Kingdom Hearts... the anime!

Postby Tenshi no Ai » Wed Nov 16, 2005 8:54 am

Yeah you heard right! It may already be in manga form, but check it out: (animenewsservice.com)

"According to an interview with Square's Tetsuya Nomura (director of Kingdom Hearts II and Final Fantasy VII Advent Children) in an uncited overseas (outside Japan) magazine, an animation based on the game maybe forthcoming in the format of a theatrical film."

*sigh* Too bad Square didn't make anime based off OTHER games :/ Seriously, Last Order was sooo good! If they made maybe just a 26-ep series of FF7, watch the fans gobble it up!

Back to KH... knowing Disney's involved, and these plans DO go through, I wouldn't doubt that it would be in OUR theatres, widespread.

Any word on if the story will follow the game or be completely new and original? Plus, hopefully they'll be able to recruit all the Disney voice talents! Yeah this could indeed be very cool! However, the "look" of it may be more like a Disney movie rather than that of an anime since the game itself more or less looked Disney rather than anime per se'. Just my thoughts though! This could be coolio for sure. Peter Jackson is going to be to exec. producer on the Halo movie to insure artistic integrity; Vin Diesel signed up for Hitman; and Bloodrayne and Silent Hill are on the way! Lots of game movies in the works for sure, whether they'll be good quality/content will yet be seen!

I've wondered about that. I mean, when I saw the manga, I just knew they'd do this, but the styles are so different... or mayhap it is that it's an entirely new style? Anime meets Disney, hmm...

Wait, if it came here, who would have the rights to it? SE or Disney? O.o
If Disney did, it could be... *gulp*

I'm not surprised, given Square-Enix's recent trend of creating different franchises in multiple genres and mediums(see: The Compiliation of Final Fantasy VII, Full Metal Alchemist games/manga/anime, etc.)

I have doubts that they could cram a retelling of the game into 1.5 hrs however...

I could see that happening... just minimize the fighting and things and well, the manga IS only 4 SHORT volumes long. It's possible...

we may not all jive with Disney movies, at least the more recent ones, but I think many a fine anime fan may attest to the fact that watching Disney movies as a kid is partially what started their love of animation. Even if the stories in the Disney films these days aren't that amazing, you've gotta give em' props for their skill. The man who created Kimba the White Lion actually started doing anime because he was inspired by Disney's work back in the day.

Kingdom Hearts was a great game, but I wasn't interested enough to read the manga. Perhaps the anime will be good. I'm with you on the FFVII anime though. Last Order was awesome. I would definately gobble up a series.

I am typically very disappointed by the manga versions of action/adventure games (right now I am thinking of Legend of Zelda and Kingdom Hearts) and I imagine this will apply to the anime as well. While it is understandable that fighting will be minimalized, we still don't want to see incredibly cheap battles. Most of them seem to boil down to the protagonist running away while the "boss" attacks, then winning in a single blow after they realize something important. Most creators don't seem to understand that movies require an entirely different method of action sequences.

For Voice tallents, you can bet your life that Robin Williams will not sign on to do the Genie. He hates disney with a passion now, and Williams doing Genie is one of the few things that would actually get me to go and see this movie. Too bad.

Kingdom hearts as a show.....perhaps Cartoon Network..i could see that, but SE has other options that would do much better.

Dragon Quest series
Anime following FF7
Chrono Trigger series (It would be sorta hard since Crono is a mute)

But the anime based of an RPG I could see the best is Xenogears. The plot size is perfect for a series and there are already anime cutscenes and the whole "Riding a Giant Cyborg" concept seems to be pretty common these days.

Kingdom Hearts is a great game, but it wouldn`t make a good series.

Yes, in terms of sheer complexity, depth, and intricacies, Xenogears was hardcore! Perhaps one of the best stories in an rpg on the original Playstation! Just curious, why does Williams hate Disney now? I never heard anything about any kind of falling between the two of them. Yeah we'll just have to wait and see if any of this speculation/possible promises have any substance to them O.o

Oh really? Well he didn't seem to have a problem with all 3 Alladin movies :/

You can always expect them too pull a Tsubasa too: just hire a whole new VA staff that sounds at least quite similar to the original. Or just use the same VAs as off the game :/ I keep forgetting people like Lance Bass and Mandy Moore voiced on there :/ Oy... Yup, Disney's the only place where you can find a former member of NSync playing Sephiroth >_<

Only the first and the third actually. Disney payed him minimum union pay (still a huge ammount) for the first film, the condition being that his character, the genie, not make up more than 25% of the advertising, and take up no more than 25% of any movie poster. They broke this agreement on both counts. Williams was irate. He therefor refused to do the second movie. While making the 3rd movie, the person who had been responsible for the breech of contract left (or was fired, I cannot remember which) and a formal appologie was given. Williams then came and did the voice for the 3rd film (even though they had already recorded the whole film with the other actor.) This was mainly an act of spite towards the person who had left the company, and to this day, Williams holds resentment towards disney. If you havnt noticed, he was not in Kingdom hearts, nor will he be in the Kingdom Hearts 2. This is why I assume he would not be in the Kingdom hearts movie.

Hahahahahaha! So true! I couldn't believe they tainted Sephy by doing that...T.T How could they???

Anyways, I had a feeling this was coming. Probably because Disney has its hands on it. Anyways, I'm all for it if they don't mess it up, hah! I would definitely go see it, but I have to warn you all...A lot of movies (most of you know this anyways, hah) that are based off of video games are REALLY horrid, especially for the fans. Perhaps they've changed since Super Mario Bros. killed off any potential fans back in the 80's, but who knows. Anyways, here's hoping they have a good script and storyline. :D

Well it IS just an anime, not live action >_< Oy I remember seeing that old Mario movie back when I was 5 :/ Saw part of the Street Fighter movie and the characters looked pretty good.

Briefly saw it earlier this yeah and it was oy @_@ More be careful if they were makign it live-action really like the other dozen anime that's been rumoured to be doing so :/ (Knowing only Evangelion's been the ONLY real confirmed one that I think is JUST starting to film...)

*cough* And back to the topic...

I'm wondering that given the massive success of Advent Children if they won't try to make it all CG and less animation?

:/ If they did that it would be pretty effortless. Just string all the cut scnes together plus some stuff in between and there ya have it!

Well the cutscenes in KH I were pretty sub-par. Only the opening and ending were on the same leve as say the cut scenes in FFX or AC. I don't think that'd work to well. Plus, they could bring in the storyline from Chain of Memories.

What was Chain of Memories about anyways? When I looked at screenshots, it looked basically the same as the original game.

The "worlds" Sora visits are mostly the same.

However, the story is not. It takes place between KH and KHII.

Dan Castleneta voiced Genie in the second Aladdin movie as well as KH and the Aladdin tv series; he's the marvelous man behind..... dum dum dum... HOMER SIMPSON! He does a pretty good job though, in my opinion.

Yeah Lance Bass was good ol' Seph in KH1, but then again he never really said anything save the usually evil laughs and grunts during combat O.o

well according to previous posts, and sheer logic to some degree, we most likely will because Disney's involved. Who knows though? Again to some degree we don't even know if these claims that they're gonna make one will ever see fruition.

Has the manga been released in the States? I've been so far behind on it lately. =__= So far, in fact, that even the great tanemura-lover many of you know has not gotten her hands on KKJ *or* FMS 2 or 3. A travesty, I tell you!

Anyway, back on topic.

Yeha only volume one is out now I think. It's werid because it was orginally made as a left to right formatted book in Japan :/ And I'm pretty sure it's not manhwa. :/ Maybe they tried to Americanize it for them over there. A scary thought at that... that's like, if they give Disney the rights to animated the movie :/

Yeah, volume one is out, I saw it at the bookstore about two weeks ago. I flipped through it...I didn't really care for it though. You don't notice it in the video game, but when you see it in print...the art styles are so completely different, it just doesn't look right together to me.

That, and overuse of the whole giant mouth/eyes popping out syndrome. Groan.
