in the anime.

Both are pretty good, but because I love reading, I'm going with the manga.

On a related note, has anyone read the FMA book that's often found next to the manga? It's a novelization of a few FMA episodes.

Yep, I plan on getting one of those for my birthday.

The first book has a title like "The Sands of something".

I heard it is very well-written.

I have not seen a lot, but from what I saw and read in the manga, I like the anime better.
This was a very tough choice though because I like them both very well. There were a couple of things from the anime that seemed to be more detailed and that is what helped me make my decision.
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone
And so hold on when there is nothing left in you
Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!' ...you'll be a Man, my son!

From my current knowledge, the person who writes the manga barely has anything to do with the anime. I`m pretty sure Square-Enix just took her character and story and just fooled around with them to make a different plot and WOLA: The anime.

I could be dead wrong.

You really shouldn`t choose the anime, unless you`ve read the manga.

Like you really shouldn't choose the manga, not unless you watched the Anime. It's the reverse. Some people watch the show first before ever reading the manga, then they get into the manga, etc.
