I'd like to reccomend the series "battle doll angelic layer", There is almost no thing bad about this series, except it may be a bit childish

you might enjoy .hack//SIGN, which is a little confusing, but clean, and any "demons" are only characters in a game (MMORPG)

Samuri 7 is another clean one, lots of sword fighting, but there may be an issue with the nature of the "bandits"...

Tsubasa Resivoir Chronicle, some magic/violence, but squeeky clean otherwise

DNAngel might be good for you, while it does have magic, there is no nudity that I have seen

I actually reccomend that you be careful with (read avoid) series like Full Metal Alchemist (theological issues), Cowboy Bebop (profainity with Faye's outfit), Bleach ("ghosts" and other such things), Wolf's Rain(many theological issues), and Fooly Cooly (innuendo galore) (I have never watched this, but i've heard bad stories...).

Yeah, you are not the only one who struggles with the nudity issue. While the whole mythology demon thing doesn't really bother me, the nudity thing does. Thus, I have worked hard to avoid nudity as much as possible in the series that I watch, which can be difficult considering the Japanese culture.

You say avoid Full Metal Alchemist yet your avatar is of Edward Elric, the Full Metal Alchemist?

Yeah, Fooly Cooly is really BAD! Stay away at all costs! I've seen a few episodes... a few episodes too many to be exact. One episode is too many with that series.

Just to warn you...R.O.D. (the OVA) has nudity in opening sequence and hints of yuri (lesbianism.) And though there is no nudity in the show Haibane Renmei has some in the end credits. Nothing is shown though.

I am just saying that the author of this topic should avoid it, due to their seeming issues of theology and and the use of "alchemy". I personally think that though the begining is rather anti-christian, the series is redeemable by the metaphorical struggle against sin and Ed's realization that humans aren't really as powerful or cheap as they seem to be.

I tried to show this at an anime club (at a Christan school) once and nobody could get past the first few episodes. I decided to give the series as a whole some thought, and the above is the conclusion that I came to. It's like me telling the author that they should avoid Inuyasha because of the demon issue, yet I personally enjoy Inuyasha.

yeah, okay. I was just wondering about that, is all. You probably should have mentioned that part too, though, so he could make his discision based on that. Its all I'm saying. I mean, you could hate an anime and not want a friend to get interested in it so you tell them only the bad things about it and none of the possitives or how it gets better later on. See what I'm saying? Present all the facts, not just some... I don't mean to sound ugly. Sorry if I do.

Anyway, yeah, it does have a that in the beginning episodes. Its interesting, and keeps me pondering what's wrong, how its wrong, and what it should be. It makes you think.

Yeah, I forgot about the opening sequence (ROD). Sorry.

And I think Fantasy Dreamer said to avoid Cowboy Bebop. This is my fav anime, but it is not the best when it comes to sexual content. The worst episodes are Jupiter Jazz Part 1 and 2. If you happen to see the anime, avoid these.
But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith-- that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.

I recommended Wolf's Rain with a link to my review.

O and about Rurouni Kenshin, there is some controversy under the Christian Arc and the Buddhist statues everywhere, but you have to realize it's historical fiction and the Christian events really did happen...and of course there are buddhists and buddha statues in Japan. What's good though is that buddhism isn't "glorified" in Rurouni Kenshin.

Sorry if this is going too off topic...<<^_^;

I never really understood why a lot of people don't like the first part of Full Metal. Of course, I don't agree with Edward in his atheism, and I don't like how he says to put down the scriptures and pick up a science book. However, I always saw his rebellion against Cornello and this "sun god" as a good thing. Cornello was definitely a false prophet, and the sun god definitely isn't the God that we worship as Christians. I can see the theological issues, what with Edward's atheism, but I don't really understand why anyone would be offended by rebellion against a false god and a false prophet. If this is straying too far from the topic, sorry! n.n PM me a response if it is...>.>;

Oh, and another anime that you may find clean enough is Superbook, which is actually a Christian anime...I used to watch it all the time! n.n Anyways, hope that helps!

InuYasha isn't Demon, since the real japanese translation goes to beast (Youkai), but since Japanese itself is a complex language, mythology and words don't do well with translating it to English! Stupid conservative Hicks!

Actually, youkai, oni and a lot of Japanese mythology creatures are just translated as "demon" so they would sound more intimidating. The closest to the Biblical demon I think is "akuma".

The local dubs here translate it more efficiently as "halimaw"(monster/beast).

Try Rurouni Kenshin. It's not "fantasy" so there aren't supernatural beings (including gods)...some near-nudity like shoulders and bare-chested men at the hot tub scenes but it's an extremely clean series.

That's precisely the reason why RK will always remain to be my favorite series. It had everything I wanted: I could watch it in front of my mother and not flinch, it has no demons, it has no supernatural or otherworldly powers, it has good sword fights, it has awesome characters, it's all about old Japan, it has a great story.

The MS Gundam series (the earlier ones) have several kissing scenes, but everybody stays dressed. ^^

The genre notorious for the fanservice are those they call harem anime, one guy mixed in with many girls (Fruits Basket, Love Hina are classic and cleaner examples). If you stay clear of those, you'll have a lot of objectionable content out of the way. Fantasy anime also has a tendency to have fanservice.

If you have to buy/rent DVDs, maybe this would help. If you see skimpy clothes on the characters in the cover and back art, chances are high there will be plenty of it in the anime. If the characters are fully clothed, they most likely will be in the whole series.

Hope that helps.

While I've only seen the first 2 or 3 discs of FMA, sometimes it's good to put things into perspective, maybe jump into the character's shoes for a moment. Just because Ed's got an issue with God/religion, doesn't necessarily mean that the show itself is pushing that agenda or encouraging it. I mean, really, if you were in a round-a-bout way responsible for your mom's death and the "ruining" of your brother's or a loved one's life and you were as young as him (and also not a Christian), God may in fact be one of the first things you'd wanna shift blame to for how craptacular your life was right there. I dunno, just my thoughts on the matter O.o........ <eva-boy shrinks back into a corner in hopes of being ignored to some degree>

If u r trying to recommend FMA it rocks but it is violent and two other things is parents might not like the transmutation circles (cuz they look like pentagrams) and parents might not like the humonculy (or how ever u spell that feel free to correct me) cuz they represent the 7 deadly sins but still it is an awsome series.

.hack//sign is a good one, though you'll need to be, um, kinda "intellectual" to really get (and be patient as well).

One Piece does have a little fanservice and slight nudity at one point, but nothing is really shown. The only "demon" refrences is some attack names (like "onigiri") and the "Akuma no Mi" (Devil's Fruit), though the "mystery" of these has yet to be explained.

Has anyone mentioned 'Gunslinger Girl' yet? It's rather bloody - kind of like 'Noir' in that the body count stacks up pretty high, but unlike 'Noir' they actually show the blood/bullet holes. But there's no demons! Not a one in the whole series. Or nudity - at least nothing that I can remember.

However, it's incredibly sad emotionally since it's about little girls who are given cypbernetic enhancements and trained in combat so they can help an elite squad called 'section 2' take out terrorists. Who'd suspect a little girl, right?

'Full Moon Wo Sagashite' is also clean, adorable, and far less bloody though it's geared more for a younger female audience.

Hope that helps!

That is true about anime girls, but in the unique case of Gunslinger Girl, it's more specifically about the precious innocence of childhood/girlhood vs. supposed "justness" of science/techology. This is something that hasn't really been tapped into regarding anime, at least to the degree that Gunslinger does it in my opinion. The couple times I cried during the show were mainly to thinking about how awful I'd feel if I had a daughter that had to experience/see even half the stuff those girls are put through (minus the cybernetic enhancements) emotionally and mentally. Anyways...... <stands in the corner very quietly thinking he may have said too much>

However, ironically, Gunslinger Girl COMPLETELY missed a more interesting plot point by avoiding the question entirely of "Is it RIGHT to take these girls and turn them into emotionless killing machines?" That's a huge moral quandry right there that would've made for some interesting plot development, and Gunslinger Girl just ignores it completely...go figure. :eyeroll:

many people have talked about Full Metal Alchemist and i love that one!! it does'nt really bother me about the transmutation circles because they are not pentagrams or how ever you spell them. the only problem i had with it is the first episode where ed does'nt believe in god. but i've been told that he changes his mind later on in the series. Full Metal Alchemist is my first anime i've bought and trust me its awesome!!

and as for the seven sins i think they represent evil and i guess you're suppose to be fighting these right. but i've only seen a couple of episodes but i think it is awesome!!! GO FMA !!!:jump:

In a direct sense it does, but I actually think it does cover this in how you see Jose treat Henrietta and how their relationship affects the other fratellos around them. Especially at the end of the last disc, we see some big changes in Marco's perceptions....won't say anymore due to spoilers. I think this issue is then actually covered, though it's not actually verbally discussed in the show; it's more seen in the characters and their various interactions with the girls. For example some of the brothers treat their girls like machines/tools, thus you can see their mindset that technology rules, but in Jose's case, while he's still part of the organization of it all, at the root of things, he tries to give Henrietta as much of a normal life as possible. So that's just my thoughts on the matter. The issue is covered, but perhaps on a more subconscious level :-)

FMA, yeah, I recommend that too. As for problems with Ed's atheism, well, we're gonna have to get used to the fact that not everyone is Christian. And plus, he's fake. So it doesn't bother me at all. And the transmutation circles don't even look like pentagrams. Honestly. A pentagram is an upside-down fice-pointed star and the transmutation circles are upside-down triangles.

Yes he changes his mind because he realizes that yes, some things should be left to God/don't cross into God's territory etc. At least, that's how it appears. ^___^
