My First Anime Con!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Postby firestorm » Sat Nov 05, 2005 10:55 am

Hey guys there are a couple of anime festivals going on this weekend. I've never been to an anime con before so is there anything I should watch out for????? (like do they sell hentai stuff over there, I'll run away from those if there is.) Also what is there that you can do????
Come check my facebook fan page here If you want to see some great photography and art!

I am currently on my 4th draft of the script for Canvas! Canvas is a watercolor animated short about how everything declares of a Creator and how everything happens for a reason. If anyone would like to help by sending me resources on watercolor or animation it would be greatly appreciated!

I am also on my 1st draft of a short live-action Romcom called "Behind Every Good Man! Behind Every Good Man is about a Bride-to-be, Evelyn, who must stop her Mother-in-Law, Pamela, from living her dream wedding through Evelyn's. Along the way she learns what it means to be a Woman of Integrity today! If anyone wants to help let me know!

Yes, some booths sell hentai stuff, but remember, anime conventions are for all ages, so they usually don't have it openly displayed or anything. They mostly have them in bins marked "hentai" or the like.

And at a convention, you basically just walk around, waste money on anime stuff, and check out the anime viewings and cosplay contests and voice actor panels.

Yeah. Cons rock.

Absolutely.

Just remember to watch your money. It's easy to get overwhelmed the first afternoon and have nothing to buy food with the rest of the con.

I just came back from it now. It's not really my cup of tea but it was different you know. The guy I went with he went his own way a little bit after we got there so it was mostly me and my mom looking at stuff to buy and shopping after a while got boring. I did buy some stuff (a kenshin calendar for myself, and collection of Naruto character keychains for my brothers, cousin, and my friends) but really I did get kinda bored after a while. I mean one can get bored after a while of shopping unless your in a big grop or with close friends. The con was more like a festival (that was in its name but also bpeaople were telling me that) It wasn't BIG so not much to do I mean besides shopping it's either go watch anime in the screening room or talk to the artist and THAT'S IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! like besides that you can go watch some demonstrations outside. When we got there they had sumo-wrestling, but the rest of the stuff was like stlying your hair like anime style and another thing was like they took people from the crowd and did rock paper scissors. Which I thought was weird to do as an eent. The artists were cool like I learned alot ALOT from them and they gae me some websites to checkout for resources and tutorial sutff to help me draw and they talked about comicbooks and movies to go check if I want to check out how to do backgrounds and how to set up scenes and stuf like that. Anyways he was very into comicbook stuff and we really talked alot It was cool and everything but it wasn't my cup of tea.

yeah but to me it's like why do something that I can do at home and that's why I took that off my to do list. I originally went to go find some tutorial books on how to draw anime and manga but I didn't find any there. Oh well, to bad for me. I wouldn't mind going again when I become the artist though ^-^; lol. I'll give my stuff out for free instead of selling it!

I just wanna know if any of you guys will be going to any down here then I would go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I need a big group of friends to enjoy it I guess. and plus I finally get to meet you guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and I finally get to meet Inkhana!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (and get a copy of her comicbook whenever it comes down) I had an Idea of doing a ChristianCon. That would be a cool tool to evangelize with right? bring all the anime fans to get know the christian anime and manga universe, but also have for all types of people as well. Like have skateboarding shows and concerts and raping competitions and a whole lotta stuff (of course costume competitions too both original and cosplay.) but also have a pastor preaching that would be cool we could have my pastor preach that would be awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:| When I went to my first con, my mom was afraid of the cosplayers and misfortune of misfortunes, she watched a Samurai X music video that the creator took the liberties to make as gory as possible. Also, I spent too much money. ;__; Stupid overpriced merchandise. Needless to say, I never went to one again.

Moral of the story: Don't take your parents if you can help it and if they are prone to be violent against anime anyway. Take like...a responsible older cousin or something.

Was cosplay a big thing at the thing you went to firestorm? cosplay is quite honestly one of the key things that makes cons have their "spark" and as fun as they are. Not to make a blanket statement, but I've found that most people that don't cosplay at a con of any significant size where it's a relatively dominant factor, tend to not enjoy it as fully as they could because it's something that usually such a huge part of most cons. Btw, what area do you live in? I'm going to be going to Sakura Con in Seattle next March with like 6 friends, all of whom are Christians, so if you're going to that, we should meet up! Just a side note, and just my opinion, to make a "Christian" anime con, would ultimately prolly be more of a problem just due to so many differing opinions on so many different anime and whatever issues encompass those shows. Plus having a "Christian" anime con would automatically, and most likely, give the wrong impression (though we wouldn't intend that) of exclusivity; basically the odds of attracting non-believers would most likely be decreased if they were to know it was a "Christian" anime con. I dunno, just seems like it'd put the whole concept of "salt and light" on the back burner. Just my thoughts though..... O.o
