Wolf's Rain ending...

Postby Tenshi no Ai » Tue Oct 25, 2005 8:51 am

So finally got to borrow all the DVDs from my friend and she mentioned that the ending was supposed to be "uhhh..." (according to reviews she read on the net). I myself wasn't completely satisfied with it, since the last disk was like watched X/1999 the movie all over again! Anyways from here on out are spoils so unless you've seen up to ep 30, then doing spoil it for yourself! (Trust me...) But I have a question abotu the interpretation of the ending...
Well when things started off with Cher's death I was like "Noooooo! Her and Hubb were finally getting back on track!" Then ya know Toboe and Quent die, then Hubb, then Hige and Blue... then Tsume... then Darcia was killed by... was that the door to Paradise? Then Cheza "dies" and Kiba's on the brink of dying. But why would he repeat the words "There's no such thing as Paradise WHEN THE DOOR WAS ONLY A FEW FEET AWAY FROM HIM?! Unless he was talking figuratively since everyone he cared about was gone :/
So then ok Cheza's a bunch of seeds now and they grow to what forms "Paradise". Up until that point I was thinking that maybe it would revive everyone and they'd come abck and find themselves in Paradise, or maybe being all dead together, they were in "Paradise" but nooo! Kiba falls in and dies and then everyone shows up back in the city. Now my BIG question here, is was that city supposed to be the past, before anyone knew anyone,. or the future with the "new earth" that was created by Cheza's seeds and that "Paradise"? Hmmm then the ending takes off where the opening starts so... it's a bit of a head-scratcher there. The ending actually reminds me of Revaltions in a sense, with the whole "descrution of the earth to create a new one". I guess that theme's in ALOT of anime and villans use that idea so they can "play God" and create their own world. Guess cults do that alot too :/ *scratches head* what's probably more confusing than this anime ending is the thought of a "new heaven" AND a "new earth".
So back to Wolf's Rain, when Darcia's eye turned the water black and seems to taint the flower, maybe that was tryign to point out "world isn't a perfect place" so things went back to normal rather than perfect? Hmm... I just wished with everythign they went through JUST LET THEM MAKE IT T PARADISE! But of course they didn't REALLY...
So that's about all my rambling... umm any help? :/ And what were your thoughts on this... ending?
The main thing about Paradise is, as you know, who opens the door. You might say that Paradise is the "remaking" of the world, and depending on the character/heart of who opens the door, the world will be reborn as such. In response to your question, I would say that the city scenes were in fact the new world that was created as a result of Cheza's work and the opening of Paradise. That "new world" basically is supposed to, I believe resemble the world we are now currently in. In other words, you could say that the premise of opening Paradise is an "alternate/fantastical/fictional" take on how the world we are now currently in was created/developed. So yes, in regards to your remarks about the tainting of the flower, you could say that it's symbolic of showing that while this "new world" is in no way perfect of "paradise" in our logical understanding of the word, it is nonetheless new, better in certain respects, and worth protecting as opposed to what happened with the previous world that humans botched up. While this may seem like a farfetched speculation, I would tend to believe that in those final scenes we are seeing the "reborn" versions of the wolves, only they are no longer wolves, but rather, they are full-fledged humans. That part there is just my theory, but hey, sometimes it's nice for things to have a degree of open interpretation to them :-) Let me know if any of this gave you some clarity or helped you out :-p
Well now that I think about it...
Yeah that sounds like it makes some sense. And besides, with the whole talk about wolves turning into humans and humans are just beings that forgot they were once wolves etc. maybe the symbol of "Paradise" if for the 2 to live together in peace. I think you've got something going with that whole "being fully human" thing. They didn't really seem wolfy... but hm goign back to the opening sequence there WERE wolves in it. Yeah maybe it is just a peaceful union between the 2 "species".
Yeah I was almost expecting "Paradise" to be like a wolfy heaven maybe but as the tainted eyeball shows, it ain't perfect.
One another thing I did notice, was that in the ending scene Blue, nor any of the humans were pictured. Blue did mention that "Paradise would turn her away since she's a half breed" and the humans... well, weren't wolves :/ Wonder if it was only the main 4 wolves that made it in :/ Kinda dissapointing though, if that were it since they too helped open up Paradise by helping out Cheza.
But Hige said paradise would turn him away too. I think they only showed the main wolves because they were the main characters. None of the others were really shown in the first scenes of the first episode... or where they... I can't remember!
Some very interesting speculations indeed. Like I said though, and in my opinion, that's the beauty of shows that offer some degree of interpretation. You can make things personal in a way unique to yourself based on how the story/characters affected you :-) Glad I could be of some help. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Because that was one of the first lines in the series and he was recalling what he'd said, sorta like a flashback.

This is the same post i made in another thread. But i forgot to white it out there. (Er. Grey it out. considering the color of the background XD)

SPOILERS

I seriously did not interpret the ending like that. Nobody in the group made it to the gate all the way, except darcia, who wasnt really in the group. And he metled and stuff. I saw it like this:

Darcia destroyed the gate to paradise, so the group was taken back to before they met to once again make the pilgrimage. Simple as that. I dont know, maybe im completely off...but...
