what type of online game?
if it's a multiplayer game page-based, the best bet is to use ASP.Net or PHP with sql server in the background

if it's a one player, but graphically intensive game, use flash, java, or even javascript (a friend of mine did 3D tetris in javascript.

i could give you info on ASP.net, and a little javascript, but that's it.

To be brutal, if you have to actually ask how to, chances say it'll be a LONG time until you can even start with most basic of games, like naughts and crosses, and one that's not even online based. Long time being years in learning programming concepts and actually getting used to a usable language enough to actually be able to pull it off.

But don't give up yet! If you really want to make games then I would strongly suggest you visit a nearby college or uni or whatnot for a crash on a programming course, then decide if you can really take the abuse of trying to make a game yourself.

"Noughts and Crosses" Wow. Haven't heard that in forever. Let's translate that for the poor under educated in the US.

"Tic-Tac-Toe"

(I know, NaC is the original name, but no one here will know what you/re talking about, thought, so I figured you'd rather have them get the metaphore).

Thanks for the help Mith~~

Just incase you don't get even that, the game looks like this;

o | x | o
------------
-x-|-x-|-x-
----------
o | o |
