Vandread?

Postby Myoti » Sat Oct 29, 2005 6:31 pm

Okay, for my b-day I got alot of things I wanted, buy my mom also did something I was afraid of... she bought a random anime DVD for me.

This specific one is Vandread. I know zilch about it and it's in the middle of the series (eps. 11-13) so I'm not sure whether I should try to watch it or take it back. :?:

Well, could someone give me a lowdown on it?
What's it about? How is it? Any questionable content? How long is it?

My mom got them somewhere for only a couple of bucks, so I might be able to get more if it's good. I just couldn't find anything on it from the reviews here.

Questionable content is high...the ending credits consist of the main male character getting flashed by women, etcetera. Jiggle 'n bounce factors are veeeeeery high, and the whole thing is geared toward rampant fanservice of all kinds. The gals hang out all over, bottom line. Not to mention a weak plot with cliched characters and concepts. Much, much better anime out there. Vandread is not worth it, but that's just my opinion. Too much sexual junk, not enough substance. Meh.

No offense to Vandread fans. ;)

>_< I saw it awhile ago and this is the content from memory:

It does have alot of fanservice in the regard that GP has already mentioned; but that being said, the characters are so naive and innocent (because men and women live on different planets).
There is also allusions to homosexual relationships (once again, because men and women live on different planets. They have had no contact with one another for decades and decades, and the only way for each gender to survive was to create babies from DNA from two 'parents'. The women carried and gave birth to the babies the normal way, and I guess the guys grew them in test tubes or something...)

One last thing, eps 11-13 of Vandread are the end of the 1st season, so you'll be getting big fights and would've missed majority of the character development that happened in the earlier episodes. In other words, it won't make much sense.

It is true about the fanservice and the skirting of rather homosexual ideas, but also understand that all this is done without being lewd and lucid, if you can actually believe that. And saving for one minor pairing, all this ends with the main characters in very heterosexual relationships.

If you are a fan of Sci-Fi, you ought to enjoy Vandread. I think GP is a little hard on it, personally. There is fanservice, but not more so than is pretty common in anime comedies. There's no nudity or foul language and there's no sex.

If you're not a fan of Sci-Fi, then this won't likely be a good watch for you.

I personally enjoyed the series very much. I thought it had a good story and likeable characters that made the story very worth-watching.

I'm not much into Sci-fi stuff but I really enjoyed Vandread!

I agree w/ termyt that Vandread had a good story and likeable characters. True, there is a few fan service aspects here and there, which is in my opinion much less then Love Hina. It's quite tamed.

This show has nice animation and a moderately interesting plot, but I don't think that's enough to excuse the fact that the entire show is practically one big double entendre.

I thought it was a very funny series, with some decent scifi mecha action. Oh, there are some running double-entendres, but unless you're unusually sensitive and easily offended, there should be no problem.

It's funny that all of the sexual references are from a standpoint of innocence and naïveté.

Only by the strict defintion of the term. They show everything but what 'counts' as far as nudity goes.

As for innocence, I just don't see it. Those ending credits were far from innocent.

I enjoyed Vandread. It was quite a likable series, the animation was pretty good, and I enjoyed the characters. The plot wasn't particularly deep, but interesting enough. And I didn't see it as having excessive fanservice, there is some, but it didn't detract from my enjoyment of the series.

Yea this is one you gotta watch all the way through if you can. fanservice is high with the main character being one of the only 3 (I think) males in the series.

It does have quite a bit of fanservice as has been said before. I found this series quite interesting even though the main character was probably one of the most annoying anime characters ever. I think it had one of the most interesting concepts behind the show that I've ever seen. They didn't put it togather really well but there was a ton of potential for the main idea behind the series. All together I would say that if you're fine with Full Metal Panic you'd be fine with this. I think that they have pretty much close to the same amount of offensive material.

I've seen the whole series and enjoyed it very much. The whole idea behind the series is that men and women know absolutely nothing about each other. The men think the women are monsters who eat men alive (they weren't that far off) and the women think men are... well, animals and idiots (now where have I heard that before?). They are then forced to co-exist in a strange ship. This makes for some very funny situations. And the battle scenes and animation are good.

BUT, when all is said and done you are still left with a lot of fanservice. It is not as bad as some of the animes out there, but it is not "innocent" either. I borrowed the anime from a friend and skipped some of the fanservice. I doubt I'd buy it for myself. You have episodes in the middle of the two series, I'd recommend you trade it. Watching them on their own would be pointless. Good luck
But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith-- that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.

I agree with Boerson. It is actually a pretty good anime but there's quite a bit of fanservice. I think that it's worth a watch but don't bother buying it. Trade it in for something you'd like more.
